Installing google maps on 770SH

"Google Maps will not install on your softbank generic"
Lame.
anyone able to get this working on a 770SH? (maybe 880SH will have more luck...)
or googlemail

I tried it, also got the same error (why Google is translating the 770SH's user agent into 'softbank generic' is beyond me). Tried it on the 880SH, it's also got the same error. However, it's preinstalled on the 880SH, so it isn't a problem there.
Anyway, I used my trusty User Agent Switcher in Firefox to trick Google into thinking my PC was a 903, allowing me to get the direct download URL for it. It's this:
http://www.google.com/gmm/gmm.jad?m...motion&source=m
Cumbersome to type in, however once you've done it the 770SH will correctly download the 903's version of the app.
Unfortunately, once you start it it screws up in the same way it does on my 903 - it's unable to get a connection with the internet working at all. Maybe you'll have better luck than me trying...
You can rest assured though it works on the 880SH without a hitch.

Just as I thought AL9999, thanks for the clarification.
No connection - how strange!
Even more excited to get the 880SH and can view it more as a iPhone replacement

Well I just did the same download to the 880SH, using the above URL I posted and overwriting the original preset version in the phone (which was 1.5.3) with 2.0.1. I'm glad to say that it still works fine in the 880SH, so there's nothing wrong with what we're downloading, it's just it doesn't get along well with the 770SH or 903. It's too bad... I might experiment with some other phones to get their direct download strings, hopefully that could jump start Google Maps on the 903

Can SX663 install Google MAPS as well outside HK? And does it have Flash Lite support?
Posted by: AL9999
I don't know, I don't have access to one to try. You can always try the above link and see if it works.
SX663 doesn't have Flash Lite support.

Why such a high tech company like sharp doesn't include flash lite in its phone, now hardly find a phone without flash lite installed. Can we install it via wap or update on the phone firmware?

How about the Taiwan set? Got flash lite?
Posted by: AL9999
I don't know why they didn't reinclude flash lite. They probably will on a future phone.
Anyway, no, the WX-T82 doesn't have it either.

googlemail http://googlemail.com/app/googlemai...mail=true&hl=en

Those two links will let you download Google Mail (for UK or Germany residents) or Gmail's Java apps for any Sharp 3G phone, in case Google isn't allowing you to access them.

I tried the google maps link and the gmail links on my 816SH both will not download to my phone.
Posted by: AL9999
That's likely because the 816SH won't accept unsigned applications, like every other unmodified (ie not unlocked) Softbank phone.
Is it actually reporting it can't find the link, or that it won't accept unsigned apps? Because the link works, even in a PC web browser.

Was just hoping for maps to work, I have been using dinglefinger....it's a good map system, it even has directions in english which is a huge bonus for me. Just google maps on my iTouch is so nice...

oops,,, I mean diddlefinger

Yeah fair enough. It's a bit hard because to access Java apps of any sort Softbank needs to have approved them for use by their customers. That's how it works in Japan on all the carriers. The problem is Softbank owns Yahoo and they use them for their online services, of which Google is a competitor. While KDDI and DoCoMo have started tie-ups with Google now, Softbank hasn't and I don't know if they will at all.
