Who is the master at jailbreaking? (Regarding 1.1.3)

First let me say sorry for the long read, but trying to be as thorough as possible in my explanation.

So I’m an AT&T customer and I previously had a 1.1.2 OTB iPhone and was able to jailbreak it no problem and had all the fun of a jailbroke iPhone.

I then sold that phone to a friend and then bought a brand new iPhone with an OTB 1.1.2 firmware. I figured the 1.1.3 jailbreak would be out soon enough, so I wanted to try out the new firmware features on a non jailbroke phone. So I upgraded from an OTB 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 no problem, and kept it unjailbroke until last weekend. I decided the features offered by this new firmware were not good enough so wanted to jailbreak my 1.1.3 phone.

So I set out trying to jailbreak, I downgraded the firmware with the shift/ok to 1.1.1 but then started getting the sim error message continuously and was unable to upgrade back to 1.1.3 So after about 24 hours of not stop continous loop, I took the phone back and exchanged for a new iPhone.

So now I have a new iPhone, OTB 1.1.2 and upgraded to 1.1.3

What I’m wondering, is there step by step instructions to downgrade & which programs are needed from beginning to end? In one central location? I am doing this on a windows PC with Vista.

There seems to be about 400 different tutorials that have some similarities and some differences, some say to go to 1.1.2, some say to go to 1.1.2 then 1.1.1, some say to downgrade the baseband? Some say you can do the jailbreak but then the phone will not work as a phone. So I’m absolutely confused at this point as to where to go for step by step instructions. Etc…

Info on my phone if it helps is:

It was an OTB new 1.1.2 and I upgraded to 1.1.3 and have not done anything to it.

Version – 1.1.3 (4A93)

If there’s other info you need to help me let me know.

I know the first response is always “use the search” which I have and unfortunately there’s so many different versions and types/ways to jailbreak/unlock etc.. and not even sure if it can be done as I’ve read some places you can “jailbreak” but then the phone won’t work.

Thanks for any help.

Had you left it at 1.1.2 it would have been a bit easier to guide you through jailbroken 1.1.3.

What you need to do is downgrade it to 1.1.2, jailbreak it, install BSD and run Nate's 1.1.3 JB iBrickr. You should end up with a jailbroken 1.1.3 AND the new basebad, which will allow you to use the new google maps feature without aditional software.

DO NOT downgrade to 1.1.1!
DO NOT attempt to downgrade you baseband!
Just follow those very simple steps and you should have results.
You might have to replace the lockdown file if you experience service issues, however explanations and guides are all over this sub-forum.

If you are about to ask me what BSD is and where to find it, I'd suggest not attempting to "hack" your phone.....nothing personal.

Good Luck

Hey Phreak,

Here's where my concern comes in.

Going off of this tutorial: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1316370

It says to downgrade 1.1.3 to reference their walkthrough here: http://www.modiphone.net/guide-down...1-the-easy-way/

They also have a new walk through: http://www.modiphone.net/official-1...x-on-installer/

Which says to downgrade to 1.1.1

I know you said do NOT downgrade to 1.1.1 but go to 1.1.2 and what I'm wondering, will this have teh same affect as their tutorial where it says your phone will not work then?

And is there 1 universal page that has all the steps/software/downloads you need on one page?

Thanks for the info so far btw.

You cant jailbreak an OTB 113 from what I understand. Even if you could you would have to downgrade to 111, install oktoprep and go to 112, then go thru the 113 jailbreak. If 112 had a standalone jailbreak you could skip 111, but it doesn't so...

When 114 comes out you'll have to go to downgrade to 111 and jailbreak and oktoprep, then go to 112 and jailbreak, then go to 113, then go to 114 (whatever that'll entail) I'm sure. 102 was so easy in comparison! This entire process is why I cried no tears when I broke my 102 and switched to AT$T, the process gets more and more convoluted as new firmware is released. Soon it'll be an 8 hour process just to jailbreak (2 hours now!) and I can't waste that kind of time anymore.

Wow. Ok thanks Xander. Hence here's where all my confusion comes from. Phreak says you can and it's a few simple steps and to just downgrade to 1.1.2 and you and everywhere else I've read says you have to go to 1.1.1

"I'm so confused..." (John Travolta voice from Welcome Back Kotter)

Maybe I was mistaken and you can't JB a OTB 1.1.2, although I think you could...either way, Xanders way is bound to work as well and only adds 2 steps to mine so it shouldn't be too tough.

Since mine is a OTB 1.0.2, I might have forgoten a few things others might have to through....my appologies.

Lets not exaggerate.. it took me about 15mins tops to jailbreak my 1.1.2... doing the 1.1.1 downgrade, install oktoprep, upgrade 1.1.2 jailbreak...
then to upgrade to softupgrade1.1.3 it took maybe another 15-20mins. The whole process if you know what your doing takes maybe 30mins.

Unless of course if it is your first time and you have to read all the tutorials(because tinkering with a $400 phone is kinda stressful when you run the risk of bricking it) and download and unzip all the software and firmware required to accomplish the jailbreaks... but after you know the process its cake. I keep all the files on my computer just incase my phone were to crash, I can just breeze through the recovery/jailbreak process.

If your iPhone is currently at 1.1.3, you need to be at jailbroken 1.1.2 to perform the offical dev-team jailbreak, however to jailbreak a 1.1.2 iPhone you need to be at jailbroken 1.1.1. I know, quite confusing. Basically:

1.1.3 -> Restore to 1.1.1 -> Jailbreak 1.1.1 -> Update to 1.1.2 -> Jailbreak 1.1.2 -> Soft-Update to 1.1.3

You should be able to find all the guides in the wiki.

BTW I don't recommend using the jailbreak released by Nate as previously recommended by Phreakish.

I say 2 hours because after all the futzing around with 111 (15 mins) oktoprep update to 112 and jailbreak (20 mins) then the 113 update (another 30-40 mins depending on your Internet speed) there's over an hour. Then you have to re-sync your media which can be another hour! So yeah, a 2 hour process so far.

15 minutes to jailbreak 112 is impossible. It takes 10 just to do the dfu downgrade to 111, then the touchfree jailbreak, the 10 more for iTunes to update to 112, then the 112 jailbreak which is 5-10 minutes so who here is exaggerating?

You might have a really slow machine and a really slow internet connection if everything takes that long.

I went from 1.1.1 restored 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 all jailbroken in about 40 mins including syncing my media and this aint a great computed by a long shot.

I have a very fast machine but he said he can go to a jailbroken 112 in 15 minutes and that's impossible. The restoring of firmware to the iPhone (dependent on the iPhones speed btw, not the computer!) takes 5-10 minutes to restore) do that twice (once to dfu to 111 and then to update to 112) and you're at the 10-20 minute mark. Add in the touchfree ota jailbreak for 111 (10 minutes easy) and the 112 jailbreak (again 10 minutes as it reflashes the rom) and you see where I'm going. 1 wrong keypress during the touchfree process and you're back at the activation screen and have to start over etc, etc... 15 minutes to a jailbroken 112 is impossible and the person that sends me a video showing it done in that time with no cuts or edits gets $50 for their trouble.

So, if you can restore a jailbroken 112 back to a jailbroken 112 in 15 minutes or less I will pay you after you provide video proof with no cuts and timecode embedded.

I gave it plenty of time and there were no takers so my challenge is withdrawn.
