This tutorial is not mine, it was made by pugsport over at se-nse.

You will need the following:

SIMLockPatchGen 2 (free from http://simox.5gbfree.com)
SETOOL2LITE (v1.10)
XS++ (v3.1)

SIMLockPatchGen 2

First of all you need to create the unlock patch

Load up the software and then select the MAIN firmware you wish to make the unlock patch from (I presume that this can be any but I chose the K800_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_WI_RED52.mbn), it should auto detect which phone it is for and the firmware version.

Click on Make Patch and it should create a VKP file (this is located in VKP directory inside the directory SIMLockPatchGen 2 is installed to).

Ok, now time to move on.

SETOOL2LITE

Load up the software and change the Phone Type to K800.

In the big box on the right (Files area), click on Add and select the MAIN file and then do the same again and select the FS file (make sure this corresponds to the MAIN file you created the patch from in the previous step - NOT A DIFFERENT FIRMWARE FILE).

Now, in the MISC files area, browse to the VKP file that was created before ...

Now click on the FLASH button

Connect the phone as per usual by taking out the SIM card, then the battery. Re-insert the battery and whilst holding down C button on the phone, connect it to the USB cable (other side of it should already be plugged into your computer).

Flashing will begin. After a while, it will ask you to remove the cable, remove the battery, re-insert battery, click READY and then re-connect it to the USB cable whilst holding down the C button.

Again, after another while, it will ask you about the script file, just click on the NO button to apply.

After a couple of minutes, it will be completed and you can disconnect the phone from the USB cable.

XS++

Load up the software and click Connect.

Remove the battery, re-insert battery, and then connect it to the USB cable whilst holding down the C button.

Ignore Flash File System and Main Firmware.

Instead, click on the third box (Customize File System)

Select phone model to K800

Then select CDA and Region (you can look on the left hand side and see what CDA you already have), just check in the drop down list and find the one that matches. Even if not then find the one that is closest (didn't do mine any harm).

When Ready, click Flash.

After a minute or so, once complete, disconnect USB cable remove battery from phone, insert ANY SIM CARD from ANY PROVIDER, re-insert battery and switch on ... hey presto, you are unlocked!!!

I hope this helps people as I am so impressed I figured it out, took me a while like I say ... Also, don't flame me for this or be nasty, I am genuinely trying to help people do all of this that certain companies charge a fortune for for free!!!

hi.. kindly update your tutorial,

in SEtools Lite, before flashing my K800i you didnt specify checking the "Bypass db2020 security" i tried flashing it without checking it and it had error in the end.

i tried checking the box and it now works.

I don't have the "Edit" option anymore, but I never had to check bypass db2020?

before unlocking, my F/W is "R1KG001" i used the R8BA024 firmware when i flashed in setools

when i didnt check the bypass i had tthis error:
"Block @ $44740000 read error. have only: 00000000 bytes"

then searched for it and saw a german forum. i didnt know what they are saying but they are referring to setools and they mentioned the word "Bypass" so i assume thats the bypass db2020. so when i did again your tutorial, i checked the "bypass db2020 security" and works. i didnt see the error anymore so i went ahead to xs++.. =)

the topic is for k810 but it works for me.

You must use bypass security. for some reason it worked with him, but it's a must.

hmm maybe unchecking, will work on k790a only? b/c his phone is k790a

well at least it works. this should be stickied

now the only thing bothers me is having to do this all over again when upgrading firmware..

but that doesnt matter. at least it works..

btw, what's gdfs? i didnt backup mine.. what will happen? my phone seems ok..

if you want to backup your phone (files contacts, etc) you can use "MyPhone Explorer"

i'm still a little fuzzy on it myself, after using so many ericssons and SE's... i know it holds some settings + more, and they always say back up gdfs when doing stuff.. (i haven't really as i'm pretty good when it comes to SE's lol j/k)... but for this i did back up the gdfs first

I'm pretty new at this type of stuff and I am wondering if my phone has to be on a certain firmware or can it be on any firmware to do this? I have a Rogers locked K790a and I think my firmware version is R1JC002. Please let me know of any precautions. Does this also unbrand my phone?

