Hi,
I have SE z550a that is currently locked to Fido
Platform: DB2010

OTP CID: 51
EROM CID: 51
EROM Color: Red
Phone ID: Z550
Region: AMERICA_1
CDA: CDA102460/101 R2A
Firmware Version: R6GA004

I tried the method described in this thread to unlock it but it did not work.
Did anyone succeed in unlocking this type of the phone.

Any suggestion is appreciated.

I have run into a problem guys. I used this tutorial to unlock a ATT branded W580i and it worked perfectly. I was able to use my Tmobile sim, tzones, text, the works. The problem came when I used this tutorial http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1267845 to DE-Brand the phone. Now the phone is telling me that I have the "incorrect sim". It is now relocked back to ATT. I tried using this tutorial again to unlock it, but it didn't work. I would really apreciate some help with this guys. Thanks.

EDIT: When I tried using this tutorial again to unlock, the only thing different that happened was I wasn't asked to unplug then re-plug my phone back in.

i dont kno what it is but im using vista home....and the usb flash driver wont install the way in which stated......i take battery/sim out...replace batter hold c .......im runnin the setoolt(with update)......the green bar is goign across the bottom but nuttin is really happening...idk whats goin on.....i even uninstalled the sony drivers i had and still no luck please please please help me i need to unlock this phone since rogers is beign retarded with theri ringtones email me at b_ingram@hotmail.com or post here

I have tried this countless times with the "quick_access" and just as the instructions above. The phone is I have is K790a but for some reason I must have the only edition in the world doesn't unlock, just like everything else I own its the only version of the product that nothing works on. Anyways it just ends up killing my firmware and I have to re-load it again. I tried everything even using the same firmware as mentioned. Following the instructions I got the "Differs" warning and continued and it finished. When I plugged the phone into XS++ then did the CDA refresh then it gets stuck at "Activating GDFS" . Software firmware/mbn+fbn:

Hack doesn't work on "special" K790a phones. As well these "special" phones don't work with the R8BA024 firmware. You get a "No Network Coverage" warning, chaning the system from 3G/GSM to GSM only will freeze your phone. Fortunately after you remove the battery and replace it and restart the phone again GSM is selected. Plug the handset into the wall to charge you get "Alien Battery" message. It does charge though.

Its a good phone but no unlock. I don't know if I want to fork over the money to have someone unlock it for me cause they'll use the same firmware and patch as above to do it. Lots of people who have posted issues with unlocks is their phone saying its a K800 and having the above issues. If I cannot get it to work then oh well. I still have my unlocked RAZR so I can use that one overseas.

But for those who do want to try it out and I think you should cause you have a good chance is not to forget the following:

BACK UP YOUR GDFS BEFORE YOU BEGIN OR ELSE YOUR SCREWED IF YOU PHONE GOES DEAD (WHITE SCREEN FLASH AND OFF AGAIN) OF DOESN'T POWER UP (AFTER PATCHING WITH QUICK_ACCESS OR UNLOCK)!!!!

My original GDFS back up has brought my phone back all the time. For some reason flashing the phone with R1JC002 requires me to restore my GDFS or else it wont boot past the first screen. You'll get a "Please Wait" with a progress bar but after the phone reboots again you cannot turn it on.

I was able to unlock an ATT W580i before, but I've been trying on another one and for some reason I can't apply the patch. When it ask to "Apply the patch, press No", I press No, and then I get another question box "Some value are not the same, click Yes to continue"...clicking yes or no, results the phone to be dead and unable to turn on and then I would have to reflash to revive the phone. Anyone else have this problem?

Thats the same issue that I have. I've read somewhere that some phones might require you to edit some stuff. But it should be pretty straight through. Its because that those values differ its the reason that the phone firmware gets all screwed and you have to either re-install the working firmware or restore to the GDFS.

I installed the custompack that has the Spanish language but still only english shows up.

Which firmwares should I use for everything to be in Spanish?

I have debranded and flashed the phone and trying to unlock it, but it doesn't seem to work. Ill try later tonight.

Try it again using XS++ but don't check anything just make sure the phone is K790 and using the bottom options change the CDA and see the left hand window and it should tell you some languages, it will look like something like this: en,cf,d,es "es" is spanish.

Then the fbn file you used doesn't support spanish. You see my fbn file has only english french and spanish for phone language. But it can write in portugese, spanish and english, but no french which is a phone language on the phone. Try this firmware:

R1JG001 and use CDA xxxx/302

Yes I pretty much do, I use a K790a which is pretty much a K800 sans the 3G. And yes you can use any 900/1900Mhz supporting GSM phone with Rogers Wireless. As for the 3G you can download using the 3G radio, but I think you need to subscribe for that.

iknow its a tri nand phone but i called up rogers and techinal support said if i unlock the phone n put the rogers sim in it i might not be able to use some features.i just remembered i unlocked my old phone brought from europe and the internet didnt work on it but i didnt pay much attention to that back then...
if i cant use all the feautures on the phone im not getting it:S

Yes Rogers features like the music player that's the same one that you have but isn't Rogers branded, and their links which you can find online and setup yourself. The 3G service will work if your phone is capable. Its your call though. I've flashed mine to generic with nothing Rogers and its also unlocked and everything works. Just like it used to. But if you don't believe me (Rogers customer since 1999) then you can purchse the equivalent to your phone which is the K790a for $129.99 on a 3 year contract. Then you can see it working exactly as yours would have.

