Ok...the questions have been asked....

V3M (FWV: 24.1_01.19.07)

CAN IT BE HACKED?

Yes.

CAN IT BE FLASHED?

Yes...some have been able to...I believe there is no need to...read on...

CAN MP3'S BE RINGTONES?

Yes. P2KCommander is successful in this. Read on for instruction.

CAN I CHANGE THE OUTER LCD FROM THE VERIZON IMAGE?
Yes. Read on for instruction.

Add your question below with a post. These are the most common I have come across to this point in time. What I will be doing is sending a PM to whomever asks a question to let them know when I have EDITED THIS POST. I want to keep all information on this one post so any other newcoming person into the V3M Hacking community will be able to have a one stop resource center until hacktherzr.com is back online. Furthermore, any more suggestions to add to this post, send em to me and I will get them up on here.

RUNDOWN OF 24.1_01.19.07

Go to Menu>Settings>Press 9>Press 2>Press 1

If you see this: 24.1_01.19.07

Its Dual Coded Seems [this is to the best of my knowledge from what I have seen in the coding of the phone]. You will need to be able to read hex code for this phone to become functional to-the-max. Unless a new software comes out for it, in which case I would like it as well. I am sick of going through the code.

(Dual Coded meaning:

For every one "check box" in a basic seem editor, there are 2 diffent seem codes to edit that one funtion. The reason your bluetooth is enabled is because that is stock. They added some features back, and took some away on this version. I wouldn't reccommend flashing this version of the software if you don't have a backup phone; unknown reaction as of yet. They really had some organized coders on this one...It's gonna take a while to crack it. I am working on it. If I release a proggie, I'll let people know on the forums.)

In order to get movies working (full length) You will need a 3gP, 3gpp etc. and a minisd drive. Simple, load it on to the card from an external source and it will play when you put it back in the phone. MP3's won't unless you sync them (I dunno about WMA's I just converted them. A lot of glitches found from media player, I reccommend the verizon software even though it is a memory-hogging-crap-excuse-for-i-tunes-wannabe...The files won't be cut off at 4 minutes...(a lot of mine were, tool songs are usually 5-6 mins long, It cut off lateralus at 3 minutes and corrupted the rest of the songs from windows media player; worked fine from the verizon software). I got movies playing with ease just by using AVI files and converting them to 3gp files, load it on the the sd card directly from the computer or whatever hardware you have as long as it isn't the phone.

(download.com - search for "3gp convert" click on lisence type "free" and pick one I forget which one i grabbed [It is called freeze3gp])

My questions out there:

Does anyone know of a possible way to downgrade from 24.1_01.19.07 to the original V3M software on verizon? (I have a request to a buddy in management at verizon HQ to grab me a copy of all the firmware releases...we'll see if he can or not...hi-tech stuff...

So Good luck with the seem edit's...as far as I have gone with those is the military time setting edit works, the backlight options, and the vibe-ring works. The rest I am skeptical to try until I finish analyzing all of the hex codes in it....Lotta friggen pages. I want to make sure there is no "auto off if" statements in there and if there is what they are linked to. I'll keep posting as my findings increase...I have had the phone for less than a week so my knowledge of it is limited at this point. Kudos, good luck.

(Post taken from HELP! Tearing hair out over Verizon RAZR V3m)

P2KCOMMANDER USE

OK....P2k is working to transfer the songs and other data to the phone as well as alter "verizon.gif" on this firmware (see phone type in header for version)

Took about 2 hrs to figure out why P2K wouldn't read phone...I didn't alter the seem to read the phone as a V3C...when I did, took a couple of phone reboot's and system restart...voila. No need to flash this version. It has all the features most people want out of the V3C, and P2k can do the rest that the people flashing to the Alltell from this firmware are attempting to aquire. Got photoshop? make your own themes and make sure you use the same method for altering the Verizon.gif...same names etc. Still working on the red Bars...reason I am skeptical on those is the functions linked to the red bars in the seem files are located on your screen by:

1) X,Y co-ordinates
2) COLOR!

In order to alter the red bars you would need to change the code describing the color and co-ordinates on your phone...change the co-ordinates to have the buttons appear elsewhere on the screen...Brick risk you might ask? about 99% The color codes aren't as easy as html. I can live with the red bars....(Until I have a backup phone...my E815 wont charge anymore from an incident with a pool and a keg of beer... )

I am always open to resources from outside parties. Please feel free to correct any statement I say...It is believed to be true to the best of my knowledge due to my own research on my V3m Verizon. I know that I may have made error due to the fact I don't work for Verizon and I don't write their firmware

(Post Taken from:new V3M won't retain seem edit? )

P2KCOMMANDER USE contd.

