BB 8820 on Rogers - Need your help!

Hello all,

I had purchased an 8820 a few months back from eBay and finally had the chance to add a BB plan to my account. While attempting to setup a new user on Rogers' BIS website, I got the following error after entering PIN and IMEI. Any help would be appreciated.

"This BlackBerry is registered with a different service provider. Please re-register this BlackBerry and verfy the URL matches the one provided by your service provider."

BTW, this is an AT&T 8820.

Thank you for your help.

you need to unlock your bb. it's specific to at&t sim card.

It is unlocked... or at least phone calls can be made with my Rogers SIM. Are there further unlocks that are required?

Thanks for the reply.

If the Blackberry you purchased was used this might be why you are getting this message. It could be that it's still tied to an account. Contact the seller and see if he/she will have the PIN and IMEI released. Once that's done you should be able to register the device.

That's not what the error is. If it was locked he wouldn't be able to even use his own sim card from Rogers Wireless with the device, he never complained about that. The issue is not being able to register the device for BIS service.

It's quite odd as I had purchased the phone "new". Would Rogers be able to do that or am I SOL?

It's a brand new device and you're getting that message still? I had that happen to someone I know once, try the following:

Go to Options/Advanced Options/Host Routing Table press the menu key and select Register Now. Once that's done try registering your BlackBerry on the BIS site.

This what a Rogers data rep told a friend of mine to do when he had the same problem. If that doesn't help then call Rogers Data Department and if the CSR can't get it to register then ask him/her to escalate the call to RIM.

yeah what Moderator HF 7 said. I bought a new unlocked 8320 and had that error. so i called into CSR and they set everything up within seconds.

Got a CSR that actually knew what he was doing after 4 tries and now everything works great! Thanks all.

Now... I can finally experience what "crackberry" is all about.
