W580i: How is the call volume and call quality? I'm looking at getting one today.

I'm considering getting one today. Is the earpiece volume loud enough to use outside? How is the quality of the call? I mean no gaps in words and crisp sound.

The w580/s500 don't have good outgoing sound. They pick up a lot of background noise, so the person you're talking to will be annoyed. It's not as bad as some phones, but it is a problem for my car (it's a little loud).

The volume also isn't all that loud. I could hardly hear anyone while I was driving down the highway. My hearing isn't the best though.

If you're looking for a good phone for volume and call quality though, the w580 isn't going to win any awards for sure.

Are you going to get it AT&T branded? If you're with AT&T the v3xx is a much better phone in terms of volume and call quality. The outgoing sound is amazing also. My fiance couldn't believe I was driving down the highway talking on the phone b/c the w580 was sounded so horrible. When I am driving on the highway using the v3xx, she said it sounds like I'm just at home! I haven't tried any other phones recently, but the v3xx is a much better phone for what you're looking for.

Oh yeah, the reception on the w580 does seem to be good though. The calls were pretty clear (as you were asking, there were not as many gaps as when I was using the Nokia 6131 which seemed to get not so great reception).

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I currently use the Razr V9 and Razr V3xx and am very happy with the call quality and volume on both. I just wanted to try something different. I just might pass on the w580i.

Oh man, yeah if you already have those, the people you talk to will be greatly disappointed if you switch to a w580!

My fiance was in my car last night on the highway using her s500 (which is the same phone as the w580 basically), and she was talking to her sister. Her sister said, "I'll call you back. All I hear is a bunch of noise!" LOL.

You'll be quite disappointed with the w580's incoming quality and loudness too if you've already been using a v9 and v3xx.

This is my 2 cents, but I'd definitely wait for one of the newer SE phones coming out. Hopefully the call quality will be better. Also, the Moto Z10 looks nice as well. It's a slider that kind of arches (hopefully making it more comfortable to hold), it's got a 16 million color screen (don't know if I phrased that right), CrystalTalk for clear calls, and a 3MP camera. I've got my eye out for that one personally!

w580 volume is OK and when I need it louder i switch it to speaker - plenty loud.

i also find myself using the corded headset more as i listen to a lot of music and FM radio

(third month with my 580 and have not used my ipod once since....)

I can't say about the W580i, but I have the twin phone, the S500i, and it is awesome. I feel as though the speaker and call volume is louder than my K790a, which I thought was decent. The phone has a good feel, the slider is solid, the call quality is great, the volume is great, the camera is decent for a 2 megapixel.
