Why does avi format takes up more memory than 3gp??

I have a 1GB in curve 8320 for now(until I purchase the 8GB) and I was loading a few videos and I used the Roxio media mgr to convert for optimal playback and it took up most of my memory.

is there avi converter to 3gp???

can some one pls tell me why is this?????

Wirelessly posted (BB Curve Gold: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Compression ratios?

I believe avi format uses a lower compression rate, therefore the bigger file size than what .3gp does.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you... but I do have a question...

How long are the videos you play on your curve? Do they play alright?

I put a movie on my 2GB card in the curve and it slows down, skips, and eventually stops.

I have a 4gb card in my Curve and have about 20 movies/tv shows on it ranging from 1/2 hour - 2 hours long and they all play fine....
