Got Another iPhone!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: davistld01

I just picked up another 8gb iPhone from a local Craigslist seller...for cheap, and I just unwrapped it, took it out of the box, and am charging it as I type this. I have missed it...and am stoked about having one again.

The serial number shows the phone was made in week #40. I hear all about the weeks of manufacture of the iPhone being important...is week-40 a good week or a bad week...and why?

BTW...I'm not looking to, or am interested in unlocking or hacking this phone. I just thought I heard of some improvements Apple had made in the late-30 to mid-40 weeks as far as screens and display quality.

Thanks!!

Wow, who peed in your cornflakes this morning?

Davis - welcome back... I know that you've gone back and forth a lot on this subject, and that it's hard to give up your Blackberry love ... but I'm glad to see you've rejoined the gang!!

I knew you would be back

They're amazing, aren't they!

BTW:

I am not interested in hacking my iPhone either, I don't like any of the apps anyways. You aren't alone.

I have a question. You have a BB Curve (fantastic phone btw) and I'm assuming a plan specific to the BB? Will it be possible to use the iPhone on that plan or will you have to switch to the iPhone plan and another 2 years? If that is the case won't you lose all the BB Data features is you want to use the BB again?

You can use the iPhone with a BB plan but the visual voice mail won't work. You won't know if you have a voice mail unless you manually check it. The BB will work on a iPhone plan but the wen and push mail won't work.

How do you activate the iPhone?

After almost four days with the iPhone again...I am beginning to hate the virtual keypad even more than I disliked it before. The rest of the phone is great...although a little more laggy between functions than I remembered...but having gotten really used to a tactile qwerty keyboard on my BlackBerry, and being able to type quickly and efficiently with two thumbs...the iPhone keypad is a bummer.

No matter how cool the rest of the phone is...communication, and ease of communication is paramount with me. I am seriously considering kicking the iPhone to the curb again. Great device...but maybe not for me.

Yup. If the Safari browser was on the BB...it would be great.

But, if they put a real qwerty on the iPhone, it would be THE ONE!!

Each time I think about getting the iPhone again, I remember the difficulties I had with the keyboard and I'm thankful for my BB 8310.

I got used to typing on my Treo 700wx

now after a 1 week of using the iphone, the typing is so easy and i cant see myself going back to the treo or a bb.

Not many know but it only took me 2 days to go running back to my Curve. I do not care what anyone says, the keyboard on the iPhone SUX!

I am still not so good at typing, especially lately. If it wasn't for the auto correct I would have gotten rid of it a long long time ago.I have big hands and fingers, and it's kinda difficult. It gets annoying, then I switch to another phone like the w580i or d807 or something, and I always come back to my iPhone cuz I appreciate it so much more

There is no way I could go back to using a non-qwerty phone full-time. I had gotten away from it with a N95, and then a Moto. Razr2 V9...and it drove me absolutely nuts!!

And, I have the iPhone sold...tentatively, if the buyer doesn't flake out. We'll see...

Told you so......

I don't have big fingers myself and I had great difficulty typing. If Apple ever improves the keyboard, I'm back.

I actually just got a Nokia N75 a few days ago as my backup phone and have been using it more than the iPhone. I do miss the qwerty and the blackberry does win hands down as the best keyboard ever. I kinda wish i would have kept my curve but had to finance getting the iPhone. I think I've ran through about 6-10 phones in the past year or so and still have not found the perfect phone. At this point I don't think there is such a thing..lol

Posted by: brealmp3

i can type great on either, blackberry or iphone. but then i do send around 4000 between the 2 of them..

I really don't think that people realize that you need to just keep typing when you're hitting wrong letters. I hit things typing this that aren't even CLOSE to the right letters but auto correct just fixes it. I don't see how the little plastic keys can be faster to type on in any conceivable way. Btw, I have huge fingers (I'm 6'8").

Apparently you've never owned a BB. I can type w/o looking at the keyboard like I'm using my laptop or desktop. You can't do that on a iPhone.

Posted by: thraven233

That's the only reason I've kept my iPhone, is because of the auto correct. Without it, I think it would be really hard for me to type. My fastest typing was 103 WPM, so I know a thing or two about it. Blackjacks are nearly impossible for me to type on. I'm gonna try a blackberry some day.

I second this, except coming from a q9m.

I still have the q9m because I have lots of friends/family that's verizon and don't have unlimited text to anyone, mainly my girl, so I have to hang on to it for now but I hate typing on it, I actually get annoyed everytime i have to use it because the iphones keyboard is so easy to use. I agree that the auto correct is a lifesaver, but after 4 days of being on this keyboard i am 5-6x faster than on a regular qwerty

i have a blackberry 8310 and i hate it i like the iphone way way better and now that they came out with the 16gb even better btw i just got the iphone today and i havent looked back.

Why don't you keep practicing instead of giving up so quickly? I used the Curve for a couple of days and couldn't stand that trackball.

Believe me, I have FIVE opportunities to "practice" typing on the iPhones keypad. It was just as frustrating the fifth time as it was on the first...for me, anyway.

See...I really like the BlackBerry trackball, and was really afraid that I wouldn't. But...with "practice" I appreciate it much more than a click of a d-pad or even the tap of an iPhone for navigation.

To each his/her own...
