Skyfire Browser 0.5 Private Beta Released

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just got this about 1/2 hour ago. First I got an email saying I will get a text message with a link for the download. Around 2 hours later I got the text message that sent me to a registration page which in turn sent me to a link to the download.

All in all it's pretty damn impressive. Very similar to the IPhone's browser. Everything looks as it should look just the same as on your computer fitting in the small phone screen and zoomed out as well. It's very quick with everything including page loading, zooming, etc but with one exception, videos and flash. Sound seems to do ok but flash and vids are quite choppy. Maybe it has something to do with my BJII's processor though and of course it's a very early beta so I would not expect everything to be all it can be at this point.

Edit: I forgot the link for info and sign-up if anyone is interested: http://www.skyfire.com/

I hope this site works. I downloaded the trial of OperaMobile and its not working like it should. Its still not showing FLASH. It's a bit heartbreaking. Hope I get my email soon I signed up awhile back to get in the beta testing.

dude ive been trying to get this download for like the longest time and they have never sent me anything i did this couple weeks ago

I just signed up and it says they are at full capacity right now and will let me know when it becomes available. I can't wait to try it out. Pocket IE is horrible, Opera Mobile is horrible and Opera Mini is just ok. I can't wait to find a better browser. I use to have the Thunderhawk browser on a Pocket PC, but it costs $5.95 a month and half the time it would lock up and not work at all, so I'm not trying that again.

I'm pretty excited about this as well. I signed up a few weeks ago so hopefully I will get to try it out soon.

They are beta testing the software. It doesn't mean everyone who signed up will be invited to beta test the software. Some will be the lucky ones others will have to wait until the software is released for general use.

I got my notification email and SMS with download link today. The browser seems pretty snappy for a mobile browser and it's cool to play flash video right in the browser. The youtube video I played seemed pretty decent, not too much choppiness in the audio or video. I'll play with it more later on but first impression is pretty good.

It absolutley drained my battery.

It looked nice though. Makes me wish I had a larger screen.

So far it's OK - I guess we'll see how the full version is.

Does skyfire allow you to copy and paste in the browser? When using OM4, I can't do this and I can't highlight text on any of the webpages either like I can on IE. It's been very useful for me and hope skyfire works just like IE in that sense.

PS I have a better idea...why doesn't Internet Explorer just make their browser like the PC's? Why does it take Opera Mini and Skyfire to do this?

Their supposed to be, that's what the deepfish program was for. I'm using opera 9.5 beta right now as well as netfront.

Got version 0.6 a few days ago also use opera mobile and mini and honestly prefer either one over skyfire and still find myself even using PIE more than skyfire. Its ok for free would not pay over 0.02 for it just my thoughts.

Dude...skyfire is awesome!!!!

I tried skyfire...but the everything is too small for me to read..and no way to change it....

For some reason I get no sound when I try to play clips from youtube, or other streams. I was very disappointed when I tried it. I went right back to Opera and am using ytmobile to get youtube in full screen (instead of postage stamp size on ATT youtube). I hope they get more bugs out of skyfire and really deliver on their promise.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.50 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.1.10781/308; U; en))

i find myself using opera mini more than skyfire...the only time i use skyfire on my bj2 is when i want to show my friends porn video clips lol..it works awesome!
