V9M "power on" light?

Another question regarding the V9M...I know that the screen doesn't stay on (even in dimmed mode like the E815), but is there some way to have some sort of indication that the phone is powered on, without having to press one of the side buttons to make the screen active again? Even a blinking light of some sort...

Turn on bluetooth and a blue light will flash every 5 seconds.

Thanks, I never thought of that. If Bluetooth isn't actually being "used", the battery shouldn't wear down much faster than normal, should it?

I would think not. I tested mine with it on for a day and off for a day, both seemed comparable. It doesn't use much battery.

More questions...Shouldn't the Bluetooth indicator light flash whether or not a device is currently paired with it or not? And shouldn't there be a Bluetooth indicator on the screen when Bluetooth is turned on? Also, when the phone is plugged in for charging, shouldn't the green charging light be on constantly until the battery is charged? My charging light blinks once when the phone is initially plugged in, and there is a beep, but after that, the light goes off, and there is no indication that the phone is charging. I'd like to hear other people's experiences before I go back to my Alltel agent to complain...thanks!

On my phone, when bluetooth is powered ON, it flashes a blue light on the front of the phone every 5 seconds. It also has the little bluetooth icon beside the 'EV-DO' icon on the top screen of my home screen. When I plug my phone in, the green power light stays lite until the charge is complete, then it turns off..

Thanks for the response, Stund...what you said makes sense, and I think that's the way mine should work. I stopped at my Alltel dealer after work, and the woman there told me that the charging light doesn't glow continuously, but rather, it blinks while the phone is charging (I always plug mine in at night, so I never look at it, other than when I plug it in, when the light goes on, and then off almost immediately). Regarding the Bluetooth indicator, she said that it only works when the phone is in "Find Me" mode, or when the phone is paired with a headset.

I still have a dispute with what she told me. Is it possible that I don't have my preferences set correctly? All I can do with Bluetooth is turn it on or off, and it's "discoverable" for 3 minutes. There is no flashing blue light where it should be (according to the manual), only a flashing Bluetooth symbol on the screen, EXCEPT when I'm paired with (in my case) my computer, as in moving ringtones to my phone.

As far as the charging lights, I have them set to "ON" in the Initial Setup menu, and Battery Save is also set to "ON". These are the only things I can think of that might be controlling those two indicator lights (Bluetooth and charger lights).

I'm just trying to figure out if there's something wrong with my phone or not, because if so, I want to have some ammunition so that I can exchange it for another one.

I meant to say, the blue light on the front of the flip (when the phone is closed) only flashes when I'm paired to my computer. If I just have the phone on, with Bluetooth on, there is no indicator light, nor is the symbol flashing on the screen.

When my bluetooth is NOT pared, the symbol dose not flash, but every 5 seconds it flashes on the outside of my phone. When I am paired to a device, the symbol flashes, along with my indication light flashing every 5 seconds. When I am pared to something and transferring, it stays solid.

Well, I know it's not something I should worry about, as long as the phone is working fine otherwise...but if these are things that SHOULD be happening, but aren't, I should see if I can exchange the phone for another.

Its and expensive phone and should run the way most top end phones do. I would see if the other phones in the store do the same as mine, or yours. How long have you had the phone for?

Posted by: Leinie

I've had it for two weeks now. I know I'm well within my rights to return it for another one, and I don't think what they were telling me is correct (that my phone is behaving "normally"). Unless it's an Alltel thing...

Posted by: stund

Its quite possible that its an Alltel thing.. mine is through Bell. Even though I believe they are the same company, the software may be different within the phones. I know for a DOA you must have the phone less than 30 days - with Bell.

Just an update...I emailed Motorola directly, and got a response, regarding the Bluetooth light. They informed me that the only time the Bluetooth light on the front of the flip will flash is when the phone is paired to another device; it will NOT flash if I simply have Bluetooth set to "on". As far as the charging light, I verified the last time I charged the phone that the green light DOES glow steadily when I plug the phone in, until the phone is completely charged. I must not have had a secure connection in the past when I plugged it in. Or something!

No flashing light for bluetooth is an Alltel software quirk. Someone may be able to figure out how to get it working via a seem edit in the future, but I don't believe anyone has yet. You can try setting the backlight times to the longest possible time in the settings so that it won't turn off right away, but it will eventually turn off.

I just wish somehow the backlight on the outside screen would stay on (but dim) like the E815, so there were SOME indication that the phone is powered on.

Maybe my phone has a glitch then. As my bluetooth light flashes every 5 seconds when it is NOT paired to any device. When it is paired to something, it stays solid. All of the better though.
