Does anyone know if the internet will ever work on the sh905i or is it impossible to work ?? cause it does have GPRS doesnt it, i think.

finally got my P905i, but having that same problem with the China3gp and only beeing able to call out.. I do get incoming texts but only after a long delay and they come in bunches =S

Have you been on 3Siu.com? They have a thread going with pictures of a software-unlocked 920SC compared to a SIM-hacked 920SC. Oh well, no biggie- when the software unlock becomes more widely available you can get one, I guess.

Yup, I was waiting for the result of the new SIM hack. Apparantly iNex folks already stated that their new card don't work on AT&T too. It seems so far T-Mo folks are the lucky one.

The thing to figure out is that is the problem due to the SIM or the actual cell towers...because in California/Nevada T-MO is essentially using the old Cingular towers (they bought it) while Cingular/At&t is on the old AT&T Wireless towers. Anybody using T-Mo w/905i series on the East Coast??

I am almost sure that it has to do with the sim card, I was messing around with my network settings today on my p905i (t-mobile) and I accidently got it to auto on at&t (gsm) for a few seconds. Also as far as i know at&t is fine on softbanks at least with my 705px.

BTW, I do not think at&t is the best carrier for japanese phones due to that 850mhz gsm frequency it leads to alot of dead spots when i was using my softbank.

Yea those SIM hacks work fine on Softbank phones with At&T cards. But again those SIM hacks were designed for Softbank in the first place and were never intended for DoCoMo phones. It is still pretty much a mystery why they work with certain carriers...

Since Cingular sold their old 1900hmz towers to T-Mo I think they been expand their 850mhz towers instead so reception wise it is not gonna be good....

i had problems with that seller too.. he didn't even mail my package.. like a week after i ordered it.. (even though he claimed he did, but the tracking number he gave me couldn't even be tracked).. so then he told me he shipped it to the wrong place.. so i just told him to return my money

Thanks for the updates about the AT&T non-functionality. I just returned all the sim-hacks I had purchased. Will be ebaying my Sh905i next week I guess too! Really stinks though, I was really looking foward to using this phone but would much rather have a phone that works than one that "might" work someday.

The 1900mhz infrastructure were sold to T-Mobile a few year back already. However, it should be the type of SIM card they are using...
But even if SIM card were to be compatible reception will be affected as AT&T/Cingualr focus more on 850mhz towers now. T-Mo is full 1900mhz.

hmm icic... well I see that they allow WMA format so I can just convert my music into WMA and it'll be alright. My biggest concern however, is that it only accept midi for ringtones. I tried so hard to get out of the midi-ringtone trend with my last Nokia 3320 and now I don't really want to go back to those midi-days as midis are really hard to find and make as well..

What about P905? Will that be able to set say.. WMA or some sort of music format (non-midi) which I can easily set as ringtone?

no. for p905i, they only allow midi and mld as ringtone. (? im not even sure what mld is...but according to some guy from the tofushop, he said mld sounds just like midi.)

MLD is basically MIDI but with wave sounds on top if it >_> if that helps in describing it....

well if someone can get their hands on a fully working MLD converter... you can actually change mp3 files into WAV files and then convert it to MLD so there is hope... the problem is... how can I find a MLD converter

I've found a wav -> MLD convertor from Yamaha for NEC handsets... Does this mean it will work for others or is every handset different in terms of their specificcations?

I've read some post and know that it wouldn't work for AT&T (Sucks...), but I was wondering if It could work for T-Mobile (Of course using the phone with a Hyper Sim or something to it's effect)

use mp4, the easiest way is to convert your movies as if they're for PSP

640:352 for full screen and not too much bit rate to overload the phone

or get the software here

I've finally decided that I want the P905i over 905SH. I like the looks of 905SH more, but the fact that it doesn't have bluetooth and that it doesn't support any other ringtone formats other than midi really bothers me.

I've heard that all functions on P905i has been unlocked (except for internet). Is this true? Can someone confirm this?

