Have you been able to "push" Hotmail E-mail to your BJ2

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: jyalexop2003

I installed the Xpress Mail utility on my BJ2 linking to Hotmail
but email just doesn't get 'pushed' to my BJ2. I need to manually
to go to Messaging, select/run Hotamil and then manually select send/receive.

I also tried to simply select the 'New Email Account' under Messaging
and chose to have the settings automatically configured from Internet but
still no luck.

Can Hotmail not be pushed to the BJ2 (because of POP3 issues).
People are pushing emails with Yahoo and Gmail accounts!

use windows mobile is free and better than xpres

What do you mean? Please provide steps top do this.

Do you mean to simply go the web site (i.e. Windows Mobile bookmark) via Medianet? This does not 'push'.

I do not want manual retrieval but have my hotmail email automatically 'pushed'
to my BJ2.

How are you setting up your hotmail, are you selecting it from the list of available services? Are you setting it up manually entering all of your settings?

Does it every push then stop working?

i think he meant windows live

I did it 2 ways on my BJ2.
Firstly, I ran XpressMail, which bagan downloading, etc. It then reset the phone, I chose an ISP. then hotmail, with username/passwork, etc.
It never asked me anything about push settings.
It appears as though it worked and I saw the hotmail icon under Messaging, but I had to manually send/receive. It never did 'push' any emails.

I removed the application (with the 'Remove Program' application) and then secondly tried the 'New Email Account' under Messaging.
I put in my ***@msn.com email address and then chose the ISP and then chose the 'automatically find settings from the internet' option. A link came up to the windows Live site, but that's it.
A friend has Gmail and it work seamlessly using this second method.

Does Hotmail allow for POP3 email??

This is frustrating to have a Microsft email app not work seamlessly on
a Windows Mobile device.

POP3 access to Hotmail is an extra cost feature.

Gmail has IMAP support now.

So the new Windowls Live Hotmail file is downloaded and installed on the
phone?

When i go on mobile internet there is a bookmark for mobile.live.
The site has the option to chose hotmail and I can get my email that way
but manually.

I'm still not sure where you see/set options to have the email 'pushed' to
your phone. I thought all this was done via Xpress Mail or by creating a new email account under the Messaging menu.

Download the latest Windows Live cab from here:

Windows Live Cab File

Once you install that file, run the app and the first option will by to sign in, just scroll to select and run through the setup wizard. This will also add your msn account to your email and you specify to the schedule to "As Items Arrive"

In the second last page of that thread you posted, someone posted a Smartphone version of cab file there. I tried it and it works on my BJ1.

This version works well on the BJ2.
But i can not get it to show up on the home screen...any solution?

Posted by: Foxbat121

BJ1/BJ2 is Smartphone device. You can't magically add anything to the home screen. That's why the home screen settings in WLM are all disabled. You have to find out home screen plugin GUID of WLM if there is any for Smartphone and edit your home screen xml files to place them there.

Posted by: flyboy009

You have to check the options in the Windows Live setup. But depending on the home screen you use, it may or may not work. If you are using a custom home screen then it will push the other plugins down and the screen will look like crap!

Has anyone been able to setup Hotmail Inbox (like op stated in #1 post)? I want to have a inbox for Hotmail in the same place as my POP3 and other Inbox are. Meaning, push the mail button...have all my emails accounts including my hotmail. I was able to do this with Xpress and disable the push.

i see nothing but a website for my windows live..

Posted by: Foxbat121

If you install the Windows Live cab file mentioned here, it will do what you wanted. However, after tried the Windows Live Mobile for a while, I took it out of my phone. The reason: WLM is a resource hog. It slows down my BJ1 a lot and use a lot of battery juice.

Posted by: Foxbat121

Windows Live Mobile is now officially released and downloadable from http://wl.windowsmobile.com. This official release version does not contain Windows Live Messenger.

Posted by: HighLife

I got it for my hotmail and it works great...much better then that stupid Xpress mail push for Hotmail

Is this simply installed as an app on the phone, like Live Search or Google Maps
that you open in Start menu?

Does it create an email account on the phone's Messaging screen?

I simply want to click on the messaging button
(bottom right) and see my hotmail account and then be able to manually send/receive emails.

