Don't hold your breath ... no one's yet been able to jailbreak 1.1.2!

Posted by: HansAtWork

Will it be Jailbroken? Of course. More importantly, will it contain a new baseband to unlock 1.1.2 iPhones, and will 1.1.3 be unlockable?

Tune in next week, same bat time, same bat channel!

Uh, yes, they have. Moron.

Big sticky in the unlocking forum:

It's going to take me 15 minutes to download... yeah, Apple's serverfarm is bogged to death.

Posted by: photojoe83

Sweet! I'm currently downloading 1.1.3. I don't mind losing the jailbreak. The only program I ever use with it is Navizon anyway, and now it's natively supported in Google Maps!

Apple's server seems fine. The 160mb download took me about 4-5mins.

It's going to take me about 31 minutes, your lucky.

I guess you're the luckiest of them all. 4-5 minutes...

This is what I was wondering, too. I downloaded the install file but haven't installed it yet. Please let us know ASAP if free custom ringtones still exist in the new itunes and 1.1.3. And thanks for being the crash dummy.

Posted by: pierrohhh

i hope ill be able to upgrade to it im looking forward to it. dont mind losing all my 3rd party stuff. i barely use any of it anyways.
come on boys start the hacking :P

My Question with iTunes 7.6 is can you still Manually select the Update or Restore iPhone firmware file thats stored locally? like the past version by holding the "shift" Key down on PC or I belive the apple button on a Mac.

Posted by: CJ Matthews

Yeah thats my only real concern also. I'm currently using iTunes 7.5 and 1.1.2. for the free ringtones workaround, if that still works then I'll upgrade. If anybody can confirm that it works I'd appreciate it.

Posted by: Haas_Dave

Well, about 2/3 downloaded in 20 minutes... my download rate gets worse by the second...

I'm downloading it but I'm waiting until someone can confirm a virginized phone doesn't [semi]break from the update.
I bet custom ringtones exist in the update (unless they changed something in the firmware end, I doubt it). iTunes 7.6 keeps 1.1.2 phones updated with custom ringtones, so I would assume it will in 1.1.3.

Posted by: adizm_55

... 7 minutes left for 1.1.3 download (about 15-16 minutes in all).

I hit the shift+check for update and picked the file linked earlier here.
My phone was jailbroken, but not unlocked… using it on ATT
After the update, all the info stayed as is. (of course the installer, or any other apps are not there, but I wasn’t expecting them)
My carrier text is still the custom one I picked earlier. My custom ringtone is still there. So are bookmarks, SMSs, etc…

I can't even connect to the update server...

Posted by: duddy

I just updated and my custom tones are still there and working. No clue if I can still ADD new ones though.

Posted by: duddy

Well, I updated it and once it came on I disconnected the iPhone from my PC and left for work. Now that I'm at work, the iPhone does not work. It has the "Connect the iTunes" picture and a "Slide for Emergency" option.

I can pick up WiFi but cannot use the phone.

I guess the iPhone has to be reactivated after the update?

Posted by: CJ Matthews

can you try adding new ones and let us know if it works. Also I was afraid to update iTunes to v7.6. Is it safe?

Posted by: fman74

I have an imac. It won't let me upgrade. It keeps saying that it can not conect to the server.

Well, unfortuanatly I'm at work for another hour and a half. I'll get right on it when I get home though.

Posted by: fman74

Anyone with a imac just do a general update. I got 5 updates including new itunes.

Posted by: adizm_55

I just added a custom ringtone using the rename method in itunes 7.5. I will update itunes now and verify the method still works with itunes 7.6 (I'm taking the plunge because I heard you can manually add and delete stuff on the phone with this new version).

Ok let us know how it goes with the ringtones AND with the manual add/delete please.

Posted by: adizm_55

Ok good news and bad news. The manual add/delete works as stated, meaning any song can be added to the phone or deleted from it without syncing. Disk mode, unfortunately, is still unavailable. The bad news is ringtones are broken. The method I used 10 minutes ago no longer works and some previous methods that involved renaming twice do not work either. That freaking sucks, but the rest is pretty awesome.

Here is confirmation of the manual management feature:

Posted by: CJ Matthews

Well thats great... I won't update till you can do ringtones. I'd like the manual management but I can do without it for now.

Posted by: simbill

lol took me less then 2 minutes to download, apple isnt bogged to death.. its maxing out my connection! Whoever has slow download speed: your inet provider sucks

Would this be the method where you use iTunes to convert your chosen ringtone into .ACC format, then manually change the file extention to .m4r, then doubleclick on it to add it to iTunes as a ringtone?

Posted by: CJ Matthews

thats the way i understand what he's saying. can anybody else confirm if this is true?

Posted by: pdxa4

Ah crap, just read this now. I went to upgrade my iPhone software from 1.1.1 to 1.3 and in the process of the iPhone restoring it gave me a unknown error (1603).

I only then realized that my iTunes version is 7.4.2.4, so I am now currently upgrading iTunes to 7.6 and then I will reconnect my iPhone and see what happens, my fingers are crossed right now...aghhh

Ok all good right now. Make sure you update iTunes first, before any firmware upgrade...

Posted by: adizm_55

Sorry guys, I've been discussing this on another thread and forgot about this one. Ringtones are not broken, but many people (including me) have had to do a hard reset of the phone before they show up in the ringtone list. But the good news is they do work and i jumped the gun on claiming they didn't.

Alright, I saw the other thread you were posting on and I'm takin' the plunge... BUT IF IT DOESN'T WORK I BLAME YOU!!!

j/k

i was just playing arround with itunes 7.6 and iphone v1.1.3 and just by changing the file extention like before. when you had to convert the file to an ACC then from .m4a to .m4r and back to .m4a well this time just change it back to .m4r and add it like before to the ringtones list and you're good to go. hope this works for every one out there
