P.S. By the way I would love to run Linux haha, it would be faster and better in my opinion coming from a student majoring in Networking. |

I don't see EIMN? code anywhere on the phone (or is that only applicable for GSM networks) Is it possible to get this phone activated with another provider besides Amp'd? Thank you for your help. |

The copying ringtones works great with P2K Commander but the hacks I have found for Seem 2742, record 1, offset 7b don't seem to work. Thanks |

If the issue is "dual seems", couldn't you just edit both seems if you could find the other copy? But appearently not all of the seems work this way since when changing the model number seem, that change works (from V3m to V3mM). I am a software engineer so if anyone can provide some information of how you map the phone's memory to the various functions I can take a look around... |

I have a 2GB MicroSD card installed. I've tried numerous ways to get video onto my phone. - Using MPT, File transfer studio, the MMC(Removable) directory gives the error "Request denied by phone (Internal server error (0x50))". - In Bitpim (1.0.5), the folders my_flix, my_music, my_pix, my_sounds are empty and files uploaded to them do not show up on the phone. The folder mmc1 is empty. - arcconfig.ini was configured default to [Flix Settings] "Card Folder=fs:/card0/my_flix" - P2KCommander 3.2.6 and P2KCommander V4.9.E only shows three folders. - And strangely enough, when I pull the microSD card from my phone and use the adapter plus my card reader, Windows recognizes the card as unformatted and asks if I want to format. Put the card back into the phone and all my music/pictures are still there and function normally. Sooo.... Does the phone format the card in a different file system other than FAT/FAT32? I haven't done much testing yet, figured I'd ask first. The only way I've found to upload videos to the phone is to use MPT to upload to the video folder (Internal Phone Memory), then use the move option on the phone to copy it to the SD card. Obviously this is extremely limited by the phones internal memory size. |

After that went smoothly, I replaced the "customer_opening.gif" file. I almost had a heart attack when I unplugged it from the USB cable. The phone immediately went blank. All my other file replacements the phone stayed on. Of course I just wondered if I made a brick. Only thing to do is push the power button. Thankfully the phone turned on just fine. Better then fine. After my new GIF image was displayed the phone showed it was searching for the network. I just got my phone a couple days ago and I haven't been to a low signal strength area. So I never saw it searching for the network, because the animated GIF video took more time then the phone needed to acquire the network. Now I have the shortest possible startup time. Shutdown time has also been reduced, because I don't have to watch the closing animated GIF.
To MoldySpore, the original "customer_opening.gif" file size is 223,938 bytes. |

I've never tried to edit a phone before, and would prefer not to brick it, but I'd really like to get in and move 'my sounds' to a place where I could use them as ringtones. How difficult would this be if I could get some direction from you guys? I don't have a data cable yet but will buy one if this isn't too hard for a newbie...I am comfortable with S/W but just have no experience with phone mods. Thanks, Chris |

In the older versions if you had an mp3 or aac or whatever extension you could apply it as a ringtone, the new fw doesn't allow that. I know there is some amount of software mod required, I believe deleting some folder structures or something like that. I just dont know what it is exactly or how hard it is, that's all Im asking.

1) Anyone having success getting this running with MPT? I can get it recognized as a V3mm but it will never connect, just gives the "Initializing . . . Please Wait. ." signal. I did get it to connect on another computer, so maybe that means the Seem and phone are in good order, just that the drivers and MPT are different on this computer. No,MFT hasn't worked in anything I've tried. Besides, it woudn't let you delete the system files necessary to get the ringtones working anyway. 2) Anyone able to reset the phone with this firmware? I guess Verizon doesn't trust us with the ability to clear our own phones. The Master Clear and Master Reset options are gone. I've searched a few forums and called Verizon about this and they told me to delete each one individually. Yeah all 400 contacts one at a time. I don't want to reflash without really needing to so was hoping someone has done this. I don't know how to erase contacts with p2k commander or BitPim but maybe that's an option as well. Yea I haven't found it either. I don't think it is in there anymore. 3)Know what format we need for ringtones? I thought that any bit rate of mp3 would work, but I'm getting nothing with the several I uploaded. maybe I should keep looking for a good post about this. Ringtones are mp3. They will work fine, any bitrate or length. just gotta put them in the right place and delete teh database files. Read the first page. 5)Anyone have a listing of the Seem edits that are different for this dual-coded firmware? I saw a few of you referring to it, but haven't found a list of what is known to be different nor (even more helpful) a list of the changes needed. They are around I think. But it doesn't matter, since the purpose of the dual-coded seems on this version of the firmware is to make the seems uneditable (at least for now) thanks again for a great thread. |
Humble1 you are a God
I guess I was doing everything right, just not again and again. Re-Reading did the trick. After 2 or three errors I kept trying diferent directories or settings. I guess I should have just kept banging my head against that wall. By the way I am using P2K Seem for the edits. Not always with the results that I expect but that's okay. Thanks again for all your help.

I recently got a v3m with the 24.1_01.19.07 firmware. After trying to edit the seems like the last v3m I had (without much success) I ran across this thread. It helped alot! I was able to get into it with P2K commander and loaded ringtones and changed the LCD pictures. I was also able to load skin's to it! My problem is... I fixed this by going in and changing the "auto erase" and "auto save" settings a couple times (go into messages, and choose the settings options) with the last change leaving them "on". Also, try using the "erase all" option in the options menu (inside messages menu). |