I think everyone would want the P905i over the SH905i considering the features, but to my knowledge, it isn't reliably unlocked yet. So you buy a beauty of a brick, which IMHO is a waste of $ (maybe not

). SH905i isn't that bad in looks either and as opposed to the P905i, actually works well.

Oh BTW, yup everything is unlocked, it is a symbian phone so all features originally work even without a SIM with the exception of calls. And of course if you're out of Japan, 1SEG and the other Japan-catered options won't function

someone from the "INEX, Hypersim, Nextsim, China3GP explored! and Answered!" post said that P905i works with Rogers 3040 sim + inex hs128 the one released for p905i.

dunno how reliable he is though. i guess i'll just wait till more ppl can confirm this then buy the phone haha

well I could be......and I already know of a few sims that would work with fido be it the 804sh only or china3gp/next sim or w/e

but they aren't stable enough.............regardless I'll be one of the testers of the new Next sim V7

So I'll post results on that once I get my hands on it and use it for awhile (assuming it works)

let me just repeat it 1 more time and i shall never hear this bull shyte again.

I live in california! I have the SH905i and there is nothing locked when you get a brand new Sh905i. the instant you turn it on, all functions work except for network stuff (ie: internet, GPS, 1seg, etc). phone calls wont work unless you got a SIM hack.
Other than that, EVERYTHING else works!

heres a list of things i can remember that will work with the SIM hack and things that wont:

things that work with a SIM HACK:
camera
phone
addy book,
any camera stuff (ie. barcode reader)
music playback
video playback
calculator
calendar
any Personal managment stuff
alarm
SMS
answering machine

etc.

things that WONT work with even if you have a SIM hack (at least not yet known to humans

):

GPS
iseg
internet
MMS
the remote control for TV sets
Push to talk

thats all i can think of right now

i shall never hear one of those bull stuff and you shall not listen to ppl who are trying to scam you.

Yes, they works. DoCoMo and Softbank use same chargers.

There should be a microSD manager that can be accessed from the menu. From there you select "Format microSD". This is for SH, but it should be done similarly. If it's not there then look around the settings menu.

It's been a while since I've checked this thread, but wow, the surge of DCM phones on eBay really amazes me.

Anyways, yeah, just put it to basic mode, the Custom Kisekae thingy makes the phone quite complex, but I like it because it sets it apart from other phones.

And one thing to point out, your P905i is obviously going to be more technically complex than phones in Europe, I'm not sure if you are referring to Sony Ericsson, Nokia, or whatever, because you can't compare those phones to Japanese ones... JP ones are in a totally different league..

man having a jphone is cool and annoying at the same time. Spent a good 2 hour just customizing my phonebook, ok check this, when someone calls me it comes up with a "1"+number but when SMS is received it comes up with "+1"+number. SOOO yeah i have two separate phonebook entries, one set of numbers for phone and one from the sim and i have to set "1"+number for one set and "+1"+number to the other just for me to know whos calling me and whos texting me.......FUN!

you have to rig the settings and enter in the number for your carriers message center which I don't know because I don't have the same carrier as you. >_>

Transcode the video so that it's in the right resolution then when playing it, select "Wide?" Or if it's smaller than WVGA to begin with, just select "Wide" and it'll go full screen.

did you try changing the sms centre phone number?
.. this isn't only for docomo phones... this is for all gsm phones...

You have to encode to 640 x 352

It play HE-AAC with a .3gp extension, WMA or SD Audio files, according to what I've read. But
I haven't been able to put music on mine since I don't have a usb cable yet and using WMA through windows media is the easiest way.

even with the official docomo cable I haven't been able to sync the p905i with WMP 11 properly......it might be because I don't have a sim in it though.

cool thanks for all the reply. i got the SMS issue figured out. If anyone is interested in knowing, you also have to list the number type as international. If you use "unknown" it will not work even if you have the right SMS center number.

There should be somewhere for you to select "Format microSD", in the settings submenu. After you format it and put it into the computer, you should see folders created automatically.

i dont know if anyone else has confirmed it, but i have a SanDisk 8GB on my P905i and it works great....!!!oh, also, i checked on user's manual and in the end of the page 133 it says that the flickering of the flash can NOT be disabled...