A few noobie questions:
1) does this work with all SE w580i's, more specifically, the North American version?
2) will older versions of each of those programs listed (i.e. XS++) work?
3) if not, are there free versions of each available? i keep running into torrent sites that ask me to pay a membership fee
4) is there another link for simlockpatchgen2? because that link is dead as far as i can tell
5) is there any way AT&T (or their corporate stores scattered about) will unlock my SE w580i for me, or will they just look at me like im retarded for buying their phone and then wanting it unlocked so i can use another provider

overall im just looking to find the easiest, most effective way to allow my phone to accept the simcard of another provider.
i've looked up trying to 'unlock' a phone but i find things from debranding, to using an imei number (which won't work for me anyway since my phone's at&t simcard was deactivated). there are a lot of terms im just not getting.

I'd try the link in 5) first.. AT&T might give you the code pretty quickly. I got the unlock code from them for a w300i a while back. I didn't even buy it from them (but it was att locked).

i would do the thing in "5)" but my sim card's been deactivated, the real story is that my parents went with t-mobile since they have a friend who hooked them up with a better deal, so i can't call to have my phone unlocked since i can't connect to anything with my SE. Going to the corporate store down the street won't work either since my phone says "inactive smartchip" across the top of the screen.

K800 works in the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. If the telephone is unlocked then there shouldn't be an issue. The reason the internet didn't work for the guy who asked this question is because you didn't have the links setup. Every network operator has a specific web address that you need to set up in the "Data Communications" of the phone. When these settings are setup then the phone will work with the operators connection. For example mine are setup for Rogers AT&T. The original SE Links don't really work unless you configure an internet connection profile.

The inactive smart chip means that your sim card is no longer active. I have one that I use for my stored phone numbers. It just means that you need to get a working sim card. If you telephone has a "5" its nothing. As long as the icon that the "5" is beside (little lock) is unlocked then you can fit a Pay_as_you_Go card or any other WORKING sim card (smartchip) in it.

For DB2020 phones all you really need is the SEtool+Simlock software thats it. No need to do the quick patch trick, its just a waste of time. All you do is make your patch using Simlock software, and then with that .vkp file you use your phone firmware main file (.mbn) and flash your phone using SEtool making sure you check the box that says bypass DB2020 security.

You can use a pay as you go card with the carrier you got the phone from. To unlock it if its locked thats another thing.

To check phone status try this: >*<<*<* Then navigate to Service Info and you should Simlock and see if your network has an unlocked lock icon. Something like the first post from WPG204 who posted his pictures after unlocking a K790 phone.

well im probably mixing up terminologies. i mean use a pay-as-you-go simcard and then having them debrand it semi-legitimately so i can "go on vacation to another country," as it were and use another carrier's simcard.

i just want to be able to use a t-mobile simcard on my SE, since i prefer the SE i bought as opposed the the samsung my parents got me with the new plan they decided for us

Ok i need some help, when i get to the XS++ part

Load up the software and click Connect.

Remove the battery, re-insert battery, and then connect it to the USB cable whilst holding down the C button.

Ignore Flash File System and Main Firmware.

Instead, click on the third box (Customize File System)

Select phone model to K800

But i can't find my phone model W580i, how do you guys do it with your w580i?

i'm using 'W580_R8BE001_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52.mbn' with the .VKP file that i made with QAMAKER (within setools) i have both BYPASS & USE QUICKPATCH checked

MAIN is in the main window (largest) and VKP file is in the MISC

can anyone tell me what im doing wron? I took the SIM out, replaced battery, plugged USB cable into PC, pressed 'FLASH' on setools, held down C and clicked in USB cable ...am i doing something wrong??

im not certain but u have a CID53 and so did i. i guess the best thing to do now is to buy the unlock code from ebay. plus, u might wanna edit ur post to delete the IMEI. not sure how safe is it to let everyone know it.

CID53 is your problem. that guide will only work with cid52 phones and there is no way to downgrade the CID.

it will need a csca unlock now which costs. take it to an independant shop and see if thay can unlock it for you

i just tried this with my 580i and got to the

Flashing will begin. After a while, it will ask you to remove the cable, remove the battery, re-insert battery, click READY and then re-connect it to the USB cable whilst holding down the C button.

did that...but it wouldnt pick up the phone...so i had to push stop

now the phone wont even turn on????