Currently, I access the web and then go to mobile.live.com and select hotmail. It is nicely formatted for the screen as well. I would, however,
prefer the quicker method mentioned above.

Posted by: Foxbat121

By default, it is set to manual sync. Just try it yourself. No harm to your phone.

Juts installed and works fine, both manual and sync.
Finally I can get my hotmail pushed to my phone (if I chose)
without having to use Xpress Mail.

Also found the 'viigo' app as well. A nice little app for all info
(getviigo.com from device browser).
Coupled with Live Search and Google Maps, and LEDAlerts, I'm set top go now.

OK downloaded the new Windows Live
(wl.windowsmobile.com) and it appears to have installed correctly
with hotmail now one of the email options in messaging (bottom right button).
I set up the sync schedule for "As Items Arrive" and "Always",
but the email is not being 'pushed'. I still have to manually send/receive.

Posted by: Foxbat121

Believe me, they are 'pushed'. It may not be as quick as you wanted it to. And it burns down battery quick too. I'm actually using it to condition my new battery

I used the leaked version before. The new one is slightly faster but both are very slow to connect and retrieve mails.

The data is active (i see 3G above the 4 signal bars)
and sent an email from work email to hotmail. It has been 5 minutes and
no push notification yet.
Settings are "As Items Arrive" and "Always".

Whazzuppp!

Sorry, but it did work. I got the email pushed to my BJ2 in 6 minutes.

Emails sent from your workplace may not arrive immediately to the destination. You should use desktop Live website to track it.

You can also use Seven's beta software. Seven is the developer of Xpress Mail. It is their old software. their new software is really really awesome. It's the best for push email of any gmail, yahoo, hotmail, IMAP or POP3 email. It'll even do exchange connectivity via OWA.

http://community.seven.com/forum/index.php?forum=true

Click on the download link at the top of the page, send the software to your phone, and install. It works with WM standard and pro. You can thank me later

I simply don't buy the story. Current XPressMail relies on a desktop client to 'push' the emails to your phone. I know for certain email accounts, you don't need the client. But for most part, the XpressMail or whatever 3rd part solution can't actively get your mail to push without a piece of software resides on the mail server itself. So, what they typically do is poll your mail server so frequently (but can't be too frequent, otherwise the mail server admin won't like it) to see if you have mail. This is not true push mail.

OK, that's up to you. But in practice, you will find that the email will be sent to your phone within 10 seconds generally (much less usually). So, how often they are polling or how they are getting it done, I can't say for certain, they may be able to explain it better themselves (which one of the admins on the forum does).

BTW, the software is free and uninstalls very cleanly. So, you can try it without any risks, other than your own time.

Seven's new software DOES NOT need to install any software on a desktop or on the server for any web-accessible IMAP, POP3, or OWA accounts. They actually have special setups for Hotmail, Yahoo, and GMail accounts to get the mail from their servers, BTW. Nor does the new software use SMS messaging in any way to assist with the pushing as XpressMail did previously.

I'm just saying, it really is awesome IMO (and others who use it), its free, and it rivals Blackberry in terms of delivery of messaging.

Also, forgot to mention, it doesn't convert all your messages to simple text. It'll push them down as HTML if that's how they arrived.

Posted by: jomo25

BTW, I did get some add'l info on the "push" nature of Seven. For Hotmail, GMail, and Yahoo, it is as close to push as possible. Seven's server gets a notification from those providers that new email is available, and then it forces a pull from your phone to your provider of that new message. So, its a sort of "forced push" and will generally result in emails sync'd in seconds, not minutes.

For other POP3 accounts (other providers), it is a poll every 5 minutes, then it initiates the pull from your phone. So in those case, you should get email within 5-6 minutes at worst.

See this thread for explanation from the Seven forum admin: http://community.seven.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1232

I downloaded the Windows Live Mobile version that was released on
or around 4/8 from wl.windowsmobile.com immediately after reading about it on
http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/w...w_availabl.html.
A very easy install and now i get push email instantly after choosing
the "as items arrive" option in the Sync Schedule.

Is it legal for me to redistribute a Microsoft application on-line??

Posted by: eph

I am not sure if there are any legal issues. You could possibly email to me if you would not like to post it publicly?