[Putting your own ringtones in]

Use Motorola Software Update to connect with the phone...It is the most stable connection and P2K needs all the backup stability it can get.

Make sure in the Hardware Manager you are connected with the drivers. (You can't miss em if they are loaded. If they arent there, uninstall them, reboot. Re install. Reboot. Continue this process trying different sources of the same driver if necessary...It'll work eventually. Patience is a virtue.

1) Once phone is connected with MSU load up p2kcommander (must have activated seem 2427 data transfer with MPT...if you have the firmware I have (24.1_01.19.07) it is already checked. No need for edit)

2) On one side of P2k Commander load up the phone (mine was A)

3) Load ur mp3 folder or whatever folder your sounds you want to utilize are in

4) On the (phone side...I am going to call it A) Find the file called mytones.db on the main phone folder...delete it (this is a database storing all your "special ringers" and list of the ringtones on your phone...it reloads when you load the phone, thus your ringtones become "locked" so even w/ a master reset your tones remain on there)

5) From (A) Click the folder motorola

6) >shared

7) >Ringtones

8) start transferring your ringtones.

A NOTE: If your file transfers start failing (bottom left corner of P2kC) Then reload P2K...no big deal, delete the DB file and start again, check the tones to see if any of them got transferred properly, if not, delete them and re-do it. The tones don't matter if they dont transfer properly, neither do the pics. They just don't show up on the phone correctly is all.

As for the "open phone outter LCD" picture...

1) (A)

2) >mobile

3) verizon.gif (save it if you want to change it back at some point...right click on it)

THE IMAGE YOU REPLACE THIS WITH MUST BE 98X80 PIXELS OR THE SCREEN WILL BE BLANK

I changed mine to the White Pony from the deftones CD book cover

This works for other files as well; pictures and tones are easy. I am working on getting java installed to replace the Brew files and protocol. This is some risky hacks, I don't reccommend trying to edit anything other than the stuff I have provided here unless you have a backup phone OR instructions...

IF YOU PLAN TO GO FOR THE FREE INTERNET PLEASE READ ON...
Don't trust everything you read, some people with that "free internet" BS makes you connect to their own server, and they now have unlimited access to your phone account.... be aware. Look up the IP address before you try it. So far NONE of the ones I have scanned on the first 5 google pages are legit/work. Some are legit, and don't work (eg: google). Most aren't legit. overall....it don't work...verizon has all your packets sent and recieved...regardless of server you are connected to..I promise.

The only way for free internet on the phone is to directly link it to a router or land line. This involves dissasembly of your phone, with a side of extra risk to shorting out your phone.

You arent using the phone for a connection with this method at all, just like a "wi-fi"...I'm not going to go into much detail on this because I don't recommend it...it opens all ports your phone can read and is completly unsecure with this method. Besides, if you don't know how to do this prior to reading this post, I will bet money that you shouldn't be trying it without some background knowledge right off the bat. It's not safe even if you DO know what you are doing.

Very good progress. Just a couple of questions:

What exact version of P2k are you using, and can you provide a download link? I don't have P2k in front of me, but I don't remember anything about sides.

Have you been able to modify the power on animation that talks about Vcast?

Could you go into more detail about loading up the phone and the P2k program? Just for clarity.

Thanks very much again. I've only had this phone for 4 days myself, and I've got a ringtone ready that I'm dying to use.

Posted by: sporkgirl17

Firstly I'd like to thank you for all the hard work you've put into this and the nice all-in-one-place thread is going to be very helpful! You have successfully answered all the of the questions I had before, but I did come across a few new one's now.

1. Version of p2k. I have 3.2.2, curious if this one is good to go or if I should update to a newer one.

2. WAP. Wow that seems complicated! I have it on my older phones through HoTTProxy and it works fine. I'm still an America Choice II plan, so it still only costs minutes (I hear that has changed with the new Nationwide plan going to usage). No hope of unlocking and setting up a Web Session or using PST to replace the Browser file? I can't imagine having to open my phone to get it. Geez, if that's the case I'm out.

I'm going to try the ringtones when I get ahold of that phone later today. Thanks again!

Posted by: throbinskin

Thanks for the hard work......Mine came with new firmware too just purchased weeks ago. I'll be visiting this thread everyday to see if any progress. I have already done ring tones with no problem. but other seem edits that i have read do not work....

great idea on reverse firmware. I was wanting/thinking of the same. that way maybe all of these seem edits would work.. I tried to unlock/seem edit the siren ringer that is supposedly already on the phone and that wouldn't work.

YES ..... would like to flash back to older firmware to be able to do much more.... I REALLY WANT TO PUT DIFF SKINS IN, BUT IM WITH VERIZON "CRAP"

ANYONE DO SKINS WITH VERIZON AND NEW FIRMWARE ?

