A couple of years ago, my bro got himself a good old 5135, and for many years, it has worked flawlessly.

However, recently, it began doing freegames - like searching for a signal endlessly and eventually falling into power saver, like it was in a place with zero coverage. That doesen't make any sense, he lives like a hundred feets from a Bell tower site.

And a few days ago, the crowning jewel - my bro turned on the phone, only to be greeted by a charming "SERVICE REQUIRED' message.

I assume that the phone needs to be reflashed with new firmware. However, since this is a rather old model, is it even still possible? If so, where should my bro head to get the problem fixed? And what about the costs? I'm trying hard to persuade him to just get a new phone... but stubborness runs in the family, and he loves his old 5135.
