I got a Nokia 2610 for because the GSM carrier was bought out and I was required to get a phone to get a SIM card from them, but I want to be able to swap phones with a friend or sell it on ebay later on. Is there a way to unlock my phone, and if so, how?

Try this

#pw+1234567890+1# Provider Lock Status. (use the "*" button to obtain the "p,w" and "+" symbols) This is the lock most often used.

#pw+1234567890+2# Network Lock Status. (use the "*" button to obtain the "p,w" and "+" symbols)

#pw+1234567890+3# Country Lock Status. (use the "*" button to obtain the "p,w" and "+" symbols)

#pw+1234567890+4# Sim Card Lock Status. (use the "*" button to obtain the "p,w" and "+" symbols)

The first one worked for my older phones 1600 and 3410

hi, i have this nokia 2610 as well (t-mobile usa) and all i got on the screen is a message that says CONTACT SERVICE, doesn't let me do anything else, even when the charger is plugged, doesn't do anything when i think at least it should show the battery indicator showing that the baterry is being charged.

does this mean all i have is a "block"??

i was trying to unlock it but can't enter any codes

T-Mobile might fix this for you. If you want to "unlock" it, you need a profesional unlocker to fix this. It will cost about $40 to "unlock" and "unbrand" your 2610. Since a new 2610 is $40 and a referb'd 2610 is $10, I wouldn't do it.
