http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds...5e4fa2a22ea.htm

this clearly says, posted Feb 4th

"Among the company's new products, Coster said, will be a version of the Centro with phone service from AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. An exclusive deal with Sprint Nextel Corp. will expire soon, he wrote."

I wonder what the timeframe is for a possible Verizon Centro .... any guesses?

Posted by: sherryberry

what colors are they getting i wonder? I love my pink

Posted by: mromblad

judging from verizon's past, we should see the centro for verizon in 9-15 months.

well lookie here..

http://www.howardforums.com/showpos...7&postcount=770

look close in the lower left of that rebate form... what do you see?

Posted by: PDA

I originally left them because their data rates are outrageous and they didn't have any cool phones.

Well at least now they have cool phones.

Posted by: walkguru

good news for the verison users out there.

Posted by: etard

I read this same story today in 2 different places.. read here

but they both say this "Palm has released a Blue Palm Centro in Mexico to add to the existing pink, white and black Palm Centro’s found in the US on Verizon, Sprint and AT&T."

kind of interesting comment. maybe just a generic slip when they tossed in "Verizon'? maybe not?

I finally believe now - with the surfacing of that rebate form which I personally saw yesterday at my local Verizon store and can confirm the Centro is listed on the rebate form as the link I posted shows - Centro release for VZW is imminent. now it is just a matter of a photo finally surfacing with a Centro with a VZW logo on it just like happened with Sprint and ATT.

Posted by: PDA

I like my Onyx Centro, but I really like the Blue one that Mexico is getting. Maybe VZW will get it too.

I had emailed Verizon with a note saying that I was going to leave when my contract was up to get a Centro from another carrier. They actually CALLED me today and told me that they definitely will be carrying the Centro. However, they could not tell me the exact release date.

The interesting thing was that the customer service rep said that the email I would also receive from them would not have this info, but they wanted to reassure me that the Centro was coming and the only way they could do that was by speaking to me (or my voice mail, which is where they left this long message with this info.)

They must be bleeding customers to other carriers over this phone, given this response. No wonder they are going to go ahead and carry it.

Here is the link. From this morning (4/21).

Great news.

i wish they would get the centro in pink for verizon!

Posted by: BenjaminMT

I have to say that this is the first realistic phone to possibly, and I emphasize possibly, take the place of my e815. Tempted....

Posted by: PDA

eTard, that CNN link is broken. I think when a URL has the ... in the middle something is missing.

be rest assured, the URL is correct. The "..." is because this forum truncates the long url, but if you click it, it takes you to CNN.

Now, that being said, CNN simply moved the story. You could search CNN if you wish to read it, but at this stage, it matters not as that speculative story it was linked to has now become true - as seen with the new phone photos and rebate form - as it is old outdated news.

too bad the Centro dosent have wi-fi......

Posted by: etard

FWIW.. on another forum I follow this was posted by a new user

"I believe the June 1st date is probably correct. Here's why:

My wife and I were at the local Verizon company store this afternoon, looking at their selection of smartphones. While looking at the Treo 755p, the rep asked "Want to see the new Palm phone that's coming out?" He proceeded to bring out a "dummy" Centro with same color and markings as the Engadget pictures recently released. He said that when they receive the mock-ups, the phone is usually released a week or two later (they received it in this week)."

Posted by: miles4n4

One week to go? Lets hope its true that it will be available on June 1!

Posted by: miles4n4

I posted on the VZW pda forum that there's Centro Accessories now listed on VZW site. So the Centro should be coming soon!

Posted by: Damasterjj

lol all the carriers seems to be getting a palm centro

Posted by: Centro4Verizon

June 13th! Engadget is saying this Friday it will go on sale.

The past few weeks if you search VZW for "Centro" it lists tons of "Accessories for Centro" but without pictures. Then they all dissapeared for 2 days.

Today all accessories now have pictures (including pictures of the Centro wearing them)!

They must be getting ready to unveil very soon.

Posted by: etard

over on Treocentral a guy just posted up photos of the VZW Centro he got in the mail today.

Posted by: mas90guru

TreoCentral is reporting that at least one store has sold the Blue Verizon Centro. Worth noting that the Palm site is selling the AT&T and Sprint versions for $49 after rebate (which I believe is $50 less than what you can get in the stores).

Naturally all these rebates are going to require 2 years and I believe the addition of a data plan.

