I need to send my ipod in repair, so I ran into ikaput. (www.ikaput.com)

Anyone ever use this service? If so how was it? It doesnt look like a scam to me..
Anyone recommend anything else? I am out of warranty btw. I tried ipodcorrectors.com but they wanted me to first pay $500 first for thier "free" diagnostic.

Beware this moron...he deliberately changes items on your ipod other than what you wanted fixed, so as to then up your charges even more..if you can reach them, which is not likely: their customer log in and chat are dead, they don't return phone calls on the 800 number, and when I finally got this dude (out of the Utah local phone book listing-voila, he picks up!!)loser named Sherwin, he was very obviously extremely intoxicated or drugged, and denied even talking to me on the work order!
I have reported their $110 charge to my bank as fraudulent, and thankfully have insurance for my iPod's replacement full worth. Stay away from these guys like a seal in a shark's tank!!!

iKaput has my money from 4 months ago and still, I don't have the part I ordered. Thank goodness I didn't send them my iPod to have it fixed by THEM. They'd probably have fixed it and sold it to someone else. I have submitted a complaint to the Utah Consumer Protection division. I'm not GLAD their are others, but with my new life objective to shut down iKaput, I am happy their are others speaking out.

two people went through all the trouble of making an hofo accout
and made only one post
and that one post was bashing ikaput

i guess ikaput must be really bad.

Never use this place. I did, and they have my 300 dollar iPod, and 200 more for a new one that is not even here. They don't contact you. I tried the BBB to fix the problem. I'm still in limbo.

Your best bet is going to be to take it to an Apple store. Then you know you're getting what you need.

Actually, the Apple store folks are trained to tell you your unit's toast, whether you need a hard drive or new battery...they make a LOT of money taking it off your hands for a measly discount off a new one!!!
Again, red light warning against using iKaput. With any luck, they will be Kaput soon. I talked with the UTAH STATE CONSUMER AFFAIRS officer, who'd gone out to the site. He described the situation as of 'a young, newly married man, with piles upon piles, literally stacks of ipod packages strewn around everywhere. Not a pretty picture...they did send mine back after I contacted the Utah State Consumer Division, so I urge EVERYONE who has//has had a problem with this company to state their displeasure.\
In general, it is a niche racket, and it is really easy for a 'start up' half ***** operation to get going, figuring that the customer won't show up in small claims court in Provo, UT OR KS!
The best bet is to look for companies that repair Apple PC's and have a full parts warehouse and price list on site-don't send your unit to anyone who doesn't have a 24-7 phone support line!!
GOOD LUCK
John-Boston