Posted by: sporkgirl17

Verified, ringtones are working for me by adding files to the motorola/shared/ringtone folder and then deleting mytonesdb.db. I'm using P2kCommander v3.2.2. Great! Thanks so much!

Questions and the Answers

Q: What exact version of P2k are you using?

A: I am Currently using version V4.9.E

Q: Have you been able to modify the power on animation that talks about Vcast?

A: I have not tried it myself, since my phone is more often on. From looking at the seem codes the method you could use would have the same directions as for a V3C. Be very careful not to brick your phone by changing the length of the video start-up. It could become frozen on the "pre-load" screen if the amount of time used is different than the default V-Cast video.

Q: Could you go into more detail about loading up the phone and the P2k program? Just for clarity.

A: Ok, in order to get P2K up and running along side of your phone, you will need these things:

1) A phone

2) A connection from the phone to the PC (USB is best stable connection, blue tooth could potentially work, but i wouldn't reccommend it...you would be going through too many woods to get to grandma's house....bad analogy......

3) A desire for change.

Once you have these things you will be able to begin your "hacking" (I don't like calling this hacking but it seems to be the word on the street for this...it's more editing than anything else...certainly not hacking...that's a whole different forum though )

For linking P2k:

1) Load up Motorola Software update
(wait about 5 seconds at least)

2) Plug in your phone

3) Once connected, load up P2KC (that is a link to download page)

What I mean by "sides"...

On Side 1 Where the arrow is pointing (drop down list) Pick the one with a Star icon that says "A\****"
(the **** = your phone...might not say actual name or phone)

On the other side load the folder in which your files are located.
When you click the button "copy" at the bottom it will automatically begin to transfer to the folder you have open on "side 1" or vice versa, whichever you have highlighted.

I hope this answers your questions laakss. Let me know.

Hey guys, I connected the phone to PST and it read the Browser file fine. I'm wondering if it would be safe to add my HoTTProxy and update it, then have it available in the ##BROWSER menu. Anyone tried this method? Looks like it would work, but I'm skiddish about overwriting files until someone else has tried it.

MORE ANSWERS

1. Version of p2k. I have 3.2.2, curious if this one is good to go or if I should update to a newer one.

I see no necessity in that, the newer one is more stable however..(if you had an issue with that at all, upgrade...link in previous post)

I was talking more along the lines of "Free through Verizon" scams..In any event, they will not necessarily charge you for the logging in to the net if you change the server, but you will be charged for the packets sent and recieved. The towers do a lil' somthin somthin' like this....

------------>
Phone|______ Sending ___ Verizon___Data|
Phone|¯¯¯¯¯¯Recieving¯¯¯ Verizon¯¯¯Data|

<------------

So either way they track your usage of the net on your phone...unless you bypass their towers by dissasembling the phone, clipping a few wires on the motherboard and adding new connections from the broken connections....not an easy task...certainly a do-able one though.

Once I get JAVA on this phone to replace BREW I will have gained a lot more knowledge on how the firmware is created, thus finding ways around it. When I can do that I will try to find a way to transfer the packet data elsewhere respectively (at least I hope)...for the time being the diagram above is what would happen unless you have loaded some type of program that will direct the packets elsewhere without travelling through Verizon...I don't know really how to explain that cuz I havn't made the proggie yet

I was able to transfer the mp3 file to my phone yet it does not play.
Any suggestions?

It worked! Thanks so much!

Hey thanks for the info. I finally got to flash my Sprint v3m into Verizon 1.09.02 Monter, to 1.19.05 Monter and finally to 1.19.07 Customer Upgrade. From that version I got p2kc 4.9.E to work just like you did with yours. So far not MTP but I haven't really bother with it yet.

So far successful flashes were done on two phones from the black sprint v3m to the (RED) sprint v3m.

Now for my question.

1. Where can I upload my pictures or how can I go about uploading my pictures with p2k?

2. I haven't seen a single option for my camera. Is there one under Verizon if so were or what button?

3. *Update* I plug the v3m (RED) phone and it change I guess the drivers from my connection ports I guess. This was before I flashed the red phone to 1.19.07. So, now I can't use p2k to log into them /a. I don't get exacly what i need to do in order to change them until I can get a setup that I can log into.

I guess for now I will just continue checking here for updates.

Thanks Again!

-DJ

I'll answer the rest of these by tomorrow...for now I am watching the pats game =)

Posted by: DJAngelicon

Thanks h4x0l2, enjoy your game I will check tomorrow. I added one more question maybe you can help me out with it step by step. Later!

