Strong 3G finally in my house!

We've had 3G here in Katy/Houston for a while, but for some reason, my house was in a very low signal area. You could walk next door in either direction and have full bars, but it would fluctuate from 0-2 bars in my room, so I lock all my 3G phones to 2G mode. Well tonight I kept dropping calls on 2G, so I thought I would switch to 3G to see if it would work, and I am pulling a full 4 bars on my Q9h everywhere in my house. No fluctuation at all! Way to go AT&T!

Wirelessly posted (SAMSUNG-SGH-A707/1.0 SHP/VPP/R5 NetFront/3.3 SMM-MMS/1.2.0 profile/MIDP-2.0 configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.1.17.0)

at&t has a real long way to go with their 3G network. Your case is an exception.

That sounds like an 850Mhz channel was turned on.

::sighs::

Maybe one day... Lol. I'm actually charging my BJ II up to verify if the 3g internal maps are correct in my job... All of bergen is pretty much blanketed.

Edit: They must have done a lot of switch flipping this week! 3g is live in Lodi!

I can tell... In my boy's basement, no 3g, just edge.

The M-K-T (Missouri-Kansas-Texas) Railway, affectionately known as the "Katy", merged with Union Pacifc in the 1980's.

Okay, so that's not strictly on topic, but when you said Katy I thought of that Congrats on getting the 3G by the way! We have some here in my area, but only in Ukiah (8 miles south of me), AT&T Affiliate Edge Wireless (AT&T is buying out the 60% they don't own, deal is set to be complete by the end of May, will merge Edge into AT&T) is the GSM carrier here.

Well I'm glad East Texas is coming along just fine. I can't remember when anything west of I-35 here has been turned on. Maybe AT&T forgot about this part of Texas or they're looking at a circa 1836 Texas map when planning the 3G network. This must be part of Mexico still, or better yet New Spain.

I'm starting to notice 3G pop up once in awhile in my house. Maybe their finally setting up 3G on the tower that serves my house.

You still using EDGE? I thought you were using 3G.

They need to make sure enough people have 3G phones before turning on 850 because of bandwidth constrains. Otherwise, if they turn off GSM/EDGE channels on 850 to open room for WCDMA, then people can face busy signals due to not enough GSM channels. But if there are 3G phones, they'll automatically start using 3G and take enough load off the GSM/EDGE channels and avoid overload problems during the switchover.

It still remains to be seen how a well loaded UMTS network will perform in the real world when all kinds of 3G phones jump onto the same channel to exchange voice and data at the same time. I guess the moment of truth is coming.

I hope it's not a bumpy ride for us 2G users. I am already getting unexpected dropped calls here and there in areas with full signal.

I used to get no 3G bars at my house, not even going outside.

I now get 3 bars of 3G in my house, and 4 outside!

Makes me happy.
