trying shouldn't hurt you as it doesn't touch the baseband(i.e. it will leave you with the 1.1.2 baseband so WORST case scenario you go back to 1.1.2 firmware)

I will say as a disclaimer that I am not responsible if you do not follow the steps correctly and "accidentally" upgrade your baseband.

The thing is, I have read in other threads that after you upgrade to 1.1.3, downgrading is possible, but when you downgrade to 1.1.2, you lose you phone functions and can really only jailbreak it to use it as an iPod Touch... and the only way to restore your phone function is to restore to 1.1.3... is that still true?

Yea but ur gonna want to put 1.1.3 on anyway, so phone should work after u upgrade to 1.1.3

I heard Google Maps locate doesn't work w/ this jailbreak...

what you have hear is in regards to a FULL upgrade to 1.1.3 the "soft" upgrade is different. the problems you heard about 1.1.3 are entirely true when talking about the full upgrade(the problem stems from the baseband not being compatible with other firmwares). the soft upgrade doesn't touch the baseband so you are left with the 1.1.2 baseband. this also means that you can downgrade your firmware back to 1.1.2 and have a "stock" 1.1.2 phone.

full upgrade = 1.1.3 + 4.03 baseband
-4.03 baseband will not function with other firmwares
-downgrading just the firmware willl result in no phone functions
-need to downgrade baseband(need 3.9 BL) to get phone functions back

soft upgrade = ONLY 1.1.3 firmware installed, no baseband
-baseband stays at whatever it was prior to you running soft upgrade(4.02 if you are already on 1.1.2)
-can downgrade firmware back to 1.1.2 resulting in 1.1.2 + 4.02 which = a functioning phone(assuming proper activation/account or suitable workaround)

I heard Google Maps locate doesn't work w/ this jailbreak...

except he's using a stealthsim so he DOESN'T want the full upgrade at this time.

you're point is valid about google maps though. locate me won't work as it needs the 4.03 baseband.

this upgrade will give you multiple sms and re-arrangeable icons.

Ok, so if I have 1.1.3 right now... I'll have to downgrade to 1.1.1, then jailbreak and upgrade to 1.1.2. Then upgrade to 1.1.3. If I do this, will Google Maps stop working? IF so, anyway to get it working?
