It worked. Dunno why, but hey. Both are SIM hacks, I guess. And yes, it has tower handoff issues. I suppose it depends on where you live. Where I live I might be covered by one tower for everywhere I happen to go in one day (the person did a test crossing Shanghai with the phone to see how bad tower handoff issues were- 5km trip was OK, cross-city wasn't).

Well on the pss, they decided to use same trick with iphone on the sharps.. that's why they work now. Of course the codes (imsi etc) inside the pss differ depending on application but I am sure they did the same with the p905i. They just adapted a pss/hyper to hold the FOMA imsi and voila.... Although, I am still holding out for an old-school unlock for the so905ics as it is Sony Ericsson platform; which one, I am not sure yet. |

Anyways, the 904sh is 2G Network GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 3G Network UMTS 2100 from GSM arena. the p905i does have GSM, but the website doesn't specifically state which frequency it uses |

I believe AU phones are totally not unlockable due to sim-free?? DoCoMo and SB use USIMs, and they will work in Europe and Asia if unlocked/roaming for both GSM (if applicable) and 3G/3.5G). 3G/3.5G on those phones will never work in North America. ![]() |

They figured they could have these devices with UMTS and GSM standard so their customers could travel the world with their phones. Something that even Docomo didn't quite master yet.
My wife has been on Vodafone's roaming only plan for about 5 years, since she first came to canada (lol they were giving out motorola v66 back then). The v66 was gsm only so it didn't work in Japan. Now she can use a device with GSM and 3G or better, HSDPA, in Canada and Japan. However the CS reps told her that if she uses her phone while in Japan, SB will move her into a domestic calling plan automatically and lose her grandfathered roaming only plan with is 300 yen per month + usage. It was amazing for her the day I unlocked her v66, then her v802se, then her 903, then her 804ss (I claimed all for myself except the motorola and samsung). Lucky for me, it means we can do a hardware upgrade every year and I can get a phone on the cheap. It also means I can do things like repro (although it comes back with my sim). |

I don't have a vodafone japan sim card either hmm.
However, the first one gave me the USIM-MEP error
and I realised it was for the iphone. I was cursing my luck with this sim workaround.
Finally I get to play with the 904sh after almost 2 years.
go figure. Props to PSS SIM and Sunny for their customer service.
