Is there a way to turn off the shutter sound on a Z6m?

Posted by: stund

Yes. You would have to do a seem edited. (Well, I know it was possible with my v9m, so I am guessing that it is also possible with the z6m).

Look in seem 2742_0001 and there should be a option in one of the many different bits to have "none" as a option in shutter tone.

What's a "seem edit"?

Its where you can edit settings within your phone which your carrier has locked out in the phone settings.

Oh. Well I have my SPC code, I can get into my programming menu, and I can access my phone's filesystem. However, when I try to copy file(s) to my computer for editing, they open as blank and copy as 0 bytes. I use QPST ... Any guidance as to how I should proceed? I looked around the programming menu, nothing much there except my SPC code. Thanks!

I used BitPim to transfer files from my phone to my computer and the same thing happened.. it would copy over with 0 bytes. The only way it would work is if I had the memory card in the phone.

But you don't need to copy files over to edit seems, nor does your SPC code have anything to do with it.

Download P2K Commander, P2K Seem Editor, and the nessessary usb drivers. Start Motorola Software Update (MSU) and plug your phone into your computer. Once MSU recognizes your phone, start up P2K and and select Mobile from the pull down menu, then click "Re-Read". Then it should load up the file system of your phone.

From there click Seem, then Old Dialog. For Number (hex) put 2742, and for Record (hex) put 0001. Click read and save to file. Start P2k Seem (or any other seem editor you have) and load the seem 2742_0001.seem which you saved into the program.

You'll find some option to have "None" as a choice for camera shutter tone. Save it. Then go back to P2k Commander, Go to old dialog, enter in 2742_0001 and click Load and save to phone. Restart your phone and it should be an option within the camera shutter tone settings.

There are plenty of more detailed guides on the internet which you can follow if a problem occurs.

I cannot see the option "Mobile". I clicked each option, and I do not see "seem" or "old dialog".

its right beside the file menu option. I can see it in your image you posted

file, seem, options, help

be very careful what changes you make as you can make your phone inoperative if you change the wrong thing.

So I couldn't find "Mobile", but I typed the #s and clicked Save. Then P2K just freezes.

You cannot use any of the other P2K programs to communicate with your phone except for P2K Commander. You use the P2KSeem program to modify your seem but the uploading and downloading to your phone can only be done in P2K Commander. I've modified the above procedure because it was little confusing. Try this procedure and let me know how you make out.

Download P2K Commander, P2K Seem Editor, and the nessessary usb drivers. Start Motorola Software Update (MSU) and plug your phone into your computer. Once MSU recognizes your phone, start up "P2K Commander" and on the top right hand drop down select "/a P2K Phone system" , then click "Re-Read". Then it should load up the file system of your phone.

From there click on the "Seem" menu at the very top, then "Old Dialog". For Number (hex) put 2742, and for Record (hex) put 0001. Click read and save to file.

Do not close but minimize "P2K Commander",

Get the program P2KSeem4V710 (from marks cdma forums) that one is taylored for cdma phones. After that Start P2kSeem (or any other seem editor you have) and load the seem 2742_0001.seem which you saved in the step above.

You'll find some option to have "None" as a choice for camera shutter tone. Save it. Then go back to P2k Commander, Go to old dialog, enter in 2742_0001 and click Load and save to phone. Restart your phone and it should be an option within the camera shutter tone settings.

actually I just did it and I now have the option to turn off the shutter noise. Just follow the above procedure

Posted by: fred2028

My P2K always freezes when I click /a. Where did you get yours?

Posted by: D0T-C0M

I'm using the same one as you. Are you starting MSU and is it detecting your phone? MSU must be running and have had detected your phone before P2K Commander v4.9e will work.

Posted by: D0T-C0M

ah maybe you never changed the options in P2KCommander. I forgot to mention that.

So click on the "options" menu . In the popup that comes up the only things that should be checked is,

" Use P2k05 commands (override autodetect) (V3xx, V6MAXX, E2...) " and
" Safe )slow) 3G-P2k commands )A1000, V980...) "

everything else is not selected

Posted by: fred2028

So gay. When I click OK it freezes too.

Posted by: D0T-C0M

In what program are you pressing OK in?

