Hi guys, would like some help in choosing Sony Ericsson phone. The things I'm looking for are as follows:

1) Good multimedia player
2) Decent camera (so atleast 2 megapixels)
3) Either candybar style or slider, no flips
4) Good Lookin'

I will be using it with Fido service. Have about $400 total to spend. Thanks for the recommendations.

W610i?

1)Walkman 2.0
2)2mp autofocus
3)candybar
4)i find it nice to look at, keys could be a problem for you.

It's pretty nice. I was wondering how is the K810i?

The k810 is very nice, it has a good media player, a plain version of the walkman player, camera is the same as my k790a, it takes amazing pictures, and it's really nice to look at. the only reason i didn't get it is because i'm just more comfortable having 850mhz, and the k810i is only 900/1800/1900.

It will be a pretty hard decision for me to choose. I will also like to see and feel the phone before buying. I don't mind buying online, but I want to see what it is like first. Do you know any stores in toronto?

Posted by: colin!

Well, I dont live in toronto, so im not totally sure, but pacific mall probably has some. steeles and kennedy i think.

Also, it should work fine with Fido right? the Motorola E6 gave me a bunch of problems. It wouldn't ring when someone called because it doesn't recognize name display which didn't give a signal for the phone to ring.

White K550 can't compare with the K810 stats but I think it has the looks. W810 is a nice solid phone though.

A 2+ megapixel camera is good enough for my needs, which most phones have nowadays. looking more towards looks and music player.

Yeah, it should work, besides, if the name display feature was deactivated on your account because of your e6, it won't be there to mess up your k810.

That is true. I will go take a look at pacific mall soon and look at the phones there. But I've always wondered if they are trusty or not.

I would aim more for the W series phones if those are your needs. W810i is an awesome phone, great camera, dedicated MP3 player, solid phone, great reception, great battery, overall probably one of the best SE has put out in a long time.

For phones? yeah, loads of people buy their phones from there. DVDs, not so much

Agreed. And if you do the camera mod(look in the SE mod section), the pictures turn out amazing.

Just wonder, with the W810i are you able to use MP3's to personalize message alerts for people in your contact list? Not able to so with my current phone and it bugs the @#$% out of me. Thanks!

Posted by: cta16

Do you mean a different ringtone for each contact? I'm not sure if it's possible for a message(sms) alert as I do not have a w810 but it is definitely possible to assign a different ringtone for each contact for when they call you.

Posted by: Heavy Fluid

Yes, and no. You can use one message tone, as long as the phone is debranded, of any length. If it is Rogers branded, you will run into DRM protection problems, and if it is AT&T/Cingular branded, there are size restrictions on the ringtones. If it is unbranded, you can use whatever mp3 you want for the message tone.

thanks for the response knew I was hoping for too much for each contact to have their own sms tone. Am glad to hear that we can use a MP3 as a SMS tone though. I hate that with the Samsung that I am currently using. Have to select one of their useless tones. Yuck!

BTW I am looking to get a unbranded SE phone. Thanks again for the info!!!

I think a good phone is W610i. My dad has one and it's very nice in deed and in functions is also good. I like it very much. On www.gsmpress.com is a big variety of phones and good prices.

I'd go for the S500i for the simple reason you can pick up a new one for $216 from CTI-Miami. While some still have the cracking keypad issue I certainly have heard less reports of such with new models.

W810i is more durable than the S500i/W580i. It is also still cheaper, and then you can spend the money you saved on a bigger memory card.

But then there's the looks factor and the W810 is one ugly azz phone. IMO of course.

While looks matter, the W810i is a solid phone, and in the end, that is what really matters.
