Just got my 8525, need help

ok so i just got my new 8525 and i am trying to upgrade to WM6. I vista so i downloaded the Windows Mobile Device Center program and installed it. Disabled all firewall and security. plugged in my phone to the usb to the laptop and open up windows mobile device but it won't connect. any help would be appreciated. sorry for the noobness. this is my first smarthphone/pda.

Well, I can tell you it isn't a walk in the park the first time around. Not too familiar with trying to do this on a Vista computer though. Are you using ActiveSync?

i thought activesync is only for windows xp and below? on microsoft's website it says that Windows Mobile Device is the equivalent of Activesync for Vista.

EDIT: I just tried on a XP laptop and it still won't connect. does anyone think it could be the phone? or am i just not doing it correctly?

Like I said I am not familiar with Vista and ROM flashing.

So you tried XP and ActiveSync?

yeah. i tried XP and activesync and activesync won't connect.

finally figured it out and it was so simply. my own stupidity. there was something wrong with the data cable, so i brought a new one. now it works. now i can upgrade and more. thanks for your replys.

Make sure you do flash HardSPL and Olipro bootloader before you start trying to flash new roms.

Yea I might actually have a problem with my cable right now as well. Funny, it looks brand new too...

ok i have an issue. im trying to hardspl v7 but it always gives me error 260. i've read all the instructions and guides in XDA forums, but still can't figure it out. i've used the hermes SIM CID unlocker v3a. followed the instruction but when i press next on the last step before it upgrades, it always gives me a error 260 where it says verifying info or something like that. any help?

also wazitup, Htc Home Costumization is a good one.
