My s500i - nearly all white (with pics sorry 56k people)

Hey guys

ive changed the housing of my black s500i and put a white housing from cnn.cn, i have already uploaded the photos on esato,

So wait, is it an S500 or is it a W580? The one pic says W580 and the Walkman part definitely looks W580. Either way, I love white phones, and I love the S500/W580 phone, so I really like it. Is there any way to change the green surround on the d pad?

i think for the d pad u can just get another dpad... ie the w580 grey has the turquoise and white has orange?? i just noticed the model number...hmmm maybe its flashed to w580... its really nice tho =D

For some reason I can't edit my post so I'll write up another post.

The styling really reminds me of the white M600i which is really great. You shouldn't change the Dpad since it matches the SE logo as well as the green lights in the side.

What parts did you order from CNN? Is it just a Black/green S500i with a white/brown shell and yellow/silver keypad?

cta16 - the side lights can be changed to a number of colors besides green, like red, blue, white, etc. That is why I was asking. It would be cool if it lit up white.

Yes, I know. But when I see people with their w580s, its always green on the side. I don't have a w580 so I don't know under which circumstances they change. I just think green looks best with this colour combo.

someone asked for the dissembly guide just a few days ago... all u gotta do is get the white front/back plates and swap them with the black ones..

my phone is a s500i flashed to a w580, but i still think its a s500i.. just with megabass and some more cool flash themes!

the pedometer function and the radio does not work because the s500i does not have the required hardware for it to work, you can go into the program, but it does not count your footsteps or anything.

what you do get is:
walkman 2 - its so much better than the sony ericsson media player
which includes mega bass.
w580 flash themes (you can get the s500i flash themes back on your phone later)
flight mode
and the right to brag to your friends that you have a w580! =D

i just checked cnn.cn again, they dont seem to have the white ones anymore? i brought mine from there, so u might have to ask them.

ebay should have them though

@kayfour - do you know if the d-pads are the same size (diameter)? If someone was brave enough to cut the buttons apart, do you think it would be possible for the d-pads to be swapped out?

It's actually not that difficult at all. I just did mine and it took me about 15mins. Just take your time, go slow and read the service manual before you start.

Have a look at the new faceplate before you start, you can see where the clips are and then you can tell how they come apart.

I checked, they are, and they can't be very easily, however you can remove the color gel and replace it with a different one.

Great. Just ordered one of the housings off of ebay. Do you need all the tools that the manual states (like the Plectrum) or can I get by with a torx driver and finger nails?

just wondering which seller you ordered your housing from on ebay, i'm planning on ordering one too but i'm not too sure about the quality on there and i've had very bad experiences with cnn. let me know how it works out for you.

If you buy the right kit they usually come with the tools you need to change the plates around.

If not, you will need a T6 screwdriver and a plectrum (a guitar pick works perfectly, that's what I used) If you are only changing the front/back then you don't need the T6 screwdriver only the plectrum.

The W580 doesn't use any torx screws, just regular philips

and you need a pry tool if you don't have the plectrum, unless u have really strong finger nails, lol

I'm not too sure either, but I went with http://myworld.ebay.com/hksupershop from ebay. Only 11 negative feedback out of 2000+ is pretty decent. I'll provide an update once I receive it.. most likely in a week or two.

I got mine from them. It's OEM. One thing though, they shipped the housing assembled and when I took it apart it broke. So I emailed them and they are sending out a new one. I would recommend dealing with them again.

How do you know that it is OEM? I was under the assumption that no one sold OEM housings, especially not someone from Hong Kong.

Because it is OEM? The quality and fit is too good to be a knock off. That and why would a guy with 20K positive feedback lie?

I can pretty much guarantee that it is not OEM. 20k positive feedback doesn't mean anything these days. There are so many fakes on eBay, and not only cellphone stuff, jeans, shoes, cologne, you name it, and there is a good chance it is fake.

I just checked that hksuper whatever store. It is not 20k positives, it is 2k positives. And this is taken directly from one of his auctions.

You have an s500i, so tell me this: Would a Non-OEM have factory QA markings and SE part numbers molded into it?

I am willing to concede that it may not in fact be an OEM product, but if it isn't it's a *very very* convincing knock off. You must admit though that it is possible that they are selling legit factory parts.

Would you be willing to post high res pics of the *insides* of your s500i's front and back face plates?

Edit: fixed some spelling.

Its probably a convincing knockoff... how hard is it to print QA markings ans SE part numbers? If that gets more sales than the next guy on ebay, i'd do it too

All you need to do is take off the battery cover, that should be enough.

how long did it take you to get in your housings??? i just ordered mine today and want it now!!! but i know thats not gonna happen. they say 8-14 days, but was it closer to 8 or 14??? thats a big gap is why i'm asking. thanks for all your help.

Are you trying to call me out or something? Do you think that my S500i is fake or something? Look, there are not OEM housings sold in bulk on eBay from sellers in Hong Kong. That is pretty much a given fact.

gentlemen, lets stop all the bickering. oem or not, more then likely not, but still possible, as long as it fits well, honestly, thats all i care about. i've bought many non oem faceplates and housings from ebay, and they all fit as if oem, even though they weren't.

Just ordered it on sunday. Haven't gotten any confirmation of shipping or anything, but that's almost to be expected. I emailed them anyway just to see if I can at least get an idea that it was shipped.

I'll be sure to keep you all updated.

I got an email response back saying it was sent out yesterday. So I'm hoping that it will come in sometime mid next week.

I'm just changing the faceplates on the s500i.

i just ordered new faceplates from the uk ebay but I am kinda worried about how im going to do this without messing up any parts of the phone.

do all housing come with a manual?

just got my s500i housing in today, and completed the swap. must say, it looks so sexy... also swapped the blue piece behind the d-pad and the ear piece. very happy with how it came out. and easy to do. took less then 15 mins to do.

didn't bother with pics, was gonna, but completely forgot in all my excitement lol sorry guys. and i got mine for hksuperstore i think it was. the fit and quality seems to be fine. no complaints at all. slide mechanism still works like a charm. no wiggling, or looseness at all. lines match up almost nicer then the oem w580 i had lol

They sent me a w580i housing. Sigh. Just emailed them, but in any event, looks like I'm still a few weeks off. Sucks.

the all black looks nice~ I had never seen one with the black keypad before.

I Stated with an urban gray w580i so I wanted to go all black/blue.

Yes the case is necessary. I am pretty rough with my devices and I don't want to worry about scratching it if I accidentally drop it or put it in my pocket with keys. So far I have dropped the phone once and it doesn't have a scratch on it, but the case is cracked.
