i have a BJII and the GPS chip worked with Garmin Mobile XT Sat Nav software and Live Search without any changes. the app on the Modaco site is a great addition...thanks for the link! is there any harm in installing this anyway?

wel this cab file worked a treat! Even my previous reg hack from that site did allow me to actually use the GPS chipset! now it works perfectly in my AT&T Q9h on Rogers network.

Wirelessly posted (MOT-Q9/01.04.35R Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; Smartphone; 320x240) Opera 8.65 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

I've tried both COM1 and COM4 but whenever I activate the GPS, it doesnt shut off when I exit the program thats using it which drains the battery fast.

Has this been figured out yet? I don't want to end up loading Google Maps and TomTom just to find that they kill the battery even after I finish with them.

For the Q9h It's Com1 or Com3...not Com4. (Com4 is for the BJ2)
I recommend either. The GPS shuts off when you EXIT the app using it.

If the GPS is already working for my Q9h, are there any other benefits to having this tool?

GPS on the Q9h works right out of the box for Google Maps and Windows Live, but it will not work with any other GPS mapping software. Also, if you're Q9h is taking forever to get a fix, i would recommend having this tool. With this tool you can use software called GPSTest to Jumpstart your receiver and it does give you faster fixes in my experience

I could not get google maps to work with this hack on my BJII, so I bought the Garmin Mobile XT software and it works like a charm.
