Who knows their smartphones?

I'm looking for a smartphone, but I'm new to the subject and any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here's what I need from it:

Must-have features:
QWERTY keyboard
internet
tethering capabilities via bluetooth
Palm OS, Windows Mobile, or Symbian (or any OS with an available VNC viewer)
good screen resolution
vibration
durability
has to work with AT&T

Would-be-nice-to-have features:
3G
camera
IM capabilities
decent storage capacity and/or expansion card slot
wifi
reasonable price tag

A Nokia e90 would be ideal because of it's huge screen resolution, but I can't justify spending close to a grand on a phone. I'd go for a Nokia 9300, but it has no vibration feature, which makes it totally useless to me. I'm thinking something along the lines of a Treo or Blackjack II, but I can't seem to get a straight answer as to whether or not they support tethering. Does anyone in here know for sure?

I plan on buying it off ebay unless someone has a better idea. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you can still find one, search for an E70-2. The screen's a little small, but it has a very high resolution screen and the same form as your current 6800.

I thought you can get the E90 for close to $800 now?

At a 352x416 resolution, the E70 looks like a good bet. That's even better than the Treo's 320x320. My 6800 (my first cell phone) has lasted me three years now, and it's still going strong, so I'm pleased with my experience with Nokia.

Thanks, I will definitely look into these further!

According to wikipedia:
There are two models of this phone, the E70-1 for the world market with tri-band (900, 1800, 1900MHz) GSM and UMTS, and the E70-2 for the Americas with tri-band (850, 1800, 1900MHz) GSM and EDGE packet data capability.

Does that mean I would have to buy an E70-2 in order to use it in the US? And would it still work when I travel to Europe? Is that the only difference between the two?

The E70-1 will still work in the US, but only on the 1900 GSM band. Being on AT&T's network, I'd suggest getting the E70-2 for the US bands, especially if you're going to use it the most in the US. The only other difference is that the European UMTS is disabled on the E70-2, but you will still be able to use it on GSM when you're there.

Awesome, thanks for the advice.

How would one tell between the E70-1 and E70-2? For instance, if the ebay auction didn't specify and/or the seller didn't know.

As far as I know, the E70-1 only came in all silver, whereas the E70-2 came in a two tone black and silver color. Each model will also say on the original box and the battery cover whether or not it is a -1 or -2 variant.

All this talk about it has almost made me want to pick one up as a backup. I loved that phone a lot.

q9h is the best option!
