Recommend a phone with the best reception

I am fed up with my phone at work. I am currently using the Samsung BlackJack. This phone is ****ing terrible at work. Constant dropped calls no service ect. My co worker has a Verizon phone and has no problems. I work in a large building so I need something with some balls for an antenna. I would like the phone or pda to have AOL Instant Messenger capabilities and possibly internet. The internet is not a must though AIM will suffice if need be.

Thanks in advance.

Motorola's tend to have the best RF with ATT.

If you want a regular flip phone, go with the Motorola V3xx

If you want a PDA smartphone, go with the Motorola Q Global. (that phone is simply a monster in terms of reception). It has the best RF of ANY phone hands down. I am sure other's with the Motorola Q Global will second me on that matter.

I heard the Sony Ericcson W580 also has tremendous RF but I've never personally have use that phone. I've had Sony's s710a in the past and was impressed with the RF in that phone.

Most Nokia GSM phones all also known for their RF signals, although the N95 may be a little too pricey for most people. The other Nokia's N75 and 6126 work well also.

I do not trust samsung phone's RF at all. I think they are second rate. I have tried the Samsung Synch and BJ 1 and those phone's reception in fringe areas were very poor.

Motorola Q9h (Q Global). Great phone. Best reception of any device I've ever had. Has AIM, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo! IM on the device.

This should be posted in the regular phone section, not the main forum.

You know that the OZ messenger that comes with most at&t phones uses sms messages to IM people and if you uninstall it while you are logged on it send s you status text messages until you log on the computer of off the OZ messenger.

I have worked in wireless for a long time, Nokia hands down has the best reception. Motorolas have been good for me too, but in a spotty coverage area, a Nokia will pick up where others won't. I like the 6126 and the 6555 in the current lineup. If you want a smart phone type, the n75 but the battery life kind of stinks on it.

This thread is going to be removed, butthe blackjack isn't a bad phone, but some of the early ones have been recalled; check with att and see if they will replace it; something about the antenna coming loose. Do a google search for this info.

As for your basic question, I am not aware there is a lot of difference iany att handset now, as they are all tower location/signal dependant. ie, if you are in a poor signal area, non of them will work and vice versa. I have numerous handsets, including 2 blackjacks which are not really any worse or better than the motos which I prefer for other reasons. Just get att to replace it. Here is the phone # to call 1-800-801-1101 for warranty replacement.

(To the OP) what makes you so certain that it's the phone and not the service? Just because a VZW phone works that doesn't guarantee that an AT&T phone, even one with better reception, will. You need to make sure that other people with AT&T (and a different phone) actually get good/better reception there.

Blackberry no question

Good points, and vzw usually works better inside a steel bldg too.

that is anecdotal evidence, not fact. if it does, its because verizon has a closer tower to that building, or if all else is equal, at&t is running on 1900mhz in that area.

Ill second any blackberry since the 87xx series. By far and away the best, compared to nokia S60 phones i have owned and motos.

Reception depends on far too many factors for you to make such a blanket statement.

Just wanted to mention that I've been using a blackjack II for about 6 months now and it has been very good with reception so far. I live in the NYC area. On the other hand, I had much worse time with the Moto V3; I've had 2 separate ones and they both were bad with one being replaced by a warranty. They were shutting down with no reason and generally were defective. Also, Blackjack has much clearer voice on par with Nokia phones, I think. The moto phones have more muddy voice (too much base) and sometimes, I can't understand what the people are saying when using the V3. For me, one of the most important issue is with the voice clarity. I think Motos have too much base in their earphone frequency. I can't tell the enunciation. I tried the Moto V3xx at ATT shop before picking up the Blackjack. I thought that one also had much bassier voice. I didn't like it. Blackjack is not perfect, though. I think BB is much better with emails. Plus, blackberry has longer battery life. I will probably get a blackberry later.

Its definitely comparable but results may vary. Not all Z9's reception are created equal. Some are "V9 perfect", and some are lessser.