No. This does not debrand the phone. If you wanted to debrand it download the firmware you want, make sure you get the MAIN and FS files and that they both match up.

i.e. K790_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_EV_RED52.mbn AND K790_R6BC002_FS_AMERICA_2_RED52.fbn

1. Then open up XS++.
2. Take out your sim, and memory stick.
3. Put battery back in, hold C, press connect on XS++
4. It will then bring you to the Flash tab in XS++
5. Browse for your MAIN and FS files, add them in accordingly.
6. Click on the customize box and select your CDA.
7. Press FLASH (this can take up to 15 minutes to complete).
8. Once finish power up your phone and it's unbranded.

Let me know how it works out for you.

SIM Lock

Your network lock should be 5 and the little locked should be unlocked.

IT WORKED ON K790a !!!!

I followed the tutorial all the way through and it worked. The phone has been locked to Rogers. I have used this firmware and tutorial above.

File System

K790 R1JC002 FS RUSSIA RED52

In the menu now the phone model is displayed as K790i - because firmware is native to K790i (European model). According to my research prior flashing the phone, there is no North American version of the firmware for k790a that has Russian language embedded. You have to use K790i firmware.

Important: The 850MHz frequency still works - it has NOT been jeopardized by using K790i firmware. I always get 4-5 bars of the reception. So it works fine.

CDA i think is like the "language file".. if you choose your region, it will flash the languages for your region..

are you in CID 52? you should be on cid 52 before trying this one.what's your current firmware? just update with SEUS then try again the tutorial

Thanks for above , i was trying to de brand and remove sim lock..( K800i ) , got the de branding sorted with XS, then used simlockpatchgen , then used SE.

After SE , phone would not start.

Thanks to all , i flashed the main a few times , and phone started again.

Now , it is de branded , but still sim lock to bloody vofondae ...

Not sure if i should try and remove sim lock again , was a hairy few hours with a brick...lol

I got this phone today (locked to Vodafone UK)
I'm trying to follow the instructions but have been unsuccessful so far.
The first step of download the various applications has been completed.

Next, I'm snstructed to "select the MAIN firmware you wish to make the unlock patch from".

I've done that and got it.
I've loaded the 3 files into the application.
Clicked on flash, taken out and re-inserted my battery and connected the USB cable to the computer.
When I hold down C and connect the cable to the phone, nothig is happening.

For DB2020 phones you cannot apply the unlock pacth to CID51 Firmwares. You will need CID52.

Currently I'm running CID51, but I'm guessing that when I patch the firmware I download, I'm going to basically be flashing my phone to CID52

I usually just flash by wotan, so i'm not familiar with this stuff.

Hi, I was just trying the steps, and I am stuck at using the XS++, when I am selecting the model and region/CDA, I can't find W580 in the model, and I browse through other models, none of them has Taiwan as region.

K800 is 3G, K790 is tri-band, i = 900/1800/1900, a = 850/1800/1900

exactly. choose the cda and your done, there is no taiwan cda either, you might need to find a custom pack or add the language after you finish the unlock and flashing.

Some ppl have said custpack is like the langauges and stuff, but i'd think that would be either the main or FS (file system), I'm trying to do as much research as possible before I get this show on the road.

I spent $10 to unbrand to chinese-trad firmware with wotan, so I don't want to lose that. Also I want better camera drivers/nicer looking walkman/acoustic drivers so I'd like to understand this stuff

I've managed to unlock my W580i. It was quite simple after reading up a bit.

Note to others: When at the vkp step with SETool, its better to load a qa patch (patcher included with setool) first instead of the unlock vkp.

Reason being you can then use the quick patch feature in SE Lite for the unlock along with any other patches you may want to apply in the future.

I added the radio with headset patch. Finally! Only crappy part is without the headset the antenna is good for nothing indoors, it only works outdoors.

can someone please help me to do the unlocking. I have a w580i with Rogers in Canada. I need to know what files to use and where to get them and also how to do it in the setool program. thanks

I am with ROGERS in Canada as well. I followed the instructions outlined in the first post and it worked for me. A few points:

1) backup your gdfs using setool (for safe keeping in case something goes wrong)
2) check the bypass DB2020 security option in setool
3) Only ADD the MAIN file in the section. That way you will retain all the other ROGERS settings (since this is not a tutorial about debranding) - I used W580_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52. Search online for it and you will find it.
4) Get the USB Flash Driver from http://wotanserver.com as mentioned by wpg204 otherwise the setool will keep cycling through the progress bar without recognizing the phone.