I got one!! last night.. I posted details over at Treocentral

Does this mean that if someone will dump their VZW rom we can upgrade Sprint phones off ebay and try and take advantage of the "open network".

Posted by: Hedy

Has anybody gotten the $29.99 data deal on this phone?

Posted by: koftheworld

I just bought this phone through the Verizon website and YES I was able to get the $29.99 data plan.

Posted by: otispester

koftheworld, I take it that this is for a new number (upgrading seems to require the $45 plan to take the extra $100 off)

Posted by: BB.Nospam

That still seems like a lot compared to the competition.

FWIW, I dumped Verizon last month (after 5+ years) and got the Centro through Sprint -- $30/month total on the SERO plan, with 500 minutes and unlimited data, and roaming on Verizon.

I was hesitant to go to Sprint, but so far I'm pleased.

yay verizon got the centro! too bad the data plan is so expensive.

Posted by: RAEnsbury

Got my Centro from Verizon yesterday and today i find out you can't do bluetooth voice dialing. is there a third party app that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and actually works?

No, it was for an upgrade. I was given the option for the $29 Internet and Email Data Plan for Smart Phones.

Posted by: jmorgans

I cannot get the $29.99 data plan to come up on their website. Is this plan only available through customer service?

Posted by: koftheworld

No, I was able to get it through the website. Make sure you don't have a datablock enabled. Call CS and ask them for the data plan that you want. That would be the easiest way.

Posted by: Tbeas12

I ordered mine last night and was able to get the $29.99 data plan

Posted by: Centro4Verizon

I went to the store yesterday hoping to get the $29.99 data plan for my Treo 700p. They told me NO! (emphasis not exaggerated)

It is only available for the Centro and it doesn't matter if it is a new line or an upgrade it still just costs $29.99.

And no, this data plan is not published anywhere. They didn't even have paperwork about it at the store.

It comes up for me, even if I am upgrading from a phone on a line that I have to pay full retail on.

Posted by: maslan

bought wife Centro the other night (She loves it). She has always carried a Palm and a Phone. Bought it strictly for that - no data/email. There is a "pay as you go" data plan that costs nothing - unless you use it. that is what she chose. so she will have no additional cost - unless she chooses to do a download or such. she will never do email on it.

FYI - i have spoken to many people who have email on phones and ended up turning that off as there are no spam filters for phones. Also have 2 friends with IPHONES - they also turned off email for same reason.

Posted by: ScruffyGuy

What is the difference between a smartphone and a blackberry? sorry for sounding stupid but I have always used "a regular" phone and I was thinking about buying the Centro, but wasn't sure if I wanted to go with a smart phone or a blackberry. I was wondering what is the advangage of the smart phone over the Blackberry and what would the advantages be of having a smart phone vs a regular phone.

Thanks!!

I use the palm email client with gmail, works very well.

I've had my Centro for almost a month, and I really love it. I have been a Palm user for 5 years, and really wanted a device that would combine phone and Palm to save me from having to carry both around, but was still small. This device really works for me.

As to Blackberry vs Centro: Blackberry and Centro do many of the same things. I was thinking about getting one of the Blackberries, but three things made the Centro my first choice, and I am really happy that I got it because of them.
First of all, the Centro has a touch screen. Once you have used a device with a touch screen you never want to go back to one without it.
Second, Palm has some terrific software apps that let you use it with your Office documents. Blackberry has ways to edit documents, but the DataViz Documents to Go is just head and shoulders above anything BB has for that purpose. Also, there is just a ton of software out there which lets your Palm grow as you need it to fit your needs.
Third, the Palm is just enough smaller than the Blackberries that it really fits my needs better.

I also use the Palm to check my email when I am out of computer range, and look up things on the internet when I am not near a computer but need to reference something. (I have it set up to automatically check my email, but you can set it to only check it manually if you want, to reduce the amount that ends up in your phone mailbox.) I purchased an IM program for it that allows me to IM on the fly, and I also purchased a program that allows me to enter text on screen and have it translated to type (this is something that comes with the non-phone Palms and I like to have it.) I also have some games that I got for my non-phone Palm that work in the Centro too.

This phone really is a great device.

As to drawbacks...The keyboard is smaller than the Blackberry's and it takes some getting used to, and I would like a better Web browser (although I have hope that the Opera Mini will someday be adaptable to it.) Other than that, no complaints.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply. I may give it a shot and see how it goes. I may just like it better than a Blackberry (and not to mention I won't get addicted, lol)