Posted by: h4x0l2

1. Where can I upload my pictures or how can I go about uploading my pictures with p2k?

(a)/motorola/shared/pictures

2. I haven't seen a single option for my camera. Is there one under Verizon if so were or what button?

The camera's tend to have fewer options on them due to the fact the simplicity behind the "program" that runs on the phone. All it really could potentially edit is fullscreen and the original view. I havn't found this seem yet (if there even is one). The reason there may not be one is just like V-Cast, it is a separate application. What you would most likely need to do is find the program that runs on the phone, then use a hex editor or a VB editor to fine tune the settings. One wrong turn on these edits will make the camera not work. Be careful with it, try to do some research on what company makes the program to run the camera, and if it is verizon, you probably won't get too far with information about the program; outside companies (from my experience) probably won't mind directing you to the source code. Let me know your progress, I'll take a look into it myself as well.

I think I understand whats happening here...the drivers switch over to the (sprint?) drivers, but the phone isn't a sprint so it can't read those drivers. Kinda like if you tried to run a Knoppix driver on XP...it just won't read the same data. I reccommend not allowing the driver change at all, see what happens. If that dosen't work, try using a generic driver made for a mass storage device...You won't be able to get into the phone with just that, you will need the phone drivers running along side the generic ones. Try some different combinations of the drivers switching from "sprint/sprint" - "verizon/sprint" - "sprint/verizon" etc.... This may allow a bypass of the error's one or more of the drivers are reading... process of elimination to find the source of the problem. If that won't work, let me know and I will try to find you a way to bypass it. Just give me a full detail report on errors you get.

Posted by: DJAngelicon

Thank You! for your answer since we found a 3 day deal to get 2 razr v3m for $9.99 each we figure I get them and keep my other one for backup or testing purposes. However, I did figure out the camera issue it turn out that the phones once I receive the one from Verizon. I have notices that the button from sprint phone icon which equal speaker. Is in fact the camera/video button for the original Verizon v3m phones. I tested both of them with the same firmware since on my grey one came with the original 1.19.07 firmware. I was able to test both options and it turns out that both phones now are identical despise the fact that the one single button is totally different from sprint/Verizon.

As far as the drivers go I haven't play with it but once again I have notices that the phone for my wife came with the 1.09.02 drivers and totally changed my USB drivers once again. So, I will start doing some testing soon and figure out the best way not to allow the phone to change your main phone/usb/p2k connections. This way no one else does this mistake.

Posted by: h4x0l2

I thank you for the update. This phone is slowly starting to become easier to understand exactly how they programmed it. When we find this kind of info out, it moves us forward to finding ways to do some new things with the software on it, like bypassing BREW and also changing the operating system all together. It would be cool to throw linux on the phone with Beryl running =D also making it compatible with as many gigs of memory as you want instead of being limited to just the 1gig.

Thanks again DJAngelicon!

So with the default settings, does this phone work with MPT as a modem?

Yes. It will only transfer calandar, contacts, and a simple version of a backup. It wont transferr anything else unless you change the phone to be read as a v3c...wich isn't any good because that phone has no memory card slot. P2K is the way to go.

Hey h4x0l2, I know you mention something about having patience before forgot were about having it connect eventually to p2k. Reason I ask this is because I am trying to figure out how I can change the drivers over and over until I get the correct one? I am currently using Clean & Re-install Motorola Driver Installer.

P.S. By the way I would love to run Linux haha, it would be faster and better in my opinion coming from a student majoring in Networking.

Ok, when you install the drivers, there are usually more than one for the device. What you need to do is find the drivers, keep one, install the other drivers, keep one. So now you have 2 drivers from different installations saved. Then replace those drivers in the folder from the original installation the drivers where in. Mix and match them till it connects.

Let me know your progress and if I made that sound too confusing.

how about this one for ya, when you can set a reminder for un answered calls and texts, there is no option for changing the alert tone...its this disgusting aweful beep that i would love to change or just get rid of and have the reminder be vibrate.

AGREE !!! That would be nice if not the beep a short tune !

or what about adding mp3s clips for sounds and sending them thru messages

Alrighty, as far as i know (and i havn't even looked, so I'll let you know when I check it) the option in the seem edits will look something like this..."on" or "off"...ever get the blue screen of death on a PC? seems to me that it is a generic "hardware" tone. I will double check the sound files on the phone throughout to see if I can find it, if I do find one, it'll be as easy as replacing the file with a different sound. as far as I have noticed, when I changed the seems to have my phone set to vibe/ring, there are 2 different vibe selections on there. I checked one (1) but not two. My phone dosent beep. so maybe it's that simple to fix that. I'll double check into it.

send them to the sound folder on your phone, or even easier mail it to your phone (yournumber@vtext.com) with the file as an attachment. It'll be found as a sound clip. I know there are size restrictions (3mb?). You can save it to the phone in the sounds folder (you can't use it as a ringtone.)

yea i tried for hours saving it to the file system thru bitpim and p2k...i go to motorola shared then audio and still doesnt show up...