Shut everything down, disconnect phone
open P2K Commander
go to options check only the two options I mention earlier. press OK
close P2K Commander
connect phone, wait 20 seconds
start MSU and wait till phone is detected then minimize program
start P2K Commander (not P2KSeem) go to the right hand drop down, select /a and press re-read
after the read is done click on the menu "seems" then "old dialog" than input the proper seems values humber and record mentioned earlier, then click READ and save to file. Minimize P2K Commander
Open P2KSeem and click "load from file" and select the file you saved above.
once the file is open click somewhere in the field where all the numbers are and use your arrow key to cycle through them all until you file the one that will give you the shutter "none" option . I think its near the 5 or 6 row of number.

after you find it click "save to file" . you might have to rename the file so that its the same as the original one.

close P2KSeem
maximize P2K Commander and click the seem menu than "old dialog" than "load from file and WRITE"
close everthing and restart phone and voila you should now have the option to turn your shutter noise to "none"

Posted by: fred2028

Never mind got that. In P2KSeem, where do I type 2472_0001?

Posted by: fred2028

Wait. Got it thanks, working on it, brb

Posted by: fred2028

I got upload seem failed in P2K comander ...

Posted by: D0T-C0M

you havent read your /a first follow the steps step by step. In the image above I can see that your p2k Commander isn't set to /a

Posted by: fred2028

OK so I can edit the seem but when I click Load and write and then I click my edited 2472_0001.seem it doesn't load and "Upload seem: Failed!" error occurs.

Posted by: fred2028

Oh that image was different. This time I've successfully gotten the seem file and edited it, I just cant load it back on

Posted by: D0T-C0M

ok so you edited it in p2kSeem, did you save it by clicking "save to file"? where did the seem file save to? the file name might have changed. Did you notice?

once you have edited it and saved it. take note of the filename and now open p2k Commander and click on seem and old dialog then just click on "load from file and WRITE" after which you will e prompted to select the file which you just edited and saved. select the file that you saved. if it worked then your done, restart phone and turn off shutter noise

Posted by: fred2028

I saved my file to desktop. I edited it, then renamed it to 2472_0001.seem. Opened P2K Commander, Seem > Old Dialog, clicked Load from and Write, chose my file, and the error
Quote:
Upload failed.
0000000H

Posted by: D0T-C0M

did you close p2k Commander when you were editing the file? If not then I don't know why you are getting this error unless its a vista thing.

You can try starting over with the steps again , closing all your programs , disconnect your phone and go through the steps and when you get to the step to read your seem file in p2k Commander , you can load and write instead because you already have the updated seem.

sorry: thought maybe phones would be same, but each carrier has to change something from stock phone set up to work on there system.

Posted by: D0T-C0M

well I did the mod and I now have the option to turn the shutter noise to "none" when before it was not there. Its pretty stupid for a provider to turn this option off IMO especially when I was able to turn it off.

On a side note I did talk with someone who said that the mod that I talk about here does not work for all service providers. Apparantly for those that it does not work for you have to manually turn the shutter noise to off in seem 275a but I didn't get into what needed to be modded. I'm crossing my fingers that the OP here will have success with my mod.

Posted by: D0T-C0M

so fred how did you make out??

Posted by: stund

If it still isn't working.. following this guide:

http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V9M-P2KC.htm

Do everything the way it says at it will not work if you do it any other.

Then navigate to;
http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V9M-Seem.htm

And follow that for editing seems once you have successfully configured P2K commader to work accordingly.

Posted by: sk8wild2000

hey what were the two options you said to check earlier ?

Posted by: aznlefty

hey fred,

did you end up figuring it out? i tried to do the edits myself but it gave me the same error as you... something about upload failed, 0000000H

Cheers.

OK... Nevermind I got it to work.

First I had to make sure in P2KSeem: Bytes(h) = 0000, Seem = 2742, Record = 0001. Now, load seem file that was saved by P2KCommander by clicking "Load from file" in P2KSeem. Edit bits for option you want and save edited seem file.

Now back in P2KCommander, making sure that /a Mobile phone is still selected on the right hand file directory.

Goto Seem >> Old Dialog. Enter: Number (hex) = 2742 and Record (hex) = 0001

Now press the Load from File button... and you should be good to go.

This is what I did with my Bell Moto Z6M.

Cheers.

Oh yeah: Not sure if this had anything to do with it, but I put my P2KCommander files in my root directory. ie. C:\P2KCommander\
I read somewhere that P2KCommander doesn't like blank spaces in its file folders/directories (ie. C:\Program Files\P2KCommander = not good).