I just unlocked my k790a using (SIMLockPatchGen, to create the .vkp), then Setool using in MAIN " K790_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_EV_RED52.mbn " y and then with XS++.

Everything went great, I can use any SIM card and it works close to perfection, the thing is that the LCD and illumination on my cellphone is acting really strange now the lights are not working as usual. When I put the phone to Sleep, or when it does it automatically the lights go off as usual, the thing is that when I try to wake it up, they dont turn right, they key lights dont turn on at all, and the LCD screen is really dark.

When i go to( >*<<*<* ) and then " Service Tests -> LCD/illumination " to check what happens, instead of doing what it normally did (fading on and off the lights of the whole cellphone) now they simply go off and dont go back on, making hard to see what its on the screen.

If I go to Menu - Settings - Screen - Brightness .. and I move the bars up or down ... inmediatly they lights of the whole cellphone turn on normally, but when it goes to sleep, it does it again!

Any help!!! Plz!!!!!!

Should I flash it again, using another .mbn ???

Well, there's a patch also that modifies the brightness menu. You can try it.

But, that MAIN you used is the one you have? Must be the same.
If nothing works, try to flash it and do the patch. Try another MAIN also.

Thats the MAIN I used" K790_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_EV_RED52.mbn ". I had another one on my cell phone it was something like R1031 or something like that.

Any more suggestions? Which is the last MAIN update for k790a???

Let's be clear.
You have a version in your phone. The MAIN you use for the patch must match the one you have. If not, patch won't work.

I'm noticing this too, can I pick a similarly numbered phone and have it work still or what are people who have a w580i choosing in order to get the final step working?

edit: Just wanted to give a heads up on what I did to unlock my w580i, by looking at the CDA I saw that the w850 settings with APAC had the same CDA number and flashed it with that. Unplugged the usb cable, took out the battery and then re-instered it with a vodaphone sim I used last time I was in London and it booted up just fine.

So if you have a w580 and get confused at not seeing the option in XS++ use the w850 as your phone and just make sure the CDA numbers match up and you should be good.

I have a k790a .. It was CID 49 MAIN R1CC003, and now is CID 52 and I used the MAIN R6BC002 and the patch works awesome! .. The only thing is that MY lcd is acting really strange, (lights dont turn on automatically when incoming calls) and stuff like that .. is it `cuz the main i used ??

is it possible to unlock and debrand a k850i this way?

i unlocked my wifes k800i no problems, but the firmware for the k850 is different, it ends in "K850i_R1CA037_MAIN_GENERIC_SO_CID52.min", where as the k800i firmware ends in .mbn, the unlock patcher firmware says its a bad firmware, any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

well i started having problems a couple days ago with the screen going white for a few seconds. but then today bam goes white non stop. i try taking battery out and restarting sitll nothing

hey i have a k790i that i bought unlocked from ebay. recently it has been freezing alot. about 10 times a day. also it would randomly vibrate and blink
i have firmware R1CB001. my phone happens to be a prototype. i need a firmware upgrade. i found a site called GSM libberty that has k790 firmware i called and they said to buy the k790 firmware. so i bought a k790 firmware upgrade off gsmliberty.com (http://www.gsmliberty.net/shop/sony...de-p-1305.html). yeah the data cable wont work so i bought the cruiser cable. (http://www.gsmliberty.net/shop/sony...35.html)because the guy on the phone said it the DCU-60 wouldn't work and i realized that after when i did everything to start the flashing it didn't work. and the firmware im going to upgrade to is dated 5-30-07 R1kg001_red 52. there are other firmwares there but there earlier dates. im not sure if you want me to tell you those firmware upgrades but if you want i can and you can tell me what one to flash to. im waiting for the cruiser cable to come than im going to flash it.

nm, I found a thread that has the latest firmware, fs, and custpack.

