Kyocera 6035 text messaging?

Hey guys,
Do you remember if the Sprint version can directly text message w/o needing to sign onto the "wireless web"? I think this phone can do that, when back then most other sprint phones SMS'ed through the wireless web only.
Any help would be appreciated.
