I am considering gettings an LG enV phone from Verizon and would like to know where I can find info on third party software and/or phone patches to give me the ability to load music, video and pictures from my PC to the enV.
Two years ago I got a Motorola e815 phone and got some great info from Howard forums re how to modify file on phone to allow me to do this.
Any help will be appreciated. Many thanks.

It's a simple matter and there's only one download you'll need.
www.bitpim.org
register your phone and the help files will show you how to download whatever you need on your new enV.

You can also simply use a memory card to store music/videos/etc. on and use the on the phone.

Thanks for your reply. Do I need that Music Essentials Kit from Verizon that includes the USB cable, headset and software ? Don't know what software is on that CD.

To use a memory card you don't need anything at all (except I guess a card reader). If you want to connect the phone to the computer you mainly need the USB cable for that (from the Music Essentials Kit or other places) and the drivers (which are basically on the CD, or can be obtained from a place like http://www.vzam.net/vcastmusic/Step2.aspx?maker=LG).

If you use Vista on your computer you just need a cheap cable for about $2 from somewhere like Amazon or eBay and Vista will automatically download the drivers to your computer from the internet.
If you have XP you will need the VZW music kit or you can download the drivers like Comrade DM said.

Comrade DM and Silent Zoom - Thanks so much for all the info you have given me. This sounds so much easier than what I had to do with my Motorola E815 - modify a seem file, upload it to the phone and then use Motorola Phone Tools software to transfer data between phone and PC.
One thing I did with the E815 was load some music clips to the phone and used them as special ringtones used when certain people called - like my wife and kids and friends. I assume I'll be able to do the same with my enV - hope I'm right.

Yeah it's fairly simple to upload ringtones and the enV using bitpim. Just go into media>ringers and on the row of buttons on top click the one that says add new ringer when you hover your mouse over it. Bitpim will give you options to change quality, etc. And will also let you choose how long you want the ringtone to be. A great option also is the decibel level so that you can change how loud the ringtones are automatically because a common problem with the enV is that they can be excessively loud. If you're having issues with this just set it to -20 or thereabouts until you get the sound level you want.
To set specific ringtones for specific people you must go into edit contacts.
*The ringtones when imported into bitpim must be in .mp3 format. If you have iTunes, it can convert them for you in seconds. Just go into Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Importing(tab), and select import as mp3 files. Then right click the song you want to convert and select convert to .mp3.
You can then find the song when you select add ringer on bitpim in the Your Music>iTunes File.

Or if your computer has bluetooth you can connect via bluetooth with bitpim just have the computer setup to use the DIAG port for the bluetooth

Thanks Ludacrisvp, but I don't have bluetooth on my PC. Maybe on my next toy ....

I also had the e815 and switched to the env.. I never wanted to risk the mods of the seem on the 815.
Can you upload an entire mp3 file as a ringer or do you have to edit it to cut it down?

It's possible to load an entire mp3 as a ringtone, but usually it's not practical. The phone isn't going to ring for 2-3 minutes for your entire song to play, so all you'll ever hear is the first 30 seconds or so. If that's what you want to do, that's fine I guess, except that there is a limit to how much space the phone will allocate for ringtones. The smaller the better, usually. There is free software available that can cut down your mp3s quickly and effectively, such as Audacity or Wavepad.

Hay thanks for all your help. I am using bluetooth and can upload and download ringtones etc. However is there any way to download and upload my phone book to my pc? It is much easier to type on this phone but it would be nice.

BitPM allows you to download and edit and upload your phonebook.

Is there a special trick? I am using bitpim now and can upload and download ringers and music and pictures, calenda but the phone book will not download from the phone.
thanks

I did not do anything special. I just selected the phonebook and it worked no problems.