My phone is W580i

Following OP but pay attention to these

1. remember to check the 'bypass DB2020 security' in setool
2. The firmware I used are
main: W580_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52.mbn
File system: W580_R8BA024_FS_C_ASIA_RED52.fbn
3. I can't find a match of CDA for my phone in the list on XS++
Here's how to use a customize pack file
The file I choose is: W580_CDA102568_7_R8A_GENERIC_C_ASIA.zip
Unzip it to a folder, you will see a folder named 'tpa'
create a folder in the root of XS++ named 'own_custpack'
copy the 'tpa' folder into the 'own_custpack' folder
Follow the guide. But in XS++ choose the last option on the list to use this customized pack.

I unlocked my phone successfully.

I used W850 when in XS++ And chose the CDA and REGION matching that.

The phone still works so I am pleased with the outcome so far.

ANY ADVICE ON THIS THOUGH?

I used these downloads for debranding my phone. I also used the unlock patch afterwards.

When i put in a new sim for lets say Orange or Vodafone it says it is going to download what I think is the settings for WAP and MMS Should I let it do this or do I cancel? I have been cancelling thinking it might lock the phone again.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Alright, so I've run into a problem. The ****** thing is that I have actually got this to work on this exact phone previously, it's a w580i. The problem is that the screen went, so I had to send it to Sony and they replaced the screen. Well I've got the phone back and now when I attempt to second step in the SeTool2Lite, I get this error:

I have a quick question for unlocking my SE W580i. I have been past the debranding portion and now when i go to unlock with XS++, i have three options after checking the customize file box. Below i have BreakXS, FastXS, and BruteXS, what should i check? All combinations i can do at the moment comes with an error msg. Am i not correct that i should be choosing the W850 phone seeing as though my phone is not listed?

On a side note, if i have already unlocked it, what would happen if i don't customize? I can't seem to get XS++ to work. I can not just bypass those three options, the program will not let me choose the CDA and region with out selection one.

I must say good job!

I'm a first timer, but after weeks of reading and memorizing the steps to flashing (read countless tutorials and guides on hofo, se-ense, topsony, etc)

I flashed my Rogers branded to generic firmware! AND used the Autopatcher with setools and now I have sucessfully debranded and unlocked my phone.

Well it says it is unlocked through the settings, havent actually tried with a foreign sim card yet.

To all of you who have problems, DONT RUSH THINGS, go over all the steps carefully, DONT PANIC.

For both the flashing and patching process I read multiple tutorials because as great as ONE tutorial is sometimes the author misses out on something, so try and cross reference the steps with a tutorial by another author.

Remember each step is important, I know it maybe annoying such as taking out the battery,sim,memory card etc each time, but it is neccessary!

Backup files, have programs neatly saved and installed onto a folder you will remember. have all the cables etc ready.

Believe me, this was my first time in doing anything technical with a phone, I was intimidated.

If for any reason that it is not working for you, that means you are missing out on a step, or you are not using the right phone. Unless by some random occurence your existing stuff is glitched/corrupted.

I have an unlocked w580 that's branded to AT&T. My question is, if this phone is unlocked and I can use my tmobile sim 2 make calls and send text, is setting up email and picture messaging as simple as changing the settings in the respective areas of the phone or do i need to debrand the phone? Also, will debranding the phone allow mp3 ringtones? is there a file format that you can use as ringtones without DRMing anything? ie my flashed d820 from t809, takes mp3 ringtone by default but when it was a t809 i had to change the extention to .3gp and then i could use them.

Also, will I beable to use Opera Mini on this phone without debranding it? and do you use the usb cable that comes with the phone to debrand & flash it?

Hey man, idk about Mac, but i used a PC to Debrand.
I used This~~> W580i Flashing / Debranding Tutorial to debrand my w580i from AT&T.

I used This ~~> GDFS Backup Turorial to back up the GDFS files.

Everything worked great!

it took less than 10minutes to debrand the phone. I'm gonna test out the internet settings w/ tzones, and install opera mini onthere when I get a chance.

I think I should mention that my phone was already unlocked, idk if that makes a difference. also, i used the driver installation program that download with the files for the first tutorial i listed above. but followed the 2nd tuts directions for backing up the GDFS.

