Any Free GPS Software?

Hi is there any free software for Windows Mobile 6 that just uses your GPS receiver to tell you your coordinates?? Does not need to have maps i just want it to be able to tell me my coordinates. Thanks. Also i'm using a Motorola Q9h if that makes a difference. Thanks.

I have the Q9h with AT&T. I have applied the Modaco hack to get my GPS working which it does. GM displays a blue dot to indicate your location. There is not a readout of lat-lon or other coordinates of that location. You can input lat-lons for directions and searching, but I don't think it does exactly what you want. But, the price is right - Free.

There is an app on Smartphone.net called GPSTest that is free and does what you want.

Have you looked at the third page? Press the down arrow on your directional pad for the second and third pages of info.

Can't GPS be used with Google Maps? Wouldn't Google Maps be sufficient for you?

OP wants to know coordinates (lat/lon) and Google Maps doesn't show that information.

How do you get this GPS Test application to 'see' the Q9's internal GPS receiver? It seems to be designed to look for an external receiver connected to the phone.

Ohhh okay. But google maps still provides GPS support completely free (except for data through your carrier)... correct?

GPS Test has three screens you can access by the arrow buttons on the center control. One screen shows the "relative" signal strength of transmitters, one screen shows the "position" of satellites found, the third screen has numerous boxes which provide various levels of information - lat/lon/bearing are just three. I believe that's the lat/lon/etc of the receiver in the phone.

I will typically start GPS Test before I start Google Maps. Once everything is up and running, I'll turn on GPS in Google Maps (option 5 on the Menu). This works for me.

I do not have any external receiver, just a Q9h.

Yes. Windows Live Search Mobile too, and I actually like Live Seach better in some ways. Live Search beeps to prompt you when a turn is coming up on your route, for example. And Live Search automatically prompts for re-routes if you leave your plotted route.

Are you talking about GPS Test Version 1.04, Copyright 2007 Chartcross Ltd?

When I start it, the BT manager opens and it scans for a BT COM port connection. No way to get it to connect to the internal GPS.

I have a Q9c (Sprint). Maybe the way the GPS was deployed on the device is different?

Wow... I most certainly will have to check that out. Thanks for the tip! Is there anything additional to download for it, or is everything already preinstalled on mobile 6?

It's not installed; you have to get it from MS. https://www.microsoft.com/windowsmo...livesearch.mspx

Windows Live Search directly from your phone.
On mobile browser go to wls.live.com
and download/install the .cab file.
Quick and seamless procedure.

Check out gpsVP...as long as it connects to internal receiver it shows lat/long. Works good on external anyway. Also it uses garmin maps or integrates live, google, or openstreet maps. Caches the rastered maps to SD..shows MPH..distance..etc!

i installed google maps onto my q9h, but when i run it, the menu & options key are not tied to my phone's softkeys, instead they are on top of the internet & messaging quick keys, and are therefore inoperable....anyone else have this problem??

This gives lat-long-altitude-speed only and will log files.