Posted by: cisurfer

and i just unchecked part one for the vib ring setting and it still makes the missed call/remider sound

(and the VIBE/ring problem you are having)

I'm going to check into this today, I brought my USB cord to work with me so I can give a step by step when/if I figure out whats going on with you.

Posted by: laakss

I think something I did screwed up my phone. When I get a text message, it sometimes says I got 2-5. And when I go into my text inbox, it says it's 88-94% full, even after I empty it. What gives?

I just purchased a Razor V3M which was used on the Amp'd line (provider no longer exists).

Can anyone advise how I get this activated using the Verizon service.
I tired *228 but it did not work. Can anyone provide directions?

Will unlocking the phone help?

I don't see EIMN? code anywhere on the phone (or is that only applicable for GSM networks)

Is it possible to get this phone activated with another provider besides Amp'd?

Thank you for your help.

You will need to unlock the phone in order to try this.

EIMN - I am going to assume they don't use that for this phone...could be wrong....I can't find any information on an EIMN anywhere...Are you sure you didn't mean an MEID?

Give it a try with it unlocked then check back.

EIMN - Correct this if this is the incorrect data I looked at:

A communication network (VCN) offering an ETHERNET service to a plurality of local terminals (ELT1, ELTN, TLT1, TLTN1-8), typically computers, is proposed. Flexibility and cost are enhanced with respect to existing ETHERNET networks by emulating an ETHERNET network towards the local terminals whilst pooling complex functions in a computer network server (LANS) connected to the backbone ATM netork (BB). This is achieved by coupling the local terminals, preferably separately, to standard ETHERNET links (ELN, TL1, TLN1-8) and by terminating these links in interface modules (EIM1, EIMN, TIM1, TIMN) converting the ETHERNET frames from the local terminals in ATM packets destined for the central server which stores these packets in an input buffer (IB1-X) and performs the above complex functions, particularly also the transmission of these packets to appropriate ones of the interface modules. Buffer overflow is avoided by transmitting backpressure signals (BP1-X) to the interface modules so as to control them to halt transmission on the computer links. The present invention is particularly well suited for early deployment of ATM networks as their inherent high bitrate transmission capability is used to provide ETHERNET type services at a lower cost per terminal whilst employing standard access technology.

so i got the file onto the sound area but its locked from sending...still havent found that alert file?

I've tried for a couple of hours, but I can't get P2kCommander to see my v3m. Could someone post a step-by-step driver install instructions. And maybe which driver versions?

hey if you want more to know everything about Motorola and all hidden posibilities of it - visit http://sonopia.howardforums.com . Very interesting and easy to understand how to use you phone for 100%

link dont work...

Posted by: deliberate187

You have to use p2kcommander and Motorola Software Update - with MSU running and minimized, start p2kcommander... then you can upload the files to a/motorola/shared/ringtones and delete the tonesdb stuff... restart your phone and voila ringtones. I tried for hours using the /shared/sounds it doesn't work before stumbling upon this. So maybe my chagrin could be someone's solution

Sorry for not getting back sooner folks; been really busy.

Alright, as for the "beep" I hav't been able to check for it yet, stay tuned cuz last night I remembered I needed to find it cuz my phone started beeping....and I am also going to find the "Low Battery" chirp.

Hey h4x0l2, any development on any of this?

I recently moved from a V3c to a V3m with this firmware, and I'm really missing the ability to change ring styles with the flip closed and the ability to change the missed call beep.

Posted by: h4x0l2

Nothing yet....I havn't had time to look through the code recently....I will, and when I do, It'll get posted

Has anyone been able to get Virbate Then Ring working with the V3m (version 24.1_01.19.07)?

The copying ringtones works great with P2K Commander but the hacks I have found for Seem 2742, record 1, offset 7b don't seem to work.

Thanks

The copying ringtones works great with P2K Commander but the hacks I have found for Seem 2742, record 1, offset 7b don't seem to work.

Thanks

I haven't been able to get any of those edits to work, either. I assume that is due to the firmware being dual-coded, as has been mentioned.

Even if we did get Vibrate then Ring working, though, I don't know how we'd turn it on without the ability to change ring styles with the flip closed...

Anyone make any progress with this new software release?

If the issue is "dual seems", couldn't you just edit both seems if you could find the other copy?

But appearently not all of the seems work this way since when changing the model number seem, that change works (from V3m to V3mM).

I am a software engineer so if anyone can provide some information of how you map the phone's memory to the various functions I can take a look around...

Only some of the seems are dual coded, like the outer LCD background....I am working on new projects since it is the beginning of the year with work, I havn't had any time to check more things, I made as much info as I have available up to this point. As long as you have a hex reader (XVII) and the seem edit software, along with a hell of a lot of patience, you should be able to translate the code. I bet these people would really appreciate the help. I can get you the tech info I have up to this point. I just havn't had time. The translation is a tedious process.

