GPS on TyTN

Hey guys, quick question...

If I did a CID unlock and loaded up WM6, is there any possibility of getting GPS software to work on my TyTN without having to buy a GPS unit? Will the phone support the technology if it's only a matter of software?

I'm just wondering because I know that my phone was "not" supposed to have the video calling feature on it when I got it from Rogers, but it's now available (for a subscription fee) after unlocking it, thought GPS may have been the same, dunno...

Thanks.

The Tytn (Hermes, et al) does not have built in GPS hardware built in.

For GPS software to work, you'd need the hardware. You could buy a gps bluetooth puck bundled with gps software for a discount. With this combination, you would not need a data plan.

Or buy a gps puck, and use a free software (ie Windows Live Search) BUT you will need an unlimited data plan.

When I used the Tytn (8525), I used Semsons . Got TomTom 6 and the GlobalSat 359 for under $170. And a good site to go to first is GPSPassion.com. I think they offer a small discount at Semsons if you are a member of GPSPassion.

Okay, sounds good... But do I really need unlimited data? Does it leech data as fast as something like Google Maps would? I've got an 8 meg plan for 40 a month, and only use the net for email and facebook once in a while... I have yet to get my first bill to see how much data I actually use...

Speaking of data, is there software out there that'll track my data downloads?

Thanks...

Well, does Rogers let you check your Data usage online? It is very costly to go over...I'd be checking.

I consider myself a light Data user, I mainly use WiFi, and I've used 28mb in 2 weeks. I tried to check what my Data usage was for todays use of GPS/Windows Mobile Live, but the info isn't online yet.

I know there is a TeleNav program that is something like $10 for 10 trips a month...maybe that is something to consider too. Looks like they offer services that use Data, and some that don't.

I didn't think about checking with Rogers Online, good call...

I'll follow up on that, and if nothing's there, I'm definitely gonna be looking for software that counts it, it's gotta exist, cause I know it can get damn expensive if I go over...

Thanks again, have a good one.
