No.

It won't work.

You can download the SDK which is just the 'innards' of Android so that people can develop the applications. But other then that, not until a full release occurs which is probably months away still.

it looks like it does not have to be a touch screen, but at least a smartphone.... as this demo looks like

Android is currently made for PDA/smartphones using ARMv5 and above. That is not to say that it cannot be compiled for older hardware.

All of the new LiMo phones announced.

Due to proprietary drivers and licenses, you may be able to sucessfully load linux on your handset but not all the features may work (camera, gps, etc). It depends on the manufacturer.

i was thinking along the lines of any nokia s60 smartphone, since that is mostly what i use. just curious.

The closest thing nokia would be their internet tablets 770/800/etc.

of course there will be many hacks from volunteers to port Android on some old WM or Symbian devices, but there will be no official support or migration kit from any Android device manufacturer like HTC atc. Android will come with completely new devices, state of the art devices by functionality and design.

The Android phones will not be expensive though, comparing to other modern Windows Mobile, Symbian or Palm devices.

As said above the only things for Android which you can already download now are the SDK and some applications and games.

Despite the rumors that some small companies successfully Android to older Windows Mobile Smartphones and Pocket PCs, I couldn't see any of such packages available for download.

You're just emulating Android hardware on the PC; this is not on a phone.
