1.1.3 and Wi-fi

Anyone else have some trouble with wi-fi after the upgrade?

Wi-fi worked flawlessly with 1.1.1. and 1.1.2. Immediately after the 1.1.3 upgrade, it refused to connect with the wireless at my home. It would discover it but not connect. Continued to used Edge.

At work, it did connect. I will see what happens when I get back home.

At home I use a Linksys wireless router. At work I am connecting to the same model Linksys. So I know that is not the issue.

try updating your router firmware. i had that problem with a windows mobile phone. i updated the rom and then it stopped connecting to my wireless router. i updated the firmware on the router and it worked.

btw, does 1.1.3 support wpa?

No problem on my iPhone, after 1.1.3 upgrade, it is still connected to the WI-FI network

I have not looked at the sec settings. But I will check and post what I see.

I was beginning to wonder if the icon just did not switch from the "E" to the wireless icon. But at work it did change.

I reset the router at home. I did not mess with the firmware though. I will have to see if there is a new version.

Just for grins, what model of router is it?

(FWIW: I've been on Netgear, Belkin, Orinico and Westell Wifi routers without incident since 1.1.3... dunno the model numbers though).

My browser on WiFi seems to be a bit peppier after the update.

1.1.3 actually fixed this for me. In 1.1.2 the iPhone wouldnt automatically connect to my house WiFi. But now it does.

The router model is WRT54G.

Actually the browser, weather, Google maps, all seem a little faster when connected wirelessly here at work. Even the edge connection seems a little faster......that can't be..........can it? Nah.

What version of the WRT54G? There are several versions, some using *nix-like OS and some that don't.
If its a version prior to five, you might fare better using one of the open-source firmwares like DD-WRT. They tend to have better functionality.

The newer Linksys routers are horrible IMO.

The one at home is version 6. I don't know about the one here.

I am having the same issues. Can browse a site for awhile, then it shuts off. I have a secured wireless network with WEP. All works great on an unsecured network of my neighbor's. Any ideas?

same thing just happened to me, all of a sudden it just stopped working. wifi icon is still there and it shows connected still, but no pages will load, youtube app doesnt work etc.

i disconnected and reconnected to my wifi and it worked for like 5 seconds and then stopped. weird. going to try it later.

I am having the same problem. At first it would not connect at all. I rebooted the phone and then with some effort it would connect again but it is much less reliable. It is always work to get it to connect now and it sometimes drops off.

I had a similar problem, but not the same. Mine would connect to the Wifi and then not open any websites because: "safari can't open the page becasue it can't find the server."

I changed the DNS setting or the connection I was having trouble with to: 208.67.222.222 and it worked for me.

i had constant problems with my linksys router (version 6 with updated firmware). I was constantly, at least once a day, resetting because the iPhone was knocking it off somehow. I tested this by shutting wifi off on my iPhone for 3 days while I was at home and during that time had no interruptions.

I got tired of it and bought a dlink draft n router and so far so good. Using wpa encryption. I went ahead and got the n router because that was recommended for my apple tv anyway. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I get no more disconnect issues.

I am also having trouble with the wifi icon though. I know I'm connected but sometimes the icons takes a long time to show or doesn't appear at all.

still having this problem, not just on my home linksys, but other open wifi networks. getting kind of frustrating

oh and it worked flawlessly with 1.1.2

"One of the more frustrating issues with iPhone software/firmware 1.1.3, as noted yesterday, is the sudden incompatibility of some previously working Bluetooth devices ...

The fix for these issues has now been discovered, though its less than ideal: Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC then press the “Restore” button in iTunes. When prompted, choose the option “Set up as new iPhone.” Once the phone has been restored, re-attempt pairing with the problematic Bluetooth device. Unfortunately, this solution will result in the erasure of some custom settings on the phone."

My problem was bluetooth, but it may work for other issues as well

i'm not sure if this would help the wifi issues but may help others with bt paring. Thx!

For me, 1.1.3 got me on a wifi network I hadn't be able to connect to before. There is some very weird stuff with the iPhone wifi, it mostly works fine, but when it doesn't its nearly impossible to figure out what the problem is. Here's a simple suggestion that worked for me once... in wifi settings choose 'forget this network' and try to reconnect again.

Posted by: LuxmbrgUs

I bought a new Linksys G Router and now it works.

Posted by: LarryW

I upgraded the router firmware from the Linksys site. This solved my problem. It works perfectly now.

I would think that should not make a difference since it worked before. But it did.

You guys may look into that.

Posted by: myxomatosis'

yeah i powercycled my linksys and seems to be fine now. *shrug*