Is there anyway to do the NVM hack for enabling tethering with a pocketpc with a v3m and this firmware?

does verizons corp store has this software update, and will it work on both v3ms the grey and silver

I just purchased the v3m (24.1_01.19.07). I have been able to get music to sync using WMP 10, mtpfix.exe, and the latest 3.5.0 usb drivers from Motorola, Windows XP Pro.

I have a 2GB MicroSD card installed.

I've tried numerous ways to get video onto my phone.
- Using MPT, File transfer studio, the MMC(Removable) directory gives the error "Request denied by phone (Internal server error (0x50))".
- In Bitpim (1.0.5), the folders my_flix, my_music, my_pix, my_sounds are empty and files uploaded to them do not show up on the phone. The folder mmc1 is empty.
- arcconfig.ini was configured default to [Flix Settings] "Card Folder=fs:/card0/my_flix"
- P2KCommander 3.2.6 and P2KCommander V4.9.E only shows three folders.
- And strangely enough, when I pull the microSD card from my phone and use the adapter plus my card reader, Windows recognizes the card as unformatted and asks if I want to format. Put the card back into the phone and all my music/pictures are still there and function normally.

Sooo.... Does the phone format the card in a different file system other than FAT/FAT32? I haven't done much testing yet, figured I'd ask first.

The only way I've found to upload videos to the phone is to use MPT to upload to the video folder (Internal Phone Memory), then use the move option on the phone to copy it to the SD card. Obviously this is extremely limited by the phones internal memory size.

I've got a friend with the "red" v3m looking to go from Sprint -> Cricket.

Anyone had luck locking down the procedure?

You can send 3gP videos to the memory card directly from the PC. I have been able to watch 3 movies on the phone. Downside is that if you get a call, you have to start the movie from square one, and the fast forward only does about 2 1/2 to 3 second jumps forward in the movie...

I've been working a lot recently, so I've put down the phone for a while. I should be able to produce some more ideas for unlocks and edits within the month.

You need to look in the tone settings menu on your phone. There should now be a menu for "vibrate"...switch it to on. Go to the tone sounds, swith those on. You now have the vibe/ring feature.

Yes, they won't release it though. I'v been working on getting a copy myself, the insider that I know has had a hard time making an excuse to need it.

I want to enable vibrate THEN ring...

Ok, who wants to test....

The recent release from Motorola is the DST_V3M_01.1E.00R_PRIkk76257_MONSTER_01.shx... from what I understand.. this is for the MEID version and will give you the MotoUI....
http://rapidshare.com/files/1042920..._MONSTER_01.rar
who wants to give it a try?

Posted by: Stat1c

ok, update... incorrect. do NOT flash to that file if u have the MEID.

Posted by: MoldySpore

I successfully modified the startup and shutdown animated .gifs

The files are:

customer_closing.gif (113,177 bytes)
customer_opening.gif

First off, you'll notice I dont have a size for the opening image. That is because I'm an *** and overwrote mine by accident before saving a copy of this original. Could someone post it please? (I don't need it really, just would like this post to be complete)

Anyway, I used Animation Shop 3 from Jasc Software (makers of Paint Shop Pro) to create the file.

Image size is 176x220. I used the original file and deleted all the frames except for the first one, which I just pasted over with my first image.

WARNING: As h4x0l2 mentioned, the length DOES matter. If the movie is too long, the phone bugs out. I didn't brick mine or anything, but it makes the phone take a long time to load up, and when it does it usually doesn't get service right away.

ALSO: Make SURE that you do NOT loop the animation in whatever program you use. It WILL screw your phone up, and possibly brick it.

I found that the size of the files does not matter. Only the length. I don't think that making it too short will screw the phone up, only because my customer_closing.gif file is only about 8k and is a single frame .gif file (no animation) and the phone shuts off fine. My intro animation is a bit more complex. Use the one I attached to this as a guide for how long it should be (works out to be about 1 or 2 seconds. Maybe less.

Here are the Opening and Closing (respectively) that I made.

Also, I can't seem to find a way to change the soft buttons or any of what the center button can select (down is calander? wtf?!). I'm assuming Verizon, in their infinite wisdom, disabled this? Can someone confirm this for me? If that is true, I think that should be the first thing on the list of things that need to get hacked next...

Happy Hacking guys.

