Hi, i just purchased a blackberry 8310 for at&t and about a week ago and I have charged it twice now, let the battery completely go and then charge it back so to get the most. last night i noticed that about 30 minutes after i had taken it off the charger the battery level had already dropped and by this morning i only had 45% battery life. i know this cant be normal

my question is this:

is there a task manager like on windows smart phones that let you see which programs are currently active?

i have my phone set up for gmail could that be draining the battery?

i also have the gps activated. could that affect it or does that only come on when i used the map application.

i have searched this forum and couldn't find where anybody else had asked these questions so hopefully someone out there can help me. thanks so much in advance

My battery lasts about 2 days with slight to moderate usage (games, email, chat, phone) and 3 days with limited use (phone, email).

You can do alt+escape to do kind of a windows alt+tab and toggle through the applications that are open and close the ones you don't need. Not sure of a task manager. Would be great to know.

I don't think there is a way to turn off GPS. It should be on all the time and I think it's on a call when needed basis. I'm not sure but just my guess.

Just be aware that certain apps are always running in the background and can't be closed.

Any 3rd party app that constantly runs and transmits/receives can potentially reduce battery life. Poor coverage will also reduce battery life.

Not really required to discharge your battery and then recharge. Just plug it in a night when you are sleeping. When not using the GPS application turn it off. Gmail has nothing to do with draining your battery.

The browser, Phone, Home Screen and Messages will always be open and can not be prevented from running in the background. Anything more is wasting power and resources unless required.
