Trying to unbrand Nokia 6280 on 3

I've read all through the forums and am still confused.

I am trying to debrand my 3 network 6280 so that I can manually select a network as my phone keeps jumping from the 3 network to orange (I think) the backup network nearby.

I've changed the product code to various values including 0539835 and 0541921 but the Nokia Software Updater always says Phone Not Recognized after trying to identify it.

What am I doing wrong?

I've also read that people have performed factory resets, would this give me the access to manually select a network (without the 3 phone automatically going back to automatic network selection)? If so, which factory settings do i use, there are 8 (including Full Factory, Leave Factory, Sw Upgrade, etc) on NSS
