The seller suggested trying a cheaper sim hack (like the made-in-China ones) to see if they will work.....not sure if they will though. Some one is selling the pss on ebay and he seems adamant that the pss will work for the 705Px in HK and that he has the people (in HK) to prove it. Sounds fine and all, but what if the problem is with my sim? I tried calling Smartone's customer services and asked discreetly if my sim was GSM or a 3G sim. The rep just told me, "not to worry because either would work fine". As I was currently on a 3G plan, he told me that my sim was "pretty much a 3G sim". I kinda got the feeling that he didn't quite get my question. Does that mean I have a 3G sim or some other sim that acts like one? ....bleh.... EDIT: okay, it seems that the problem lies with my sim. I always get that annoying "INVALID USIM" message whenever I try using the phone. I explained my situation to the pss seller and he reckons that my Smartone sim is not a USIM, hence the phone won't recognize the sim no matter what sim hack is used. aw614, did you use a USIM for your 705P? I should probably just go ahead and ask the smartone rep if I have a USIM or not......... ![]() |

Well, I asked if Smartone had any and the sales rep told me that since all normal SIM cards were compatible with 3G, they didn't sell them. Unless, the customer was a frequent traveller (like on business, to China, Singapore, Taiwan) and needed a sim card with more memory. For an additional HK$38/month for one year, I can change my sim to a USIM and enjoy a flat rate of HK$3.80/minute calling from any of the above countries (which I didn'tcare for, I just wanted a USIM to use in my 705px). As soon as I got back home, I tried it and my 705px works like a charm. I am so happy.....I might go crazy...... My next project will probably be to see if I can get my P900iv to work as well, once it arrives. |

It only excepts the sim and sim hack combo that intially made contact with rogers. Can somebody else try and verify..

In Europe, we do have USIM on most of the networks, in the UK, all networks are using USIM now. In HK, 3HK is the only networks using USIM at the moment, as I know. In north America, like Canada & USA, they had CDMA2000, which is the different mode from WCDMA, even we all have GSM, but the sim in the US & Canada just can not be used in 705px, for guys who using a UK sim to travel to the US, 705px can work under GSM mode. There is no matter of what kind of hypersim you are using, it all gonna be the same. I wish it makes better to understand. ^_^ |

tried using ismartsim2008 (ismartphone2008) on fido SM32 (doesnt work) and rogers 3040 (doesnt work). tomorrow I will try rogers 4000 and uo.2 or whatever the newest are. I will also try PSS sim on sm32 and 3040 with 705px. If they don't work I need to find one that does. My theory is that the 3040 and sm32 are 2g sim cards, not 3g usims. To my knowledge a USIM is just a 3G sim card. |