Original Opening (remove .ORIGINAL)

Posted by: bobobear

I too successfully changed the startup and shutdown animated GIFs. I used a non-animated, 176x220 GIF image. I did the closing GIF first. I thought if the phone had a problem shutting down I could plug it back into the USB cable and put back the original "customer_closing.gif" file. After that went smoothly, I replaced the "customer_opening.gif" file. I almost had a heart attack when I unplugged it from the USB cable. The phone immediately went blank. All my other file replacements the phone stayed on. Of course I just wondered if I made a brick. Only thing to do is push the power button. Thankfully the phone turned on just fine. Better then fine. After my new GIF image was displayed the phone showed it was searching for the network. I just got my phone a couple days ago and I haven't been to a low signal strength area. So I never saw it searching for the network, because the animated GIF video took more time then the phone needed to acquire the network. Now I have the shortest possible startup time. Shutdown time has also been reduced, because I don't have to watch the closing animated GIF.

To MoldySpore, the original "customer_opening.gif" file size is 223,938 bytes.

Cool, thanks.

Yea, those opening and closing animations take up a good amount of room too. If you use a small single image gif file, it saves a lot of space. More space for ringtones on the internal memory.

I had to get a replacement to my older V3M, and now have this newer S/W version (24.1_01.19.07), and can no longer email ringtones to myself. If I understand this correctly, its because its now CDMA instead of GSM (whatever it is, I can't do what I could with my old phone).

I've never tried to edit a phone before, and would prefer not to brick it, but I'd really like to get in and move 'my sounds' to a place where I could use them as ringtones. How difficult would this be if I could get some direction from you guys? I don't have a data cable yet but will buy one if this isn't too hard for a newbie...I am comfortable with S/W but just have no experience with phone mods.

Thanks,
Chris

The v3m has always been CDMA. It's something that verizon blocked on the newer firmware. The only way that i can think of is to use P2KCommander or BitPim to put ringtones on your phone

I have the sounds on my phone. What I'm asking is how to manage those to get 'my sounds' to be able to be set as 'my ringtones'. In the older versions if you had an mp3 or aac or whatever extension you could apply it as a ringtone, the new fw doesn't allow that. I know there is some amount of software mod required, I believe deleting some folder structures or something like that. I just dont know what it is exactly or how hard it is, that's all Im asking.

You need to use P2KCommander to copy and paste the sounds files into the ringtone folder.

I talked to a support guy at Myxer.com and they finally got it to work now (I waited for months on this). Just use their service to get the ringtones. The only thing is you can't delete it once downloaded, any clue on this?

Posted by: MoldySpore

Bleh. Why use a service when it literally takes about 30 seconds with P2K and MU software?

1) Install drivers
2) Connect phone to computer w/ USB cord
3) Open Motorola Update Software and connect to phone
4) Open P2K, it will see the phone, choose the phone from drop down menu
5) Start transferring ringtones, pictures, etc in either direction

just make sure you are using the newest version of P2k. The older versions cause the uploads/downloads to and from the phone to fair at random intervals between 0 and 100%.

Ringtines can be any bitrate, including VBR, from my tests. Also the length doesn't matter, except for than ringtines only ring for about 25-30 seconds with Verizon before going to voicemail. So plan accordingly.

Seamless?

Thanks for the tips. With Moto Update and P2K adding my mp3's and pictures was seamless.
Sorry, couldn't help myself.
This was MUCH easier than seem editing, which I did with my last V3m. It stopped working, so I took it back. After adding my ringtones and pictures to that one, using Motorola Phone Tools after a seem hack, I restored the original seems. So as far as the MOTO guys were concerned, it was OK.
When I got my new one, I was NOT looking forward to seem editing and then using MPT to add pictures and ringtones.
So I was very happy to see how easy your method is, h4x0l2.
Thanks!

great thread guys. I'm sporting a V3m(now a v3mm) with this firmware (which I like a lot). I've got a few questions and a few comments about it to add.

1) Anyone having success getting this running with MPT? I can get it recognized as a V3mm but it will never connect, just gives the "Initializing . . . Please Wait. ." signal. I did get it to connect on another computer, so maybe that means the Seem and phone are in good order, just that the drivers and MPT are different on this computer.

2) Anyone able to reset the phone with this firmware? I guess Verizon doesn't trust us with the ability to clear our own phones. The Master Clear and Master Reset options are gone. I've searched a few forums and called Verizon about this and they told me to delete each one individually. Yeah all 400 contacts one at a time. I don't want to reflash without really needing to so was hoping someone has done this. I don't know how to erase contacts with p2k commander or BitPim but maybe that's an option as well.

3)Know what format we need for ringtones? I thought that any bit rate of mp3 would work, but I'm getting nothing with the several I uploaded. maybe I should keep looking for a good post about this.

4) I've had good success using p2k commander 4.9E, though it still has the errors and crashes some. At least it's reading the directories and copying things fine. I'm using p2kSeem(v710) for seem editing because it's more stable and designed for the CDMA phone and that is working fine. BUT:

5)Anyone have a listing of the Seem edits that are different for this dual-coded firmware? I saw a few of you referring to it, but haven't found a list of what is known to be different nor (even more helpful) a list of the changes needed.

thanks again for a great thread.

