Problem transferring lyrics to iPhone...

Does transferring lyrics in songs to the iPhone require you to have the
"Manage my music manually" UNchecked?
For some reason, i got some lyrics transferred during one of my syncs, but now the lyrics do not seem to get transferred over to the iPhone (i can read them in iTunes though).... my "Manage music manually" setting is currently checked, and I am not sure if I should uncheck it (if this is the problem).
any help appreciated...thanks