Well i got my P905i up and running but its only the first day so yea see how it goes from there. But some providers react different to the phone, maybe due to the sim card being different. Has any1 figure out how to stop the flashing on the p905i Camera?

well this is not a complete explanation
the use of a hypersim is to trick the phone to think the phone is now on international roaming, and yes it does the job to transmit the code, otherwise you phone will read "no usim"

as long as the phone recognises the sim, the phone stores the IMSI and send the IMSI to the Mobile Station to register, after the MS verify the IMSI, the VLR(Visitor Location Register) assign you a TMSI. Every time you move from one area station to another, you will be assigned a new TMSI by the new station. Also, TMSI is by the definition of protecting your IMSI being stolen and traced, so periodical, even you are not moving to another station, the old TMSI will expire, a new TMSI will be assigned (it will, just a matter of time). And this is the reason why a lot people get kicked "out", when the old TMSI is expired, the phone(mostly the 905i, coz it stores the IMSI ever since the first time it reads it) knows the trick, so you have to reboot your phone to let the phone read the IMSI again.

and there's something i need to add.
some people using 905i merely get out, it DOES NOT mean you have a perfect hypesim. first thing, a perfect hypesim means you never get out. second, the most distinct way to test a perfect hypesim, is to clone your sim card, put your sim card and the clone one in two phones, use them to call out one after another, if your 905i doesn't get out, it means it's a perfect hypesim. but unfortunately 905i will never have a perfect hypesim, the only way to make 905i have perfect signal is that we need to hack the software/firmware just like an iphone.

then you might ask, sometimes i lose signal when i go underground and elevator. look, when you go underground or elevator, your phone can be out, but your TMSI is not expired, so when you are receiving signal you have the same TMSI.
you might ask again, i drive all around and don't get out. here is the thing you need to know. TMSI can be transmitted accross the statons, so you think i moved from one station to another and no out, this is a perfect hypesim, this is wrong. as i said, to know if it's perfect, do that test.

I'm getting pretty annoyed with syncing the phone with wmp11...installed the drivers via cd and it doesn't work.then tried to follow manual to install and it gives me a jap msg then closes the installer o.O...then.I deleted all the drivers etc and it still doesn't sync

this things driving my patience D:

i think you guys know SSIM(supersim) or 877 card? it is a sim clone and a sim hack for your JP phones, you would know it if you've been following all the iphone hacks. what you need to do is to hack the KI of your sim card and write your sim card's ICCID, IMSI, SMSP and KI onto SSIM or 877. things you need to buy are a sim card reader/writer, and a SSIM.

i don't suggest you to do it tho, coz there is no point to do this, SSIM is not as stable as a hypersim, sometimes you could get infinitely out, and the worst case scenario of infinite reboot. the only benefit is you only need one card in the sim slot, well maybe another which you have a lighter phone?

It's the hassle.

They're used to plug and play. All the are concerned about is whether or not the phones are unlocked. If it is, then they're good to go.

Which is great considering the IT factor

Now to the subject of this post;

i am considering buying a P905I, however from what i can collect from this thread the sim hack seems to be 98% there - some in and out for some, and ofcourse 1seg dosnt work here either, but do anyone have any experience using sim hacks in Norway? It would suck to have one of these magnificent phones and no gsm network to use them on.
And the last question;
Is there anything in the works somewhere that would unlock this phone completly, or is it quite possible that it will never become fully unlocked?

considering I have no idea where you are and which carrier your with I have no idea.....

But isn't that just one of those "recommended" things? For example, if you have a memory card reader in your PC, they recommend you to choose "safely remove hardware" (in Windows XP) down at the taskbar before removing it.. but I always just yank it out and nothing ever happens.

I think these rules are just made to prevent dumb people from screwing up their memory cards and then complaining. As long as the phone is not reading to/writing from the card at the time you take it out, it should be fine.

I don't know much about the P905i, but with my 920P (the P905i clone), I popped the memory card in and out all the time without ever shutting the phone off.
