This might be a noob question, I plan on purchasing a 6500 slide soon. If the phone comes with a north american firmware, am I able to flash it with an asia-pacific firmware so that I can view Chinese characters in the menus and in SMS?
Thanks in advance.

^ Hi, welcome to HoFo! I've modified your thread title to reflect more CLEAR about your subject and moved to the modding subforum.

No, if you've got the firmware loaded with the language pack doesn't support Chinese language, then you won't able to read/write w/ Chinese. I'm not sure if 6500s is available thru Nokia USA or Nokia Canada because if they've got it, there'll be firmware versions for NA (North American) and LTA (Latin American) markets. Thus, in that case, the language pack will comes w/ US English, Spanish, Canadian French and/or Portuguese. You can, however, flash it w/ the APAC versions firmware that includes the Chinese language packs like the "Q" w/ English, Traditional Chinese, stroke input method for Hong Kong, "S" w/ English, Malay, Simplified Chinese for Singapore/Malaysian markets.

But the simplest way is to buy a APAC version 6500s, even the keypad has the Chinese strokes or symbols printed on them.

Check w/ our sponsors for either simply buy the APAC version 6500s or flashing service to change the language pack in the Marketplace section: http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=63

You can also flash it yourself...Google "Nemisis , NSS". It does not always work though. As the above poster said, save yourself the trouble and order a Chinese version online.
