Gmail and IMAP

This morning i switched to IMAP finally and i've been messing around and i ran into a problem that i can't seem to remedy and it is quite frustrating.

It seems that when i receive a message, i'll get it on Outlook but it won't show up on my iphone at all no matter how many times i hit manually receive.

Also, it's not syncing my folders well at all. If i create a draft on google mail using the online interface it won't show up on my iphone when i refresh the drafts folder but it will on Outlook.

That's what puzzles me. I wasn't sure if that's how IMAP is and there's a tiny delay but it's working on Outlook just not on my iphone. I have 1.1.1 jailbroken and i tried both edge and wi-fi.

Also, another thing: do you guys have the automatic check setting enabled? I was reading somewhere about not needing it enabled? I'm new to IMAP just trying to get a little more information on it all!

Toss out some good news guys!

Do you still have Outlook checking as POP? It could be something in Outlook is pulling the message off of the server. When you log into the web interface, does the mail show up there? As for the automatic checking, you need it if you want new messages to show up. Gmail on the iPhone is not push.

Make sure outlook is set to leave the message on the server.

don't think it has anything to do with outlook. My friend sent me a test message I have not received on my iPhone but on m.google.com it shows I have a new email at 2:59pm, it is now 7:58pm and its still not on my iPhone no matter how many times I check

Well.. don't know what to say, It works great for me. Most of the time my phone gets it before my gmail notifier pops up...

That is odd. Sounds like some sync issue between the iPhone and Gmail. If you have the time, I'd try restoring the iPhone and then setup your Gmail account before you let the iPhone sync your data back. That should tell you something.

Before you go throught he trouble of retoring iPhone I would delete the gmail account off the iPhone, reboot the phone and then reenter the gmail account. May just be a hiccup somewhere. Then see how that goes. Also, I would not count out Outlook messing this up. It is microsoft after all. I would check the setting there as well to make sure it is not deleting anything off server. But if it is still in your gmail account onnline that is probably not it now that I think about it. But try re-entering it on to your iPhone first then restore after that. I have not heard of this problem as of yet.

I was going to recommend deleting the account first too, but as I've noticed in the past, it doesn't really get totally deleted. The messages will come back up again since they must be stored in some cache somewhere.

Maybe I am missing something but the messages should come back up, that is the point of IMAP. They are not necessarily cached but rather just synced up with the mail account. It downloads very quickly once re-established so maybe you did not realize that it was re-downloaded since it happened quickly once the mail app was started up.

I have actually deleted and added the act... I'm going to try one more time then I guess I'll go for the restore!

I didn't say they were pulled down again, they were cached somehow. They were still there before the account re-sync'd with the server again.

Did you enable IMAP on gmail?

Is outlook using POP or IMAP?
- If your answer is pop, make sure gmail is setup to save a copy of the message in gmail.
- Also make sure outlook is set to leave a copy of message on server

Try removing and re-adding your gmail account to the iphone.

are you manualy setting up gmail or just clucking the gmail button in mail? If you are just clicking the gmail button that is why. Unless you are on 1.1.3 you have to manually set up gmail on the iPhone because it still has the pop settings on 1.1.1

Ok, Update.

I did a fresh restore and update to 1.1.3. I setup Gmail IMAP and sent some test messages. For some odd reason, i am always one email behind. If i send one message saying "Hi," i won't get it on my iphone but if i send another message "Hi2," then i'll get the first Hi but not the Hi2. I'm very confused. Outlook is not involved in any of this i do not have it open or anything i can verify online at gmail.com that everything is there and new.

Also, there is 1 draft in my draft folder on gmail.com but it will not show up in my iphone. I have the draft folder set to "Drafts" "On the Server." Any ideas? I feel like my Gmail account is the one that's messed up

*Edit* I just created a new gmail account, enabled IMAP, deleted my old account on my phone, added the new one and sent some test messages to it and they came instantly. This puzzles me.

There are some serious problems with Gmail IMAP right now for some accounts so you are not the only person having trouble.

I get absolutely no mail delivered to the iphone gmail IMAP inbox but the rest of the folders work properly. This has only been happening for past week or so and is account issue with a number of the gmail accounts, but not all apparently. It also seems like there is not just one type of issue, lots of symptoms are manifesting.

Very frustrating. Someone really dropped the ball at Google and they are not very prompt at fixing their problems.
