Voice dialing on Pearl is TERRIBLE

Am I the only one or is it bad for everybody? Other phones I use seem to work fine. I try to pronounce things more accurately - doesn't help. I don't have an accent and never had problems of this type.

Turning sensitivity down does not help. The phone is flashed to the newest firmware.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/109)

I agree. Its terrible on the 8830 as well.

Hmmm. I find it work well, for me, on the 8310 and 8820.

I use mine all the time.

Voice dialing on my Pearl is perfect. Recognizes numbers and phone book names without problems. Try using it in a quiet area, it is harder to use when there is a lot of background noise. It works no problems with me while driving, but my car is pretty quiet on the inside.

Voice dialing on my 8100 works really well. Make sure you have first and last names for your contacts and maybe check that your Options/Language is set to English (United States), eh.

I have to chime in on the 8100 Pearl (T-Mobile version) to be pretty good. I found it to work much better than my previous Moto RIZR.

Those of you for whom it's not working well - is it using the phone by itself or through a Bluetooth headset? I have found that using a BT headset can sometimes screw it up.

Have you messed with the sensitivity settings for voice dialing on the Pearl?

I've found voice dialing through my cheapo bluetooth headset can be hit and miss but very accurate directly through the phone (8130 on Telus)

It works great on the 8130 Pearl from Bell

Works great on my 8100 with or without a BT headset in any location. This is the first phone I have had that worked so well with voice commands.

Actually it works so well my BB rarely leaves my jacket pocket during the day.

My 8130's is the best voice dialing I've ever had.

My Pearl2 has great voice dialing

althought its a little slow, but its the best I ever had
in fact I think it has one of the best in the market

Based on the anecdotal evidence it would seem to be an individual problem. Does the problem only show up on BT? Have you made sure the tiny hole for the mic it free of dust or debris? Any rattling sounds when you shake it?

I have an 8100 on AT&T and I think the voice dialing is one of the strongest aspects of the device. I have rarely had it not recognize the name of the person I was attempting to call.

Hmm... Interesting... I have this issue both with a BT headset and without. The inside of my car is fairly quiet - imho at least (it's a Lexus RX330).

The one contact my phone hates the most, is "Victor Lopez". I've tried spelling Lopez with an "s". That didn't help. It's the only contact to never be recognized by my phone.

I've tried tweaking my settings - nothing. Curiously enough, it does recognize numbers well, both with a headset and without.

Btw, the headset thing is another pet peeve I have about this phone. It works terribly with my Motorola T305 BT speaker and my Jabra BT8010 (which work great with my Nokia N80 and my wife's old LG Chocolate), but it works wonderfully with an old Bluespoon AX2. I've also tried my wife's Pearl with the T305 and it produces the same bad results, so I know it's not the headset, and not my particular phone.

i have to agree with some, my pearl has wicked voice dialing.

A quick afterthought - people mentioned quiet environments. I said my car environment is fairly quiet. But wait, why did all the phones I've used before (too many to count) worked much better, regardless of the environment?

i just hate the voice dialing, the fact that i use french name in my address doesnt help either.

I like my old samsung better, i could record my own voice for a contact.
