Anyone have the list of 80 sites

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Today AT&T put out a press release stating that 80 sites would be going live with 3G in 2008. This apparently is ahead of the rollout of a high speed iPhone anticipated in late 2008.

Have you seen such a list? If so, could you post it here?

"80 Cities, 1500 additional cell sites, to deliver 3G to the leading 350 cities be years end."

i was hoping for the list of cities too, that link only says they are expanding, it doesn't list the cities

Does anyone know if one of those cities would be Fargo, ND? I keep hearing AT&T commercials on the local radio stations, and we don't have AT&T wireless service.

I'd be happy with the list of "top 100 U.S. cities" that ATT is using...

Something tells me their list is much different that any lists we find on the net (population/radio/tv markets). Just look at the list of citiees with 3G and tell me how some of them are even in the top 350.

DOes anyone know why Fargo, ND only offers "shared"coverage? I look on the maps from AT&T website and Bismarck and Dickinson are said to have good coverage. Fargo is the largest Market in ND. What is going on?

no offense to North Dakota but there are a number of more densely populated markets that don't have 3G yet. AT&T's goal is to make it seem like they cover the most people while spending the least amount of money (ex. major cities)

as for 2G coverage - I don't know in all honesty

Chances are the advertising you are hearing, is from a national campaign, which may have a contract with a large media company whoch owns several radio stations, and they just run them everywhere.

AT&T does not show to own any licenses for wireless coverage in Fargo. They do have coverage in Minnesota, that goes up toward that area, and covers Wahpeton, and that may be in the Fargo radio stations serving area.

Hopefully for us all 80 cities will be in the Greater Los Angeles, CA area.

Seriously, they could put up only two 3G cell sites in any given city and say they offer 3G service there.

I can't believe large chunks of South OC are still EDGE only areas. I was just there this weekend. What's the hold up? Not enough equipment from the vendors? Not enough air spectrum? Or is a broad expansion just not in the current budget?

Sprint and Verizon have this whole market completely blanked with EVDO REV A now. I would think that from a competitive stance, AT&T would at least concentrate on areas where their competition have the leg up and expand from there.

Hmm... Santa Clarita (adjacent to Los Angeles city limits) has all of its sites on 3G. Stevenson's Ranch is missing its 2 (micro cells - GSM 850 only), and Castaic does not yet show up as 3G (although it may have it).

What a surprise... a 3G thread turns into a SoCal pity party... j/k

I guess it would be better if we looked at it from the perspective that they are ONLY doing 80 cities.. sounds kinda weak, really.

We have 3G in Ukiah (Mendocino County, Northwestern California, I'm located in Redwood Valley, about 8 miles north), via AT&T's Affiliate (who as you may have heard was bought out by AT&T in December, will be merged into them this year), Edge Wireless, though it's only in Ukiah, get a few miles outside of town and it drops back to EDGE. Other than that, they have 3G live in Roseburg, OR, Pocatello, ID and Idaho Falls, ID. I guess it's better than Verizon and USCC, they still haven't turned on their EVDO in our area, and I have no idea what Metro PCS's 3G plans are.

Let's not forget that when AT&T says they will have 3G in a city, doesn't mean they'll cover the entire city. They just cover a few streets and announce that they have 3G in X city just to give the impression that the whole city is covered.

Thats correct. San Antonio and Austin Texas are like that. The coverage is not everywhere and I've switched phones to check if it was that but its not. I hope they expand because if this is as good as their "3G" is getting here then its a pathetic effort. I know its not easy and they haven't been at it for a long time with this but Sprint and Verizon cover the whole area and even the rural parts with EVDO so you'd think AT&T would do more.
