Autofill is here

1password released the update today that adds autofill username/password for all your websites. The file is encrypted and uses a master password to protect your data.

Why is this basic feature not on all so called "smartphones", because they're smartphoneys, thats why

(yes, I know you're looking and duly impressed).

It isn't on smartphones because it is a huge, massive, obscenely large security hazard if the password is discovered.

That's for Mac only, right?

Well yeauh, that's fairly obvious really isnt it? But let me ask you this, if someone figured out just 1 of your passwords how many sites would that grant them access to? How many sites do you remain logged into on your iPhone because you don't want to authenticate each time you visit? Its a matter of degrees isnt it. If you have a strong master password and keep it protected then the convienence outweighs the risk factor. I've used it for a day and now I wouldn't be without it.

Yes, it is Mac only for now.

Can you post a link for this?

I see the Mac app but I don't see mention of the iPhone.

I recently switched to Mac so I'm anxious to give this a try.

you could simply lock your iPhone so you need a pin number to use it .

Posted by: XanderMac

yes, you could lock the phone too but the autofill has its own encryption also so as long as you protect the master password its as secure as any password protected application.

Www.1password.com and download the newest version (maybe the current 2.5 beta version). It works perfectly and IMHO is a lot better than staying logged into a site because we are lazy humans that don't want to log in each time on our phones.

ok thanks for that I'll take a look at it.

Trying it now thanks.

Isn't this supposed to cost around $30?
Maybe that's the price-point after the SDK is released.

Either way, thats a poop load of money for a pasword manager.

Its a keychain manager for the Mac and one of the most lauded mac applications available. Far more than just a password manager. The fact that it extends the iPhones capabilities is merely a bonus.

The fact that on the iPhone it only serves as a password manager makes it close to useless.

We use 1password at work so I know what the software does and how well it works.

I was commenting on it's purpose on the phone

Xander, you've been on quite the antsy smart-***, semi angry mood in the last few weeks.
Chill a bit sunshine. I mean this in the most positive way.

I wasn't having a go at you mate, your opinion is just as important to me, I'm just saying that the iPhone password management and autofill capabilities are a nice bunus to the application that is thrown in for free. A lot of people like to have a password manager on their phone and I'm passing along information is all.

I agree, if you already have the software, the iPhone addition is great, however can you imagine someone buying 1password just for the phone?

From what I could gather from blogs, this is exactly what they are planing on doing once the SDK is released but obviously, everything is pure speculation at this point.

Sorry if I was a bit harsh on you. I knew you weren't having a go at me....you just seems a bit tense lately.
Hope everything is a-okay

I would say if you own a Mac and haven't bought 1password that is is a fantastic program but if the intention is to buy it just for the iPhone and not use its desktop features that you shouldn't bother. Although I did pay $30 for ewallet for my Wm devices and I thought that was money well spent. I had no idea that they had planned to charge extra for this once the SDK was released, unless they have a standalone app in development? In which case I wouldn't need that as I already have the desktop app which includes the iPhone sync for free.

Everything is fine, just enjoying baiting the haters a little is all!

Tried it and bought it.

Been using 1Password for almost a year. It is very good, and so is their support. The fact that this was added is a sweet bonus.

It does work very nicely for autofilling information on the iPhone. Much less tedious for those who actually do use long alphacharanumeric PWs.

It's highly unlikely anyone who actually does find an iPhone that has all this info on it will know how to use it or much less decrypt it. Most likely they'll end up formatting it just to sell it. And when they actually post here to try and figure it out....everyone usually sees right into what's going on

I've lost 1 cell phone in 17 years...and 1 wallet in 42 years (which was returned over 1000 miles away)....and never a laptop stolen in over 20 years.....I'll take me chances on this application on my iPhone.

That loud thunk you just heard was me hitting my head on my wooden desk, JIC though