So far i've noticed that the ATT logo is gone and the walkman animations replace everything att had on the phone when it was branded. I've set mp3's from my M2 card as both ringtones and message tones, where previously I could only set the message alert to mp3.

I'll be trickin the phone out with flash menus and loading some of the themes I've downloaded onto the phone. I'll update accordingly.

So my nephew wants his W200i unlocking. As you can see below it is listed without the 'i' - Is this the same? and Does this mean I can use the patch regardless of phone model as long as it is one of these CID's???

Help please,
I follow the tutorial successfully up until after flashing remove battery and reconnect but the READY button in Seatool2lt is not higlight. I cant go further, any ideas?

Load up the software and change the Phone Type to K800.

In the big box on the right (Files area), click on Add and select the MAIN file and then do the same again and select the FS file (make sure this corresponds to the MAIN file you created the patch from in the previous step - NOT A DIFFERENT FIRMWARE FILE).

Now, in the MISC files area, browse to the VKP file that was created before ...

Now click on the FLASH button

Connect the phone as per usual by taking out the SIM card, then the battery. Re-insert the battery and whilst holding down C button on the phone, connect it to the USB cable (other side of it should already be plugged into your computer).

Flashing will begin. After a while, it will ask you to remove the cable, remove the battery, re-insert battery, click READY and then re-connect it to the USB cable whilst holding down the C button.
Again, after another while, it will ask you about the script file, just click on the NO button to apply.

After a couple of minutes, it will be completed and you can disconnect the phone from the USB cable.

What CID you are?
Go to SE site, Downloads and pick the Service Update (SEUS) tool to have flash drives in your PC.
Then, get SETool Lt, click on Identify, connect your phone and should give you the read where is your CID.

4shared.com is a good place to start to look files. Also, Topsony.com can give you a guide what files to choose.

Sometimes happens. SETool should go back to normality after a while. (Ready button is not available just in sight, because the program has done its activity or work)

I did this slightly different, but you could try upgrading SETool from 1.10 to 1.11.
Also, try XS++ as it mention this tuto.

If you continue encountered problems, PM and we can try a few steps.

1) Will the unlocking procedure outlined on the first page work for CID53?

2) If I screw up something during the unlocking process, how can I restore backups?

Hi deadman,

My phone is a W580i and I selected W850. See post 134 on page 9 (a few pages back)

And it all works perfectly...debranded and unlocked...Great!

I did have a query as I was testing other sims, that is asks for something like downloading/updating and I kept putting NO but I believe I could have said yes BUT be careful here it may change the CID???

but be careful if you say yes as it may now change the CID from 52 to 53 which you DO NOT want as this will not work at all.

Good luck and take your time. Oh and it took me just over an hour to complete - just to give you some kind of measurement of length of time I took.

Hi guys,

I used your tutorial and I have no problem unlocking W300i and W580.

I am now trying to unlock Z520a, but it is not doing anything after I click Flash on SEtools... It would read it but it's not doing anything to it. Am I doing something wrong? CID is 36 for Z520a.

Please help.

I'm trying to get my z520a unlocked as well. It doesn't look like setool supports that model. Any idea how to get the .vkp patch file onto the phone?

with setool and xs++, when you download and open the program(s) it will have a drop-down menu or tab that shows the available phones.

The dcu-60 is all you need...

where'd you put the .vkp file? I don't see the proper connection options in the sefp plugin in far manager. It only gives me the k600 and z800 cid36 options. It doesn't show any files in the 'flash' and 'fs' folders when I connect...

I accidentally used the W580 files on a W850. That was the problem.
I've now used the W850 files and the phone is no longer flashing.
However, I've been on a "Please wait" screen for about 15 minutes after starting the phone.

Hey guys im trying to unlock my w810i but i keep getting suck at this one point. In Setool2 like Whem i'm flashing the main and the patch. The main goes in fine but i never get a message about the patch. after the main goes in I see loader GDFS startup: executed

And this is the end. My phone will works on ATT but it is not unlocked.

I've heard reports about W850 tryig to convert to other model. Exactly, a problem that appears is no signal.
You only option is to flash W850 files. (FS, MAIN and custom)
If this is not resolved, go to warranty. You won't be able to recover it.
