why phone numbers dont have lines between theme?

hey guys, i have a question, in my contact list , phone numbers look like 7183874938, now, when someone calls me the phone number looks like 718-387-4938

and its much better when the phone number looks like that so my question is, why do the phone numbers look like 7183874938 on my contact list instead of 718-387-4938?

The only thing I can think of is that the - still represents a character. If you take out the - you probably can fit more numbers on a SIM

Basically for evey five numbers without dashes you could fit an extra phone number

It depends on the way you store and sync them.

For example, on Outlook and any WM I have, it's shown as (718) 387-4938.

Most likely these are the contacts and numbers that were read from your SIM card. Like JwY, I keep all of my contacts (2000) in Outlook and sync them with my WM device. In this case, they show up like (xxx) xxx-xxxx.

However, I noticed that when I go into my Contacts folder, all of the names and numbers I have stored on my SIM card (about 25) show up like XXXXXXXXXX. They are all at the beginning of my list (before the A's because they were originally set up as speed dials on a regular cell phone so before each name ther is a number.
