Sorry, I couldn't find an answer to this anywhere. Is there a way to check what programs are running? If so, is there a way to close programs? A friend told me holding the home button down closes programs but there doesn't seem to be a way to tell. It seems like all programs are always running in the background.

No way to tell, but yes, hold the home button down (usually a few seconds) until the home screen comes back to close apps. You can always turn the phone off then back on to clear all the programs from running. I've never had an issue with speed or memory, so I just let everything run....