No,MFT hasn't worked in anything I've tried. Besides, it woudn't let you delete the system files necessary to get the ringtones working anyway.

Yea I haven't found it either. I don't think it is in there anymore.

Ringtones are mp3. They will work fine, any bitrate or length. just gotta put them in the right place and delete teh database files. Read the first page.

5)Anyone have a listing of the Seem edits that are different for this dual-coded firmware? I saw a few of you referring to it, but haven't found a list of what is known to be different nor (even more helpful) a list of the changes needed.

They are around I think. But it doesn't matter, since the purpose of the dual-coded seems on this version of the firmware is to make the seems uneditable (at least for now)

thanks again for a great thread.

Can anyone help me with my P2K problem. I am currently using V4.9.E with MSU running. P2K sees the phone connected but when I attempt to go to the directory I get a GENERIC FAILURE with Volume name Fail! I have tried all different options with pretty much the same results. I saw in another thread that 4.9.D might work better but for some reason it wont run on my machine. Any help would be much appreciated.

Posted by: thehumble1

I've been reading quite a bit recently about it and have found that P2K is designed for GSM programmed phones. You are using a CDMA phone (verizon) so it will always have this error because of the programming difference. P2K isn't as stable with CDMA phones, so I only use it for operations I can't use something else for, like file management. For seem editing and the like, I try to use other programs that are designed to work with CDMA phones.

so in short, it's normal. CDMA phones will always get this error, but it shouldn't be a problem. If you are having other problems running the program, focus on those. I'm using V4.9E with this same firmware. Hope this helps.

Posted by: Bronx Apostle

Thanks for the reply humble. The problem is I can't even do file management with this error. It just defaults to my desktop directory. Do you get a similar error when you run it? I have no problem running seems but that won't get me custom ringtones. Actually that is really all I need. If you know a better way to skin this cat I would appreciate it. I've spent quite a few hours on this and if I brick my wifes new phone she'll brick me. Thanks again.

Posted by: thehumble1

I surely haven't quite gotten the seem edits to work for MPT media to transfer, so I am using P2K commander to do it. I don't have the phone with me to run tests on, but I know I was able to explore the phone even with the errors. When this happens, are you able to select the phone system from the drop down boxes at the top of each pane? You will have to hit "Re-Read" for it to list the phone contents. You might get booted or the program might crash a few times before it works, but it should connect if you try a lot. click on the "/a p2k phone system" selection in the drop down and hit re-read. if that doesn't give you a listing of folders, then you might have another problem. I'm assuming you have something running to connect to the phone if you are getting the Volume Name Fail error.

The first several times I did this it either crashed the program or it just acted belligerent. It took 4-5 times for it to even read the folder. Yummy CDMA phone systems. post back with more.

Posted by: Bronx Apostle

Humble1 you are a God I guess I was doing everything right, just not again and again. Re-Reading did the trick. After 2 or three errors I kept trying diferent directories or settings. I guess I should have just kept banging my head against that wall. By the way I am using P2K Seem for the edits. Not always with the results that I expect but that's okay. Thanks again for all your help.

Posted by: thehumble1

The re-read step took me a while too. I can't complain about the software when its 1)free and 2) something I can't do another way.

I'm not a god. There are plenty of people that could help you, but the idea with a forum is that people who know share and people who don't ask. I'm glad I could help with this one so people with more experience could focus their time on more advanced problems (maybe mine, hint hint). Pay it forward, you know.

NICE job getting the kinks out!

1st off, thank you for all the info posted within these pages. it is a great help to all of us!
I recently got a v3m with the 24.1_01.19.07 firmware. After trying to edit the seems like the last v3m I had (without much success) I ran across this thread. It helped alot! I was able to get into it with P2K commander and loaded ringtones and changed the LCD pictures. I was also able to load skin's to it!

My problem is... I tried to send a txt message and it says that mem is full... I have 13 mb left in phone memory and another 500 on my TFcard. My inbox, sent folder and draft's are all empty! I do not understand why it thinks my mem is full. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

I had the same problem, but I didn't do any seem editing.

I fixed this by going in and changing the "auto erase" and "auto save" settings a couple times (go into messages, and choose the settings options) with the last change leaving them "on". Also, try using the "erase all" option in the options menu (inside messages menu).

Thank's alot! I looked at my wife's phone and hers had the same problem, and I have not touched it yet...But after changing the autosave as you mentioned fixed it!

Thank you all for the quick reply's.

...yep...that should work, it would re-set the seem/memory that is messed up back to th state it's supposed to be in...