You have to wait when you do that, your phone didn't execute the patch so now its sort of bricked with wet cement. You need to re-run the firmware loading again to make it work. Then do everything you just did execpt disconnect the phone because you don't think its recognized. You need to read and it will tell you to wait, just let it do its thing cause this process requires the phone to execute the patch, and then re-firmware you main phone firmware file.

edit: Just wanted to give a heads up on what I did to unlock my w580i, by looking at the CDA I saw that the w850 settings with APAC had the same CDA number and flashed it with that. Unplugged the usb cable, took out the battery and then re-instered it with a vodaphone sim I used last time I was in London and it booted up just fine.

So if you have a w580 and get confused at not seeing the option in XS++ use the w850 as your phone and just make sure the CDA numbers match up and you should be good.

I'm greedy and sure wished you could un-brand and unlock at the same time. There is probably a way, but I'm no hacker.

All is well, I missed the post about not doing the file system (FS) if you don't want to lose anything, had to reload all my themes and stuff.
To confirm for others, if you do this tut without the FS, does the unlock still work?
Hey, as obvious as it seems to others, don't forget where the power button on the w580i is. I was flashing to unbrand a new w580i (never seen one before) and didn't even know they had a power button . After the flash, nothing happened when I put the battery back in. I figured I was doing the flashes wrong (I kept holding the 'c' button for it to power up). For hours I'm flashing and reflashing the darn thing until the 'duh' light

went on and I pressed the power button on the back shell. I'm posting this tidbit of info to provide some comic relief for others.

So, I'm all hooked up, thanks to the OP and all the posts with bits of help!!!

I cant figure out what FS and MAIN files to use to unlock a k790. The tutorial shows the person using R8BA024 which is a k800i FW.

The process is 100% but nobody said you could not use nothing less than
setools v1.11..... After 6 1/2 hours I figured out that you cannot use anything less than setool lte 1.11!!!

My W580i Was All Unlocked Except The NETWORK!@!@! After Using SeT 1.11 and followed all steps, remembering to click bypass db2020.. then xs++ using the "Own_Custpack" method it unlocked and worked great... I am impressed with Se... I cannot believe how many times I flashed this phone without bricking it... if it was a nokia, it would be DONE!

It ******ed me all up!!! everything worked great no errors, un-branded - beautiful but the freakin network was still locked, even the flash packs came pre packed with ver 1.08... NO GO! D/l 1.11 and bam works great.....

And, when I got the phone back, they locked my phone again. I tried all the steps I did for before and now I can't unlock it anymore, does anyone of you know why?

when I unlocked it the very first time.. it said "Pink" not red. I guess SE people caught me in unlocking the phone? not sure... it's jsut weird that I was only sending my phone back to SE to change to a new keypad but why would they need to lock my phone back ><

Doesn't work with K850. Thats a whole different platform.

I've used the K790_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_EV_RED52.mbn file and K790_R6BC002_FS_AMERICA_2_RED52.fbn along with 06_Gen_CDA102568_107_R5A_GENERIC_AMERICA_2, flashed it with setool2lt, and it removes Rogers but the network remains locked. Any pointers?

I've used the K790_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_EV_RED52.mbn file and K790_R6BC002_FS_AMERICA_2_RED52.fbn along with 06_Gen_CDA102568_107_R5A_GENERIC_AMERICA_2, flashed it with setool2lt, and it removes Rogers but the network remains locked. Any pointers?

Are you absolutely sure you didn't miss this step:
Now, in the MISC files area, browse to the VKP file that was created before ...

Try doing the operation all over again, following each step. Print it out and put a check mark on each step as you go through it.

If you followed the steps then don't worry about the SIM lock, it's a funny behavior it appears locked then unlocked.

I dont understand on my phone it says "insert correct sim card" what can i do?

this is pimp,in the end it took me 1 day to finish unlocking my w580i.this is due to me not getting setools1.1,instead i got 1.08,which didnt work.once i finally got baked i realized where i ent wrong,after that it was bout 11 minutes all together.
just follow directions and you will not encounter any worries,

I abit confuse..so if i try on my W580i...then i need the mbn file for W580i something like this one K800_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_WI_RED52.mbn but W580i_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_WI_RED52.mbn right? and where can i find this file. and for this part of the guide..."Re-insert the battery and whilst holding down C button on the phone, connect it to the USB cable (other side of it should already be plugged into your computer)." so do i let go of the C button after computer detect the phone or keep holding it?...also where can i fing the FS file for W580i...thanks in advance

Fill out your profile, and state here what phone model/make/CID/Provider and re-read the first few pages of this thread, then read pages 16, 17, 18.

Hold the 'c' button down until the program finds your phone, you can then release the 'c' button. I personally leave the cable plugged into the phone, and use the usb end to insert and remove the cable, much easier.
