Noticed my phone 3G in Port Washington last night. Not sure where else was clicked on!

I live on the other side of the harbor from you in Glen Cove by the water near morgans park. I just checked my phone and yes I have "3G" but when I try to make a call it takes a bit to find a tower and when it does I am back to "E". If you look at the "Online Coverage Viewer" on the AT&T wireless website that was last updated 12/10/2007. Zoom into your area by zip code, and then click on the "show 3G" you will see that most of the Shore line in CT has 3G turned on. I'll bet you are getting a signal from there, but when you init a call the "Better" cell tower is used which would be here on Long Island which in out area has not switched over to 3G yet. Thus when I make a call I get bounced back to GSM. If I walk to the other side of my house away from the side that is closer to the CT. I get "E" = GSM, So at this time I hate to bust your bubble its a 3G signal you are getting from a CT tower.

I too would like to see 3G turned on for real here in Nassau County, I dont know why we are the ones in between NYC and Western Suffolk that has no 3G service. Whats up with that???

Update: if you look at the thread here on hofo about 3G coverage maps, that persone has mashed up some more up to date maps and it does look like something is painted blue on the north shore but I still belive that its from CT.

This reminds me of when Cingular was using T-Mobile 1900mhz cell towers on all of Long Island and I would get a stray signal from Cingulars 800mhz cell tower from CT. when I was down by the water. But when I tried to call I get pushed back to a more closer 1900mhz T-Mo tower here on the Island...

The entire 3G rollout has appeared to make little to no sense. One would think the major areas full of people that commute to and from NYC from the island, the lower hudson valley and north Jersey would have 3G running.

They are testing at night this week from what I understand. Full time launch should be next week. There are a couple of hiccups to be worked out.

Nothing in the Oyster Bay area. Hell, there's not even cell reception there.

And we in the Huntington Bay, CSH area are still gettin screwed on 3G.

Yeah, not much in the old brookville 106/107 area also. tons of NIMBY people out there...

anyone know the status on the 3g light up here in old brookvile?

I work in Great neck, and I always remembered it being EDGE.

Now I'm getting 3G, with a 850-900 kbps downstream.

I think its gone for now untill they make improvments or wait 2/8/2008 when the "TDMA" service is to be cut off for real as per the FCC I think???

You're telling me...I'm in Rockland (just north of Westchester, over the T-Z bridge) and I'm dying for 3G because edge is killing me...all my friends with their damn ev-do verizon/sprint phones are always rubbing it in...I hope they flip the switch sometime in the next few months, otherwise I think im going to kill my data plan and just rely on wifi...because $40 for edge is kinda pointless for me :-/

Looks like 3G is up and running in Nassau. Had a connection today for my whole train ride and now its working at my house

Posted by: dkhomdds

well looks like more places in Nassau county has 3G today. In the middle of Levittown there is 3G right now. Its about time!!!

3G is lit up and burning bright ..... I live in Oceanside and work in Mineola. Got strong 3G in both and on the whole ride in between. I never thought it would happen!

AT&T updated the maps to 1/31/2008 and if you type in my zip code 11579, look at whats around me!!! 3g and I'm sitting in a dead zone!!! That would explain why my phone jumps around from 3g to E to 3g to E all day long, They did'nt turn it on in my town!!! and a few others looks like swiss cheese!!!

Tappan NY (right on the border of bergen NJ) just got turned on 3G and some H spots...right when I get to orangeburg NY, it goes back to edge :-( its about 5-6 miles from hitting my house....so close!

Really wouldn't have expected that area to get it first around here. Still good news though.

I'm out here in Suffolk still waiting. Anyone know what the plans are for a rollout in the Suffolk area? I'm virtually surrounded by 3G (Nasssau to the west, Hamptons to the east, and CT coast to the north).

I've also noticed some wonky behavior with the data connection on my phone. It's dropped data connections for a few minutes or dropped down to GPRS. I've never seen this before. Could this be an indication they are working on it?

I too have noticed the data dropouts while at home in Centereach and on the Expressway while in to work (Manhattan). If anyone has any info on 3g expansion out here in Suffolk it would be appreciated.

Stupid iPhone, no 3G. I need to get myself the Vu or an N95. Anyways, according to the map, it looks like my area finally has it(Plainview). Funny that its available in Suffolk all along the Hamptons but everyone else is shunned.

Doesn't surprise me, I suppose rich people get the white glove treatment. That, or some AT&T executive has a house in the Hamptons. After all, Suffolk County is just flyover country for all the rich yuppies.
