Does anyone have a tutorial on unlocking, flashing, and activating a sprint mogul to Alltel?

unlocking of CDMA phones is not like GSM phones. CDMA phones are required to have the number programmed into while at the same time the provider in this case Alltel assigning the imei to that number on their system. There is no sim card to pop in to use.

You would need Alltel to agree to allow the phone on their system.

Thanks, my local Alltel store has activated a verizon v3m flashed to alltel, so I don't think I'll have a problem with that. Can I flash the Sprint mogul to alltel's firmware by downloading the software from this link?

If so, is there anything else? Is the mogul pretty much the same phone as alltel's ppc6800? Just different firmware?

Also, do CDMA phones have IMEI numbers? I thought they had an ESN that alltel would have to add to there database. Sorry for my ignorance.

1)If they did it in the past, then they can supply you most likely supply you with the Subsidy lock code. Try reseting the lock code to 000000 then try OTA programming with verizon. If the OTA programming doesn't work, I'm sure VZW will help you manually program the phone.

2)Correct, CDMA devices use ESNs (electronic serial numbers) not IMEIs (International Mobile Equipment Identity). They're the same thing, a unique serial number for the phone (I've gotten my phone stolen, called VZW and they blacklist the ESN so no one else can ever activate it, those thieving bastards).

3) You should be alright installing the proper ROM, the hardware is usually the same on all CDMA versions of a phone. If you're gonna flash the phone, I'd try to find the HTC ROM though.

2) nothing to do here.

3) HTC ROM for Alltel PPC6800: I found the PDA Phone ROM UPdate Utility 3.16.4.2 from HTC website. Is this the HTC ROM you are talking about?

Anything else I need to be aware of? I've read about users having trouble with data service or other features.

1) vzw's lock code is 000000. i'm not sure about alltel's. Call them.
3) if you found the rom, then you should be fine.

No IMEI for CDMA phone!

I am trying to do the same (Switch a Sprint Mogul to Alltel). I have tried the store earlier today and they said they could only flash phones not PDA's. The tech tried to get me set up but couldn't get around having to manually program my mobile number into the phone. He said he needed sprint's manual override code? I have tried flashing the PPC 6800 alltel ROM to the mogul and it gave me a Vendor ID Error. Any suggestions?

Hello,
I just purchased a phone on ebay, it is a sprint ppc6800. It has sprint software on it and sprint says it has a bad esn. Is it possible to switch it to alltel?

yeah i need it too. how do you do it. I read some forums in a different site, they say that we need to delete some registry on the phone blah blah blah. .... and so on. I got the ROM from HTC site but havent tried it. Does anybody here has any clear directions to do this? If you have a Mogul i could give you ur MSL code. Just need the ESN.

after reading these forums for hours I was almost afraid to try it, once I got up the nerve to try it it was very simple.
within 30 minutes I was talking on the phone. everything works except edvo, same for everybody

From the edits that we have done, changing from Sprint to Alltel does work, but you lose some functionality. ie EVDO, some bluetooth devices, reception loss. Personally I don't think it's worth it. It's better to have the phone made for the service.

every time i try to put the alltel rom on my phone it gives me an error and then resets my phone to the sprint rom how to i set on the alltel rom? would i just unlock the phone with like the titan unlocker and then install the rom and then call alltel and have them put my ESN # in their systems?

Ive updated the boot loader and have ddc's 2.2.6 flashed rom for alltel - Im trying to transform it from sprint mogul to alltels cellular network! I'm running wm6.1 and when I try placing a call ... i get transfered to sprints activation but not alltel ? do i need to replace the prl . ? what am i missing and is there a wiki or instruction set for this ?

ive not changed the lock code over to 000000

i still however know the unlock code.... now would this cause my device not to pick up any radio alltel radio towers ? if its not set at 000000

ive used 2 differnt PRLs and each time my titan dosnt pick up ANY TOWERS!

Let me better explain my situation for you guys to point out any errors..

I purchased a mogul off craigslist. and I have followed these exact steps.

Bare in mind this is a STOCK, working with sprint towers mogul.

1. I installed a application to tell me my MSL? (the unlock code!, I have this code stored in a text doc.)

2. I installed the spl2.4 oli bootloader (ran the tool, worked great!)

3. I Installed the dcd 2.2.6 ROM for ALLTEL

4. I installed the 3.27 radio.

(before I did this last step, when I placed an outgoing call I was still hitting sprints towers!

5. I uploaded a PRL. used the ##775 and updated the PRL with entering my unlock code and then selecting the file.

(now my phone constantly searches for a cell signal...)

Now what would cause it not to pick up on anything since the update ? are there other settings I need to configure for alltel services (##778) ? Was it because I did not reset the lock code to 000000?.

Ive searched xda, ppc, and here! - any help will be appreciated and those that can point me in the right direction will be compensated!

I also live in Columbus, OH... not sure if that helps or anything, but Ive tried install a sprint PRL and it WORKS!.... strange... very strange.... must be settings that I need to convert over to alltel from sprint im not sure! ugh!

That is the PRL that you would need to use for our phone.
but also you would need to call alltel to have you put on the list to use a alltel tower and have them give you a
MDN
MSID
and SID/NID # its like 0/65400 or something like that. ( i read that a month ago cant remember what it needs to be set at.)

after all that then you should be able to get it to work
or try a verizon or even a sprint both r CDMA

but i am still yet to do all this cause i dont have the money so ya. sorry I cant be of more help all the people that know what they r doing just got the help and wont help others it seems. Im trying something over a SprintMogul.net but thats failing me.

i would call alltel and ask to talk to a tech.
Hope this gives you some ideas. if some1 finds out please tell you and allso the steps on how you went from a stock sprint phone to the working on alltel i wana make a post for all of the people that might be in our shoes right now.

that is correct you need to set a certain SID for you place. Its better to change your msl to 000000 that way you wont forget. use qpst.

Put your phone in Diag mode first then connect to PC and fire up QPST.

just call sprint and have them give u your MSL code.
then what i do it make a txt file of all my codes like MSL MDN MSID A-KEY and then all my reg. hacks for the mogul then call it like Mogul codes or something make a folder called mogul and have all my roms for the mogul and all my codes and even put the codes on the SD card cause the mogul can read txt files and thats a back up. I couldn't get QPST to work also so i just gave up. Sprint wont have a prob. giving u ur MSL they are very good about that.

to get your mogul to work with QPST,
1.find the ppc6700 drivers, try mobile-files.com
2.put yoour mogul in diag mode
3.open up qpst config and set up the right com port
4.do i need to explain any further????

ps. u know you can do all this in epst in your phone itself and if your not doing it in epst because you dont have your spc then forget about qpst because it will not read either if you have the incorrect spc, try GETspc program or if that doesnt work for you theres a registry edit you can do for your phone to show you your spc just ask me how

ps sprint will not give you your MSL or SPC if ur mogul has been blacklisted/bad esn

you need to make sure all your programming settings are for alltel...sid nid, your number all that stuff flashing the phone just makes it have that carriers software and extra crap on it...i recently flashed a 6700 from sprint to alltel and got it all working...u might try qpst to read programmig on phone and just fix whats needed or u can do most from programming menu as well as change to a alltel prl but prl alone wont make it quit calling sprint..hope ive helped i learned all this by experimentation and a lot of reading forums..

use getspc to get the spc lock code its found on the mobile files website usually run it from the phone..very easy
