Thinking of TyTN II / Tilt

Hey all, I have a few questions about the TyTNII / Tilt. I appreciate and welcome you comments.

This phone seems to have all we want in a portable device. GPS, WiFi, Internet, Mobile 6, removable memory, user replaceable battery. Anyway, I have a few questions regarding it before I pull the trigger and buy one. I am primarily in the US and so my monthly bill must come from a US carrier.

First off, I hate contracts, so I want to buy the phone out right. Why do I see the HTC phones listed as around $750 while ATT lists the Tilt at a $550 retail price? Is there any benefit to buying the HTC branded phone? I have read that HTC does not support the phone in the US, does this mean I need to get the Tilt for proper support?

If I buy the Tilt outright from ATT, they should unlock in immediately, right?

I would like to use TMobile as their data plan looks more fit to what I would use (very, very little talking; data heavy). Does this phone fully work on the TMobile US and Europe networks? I have read some old posts and articles that Tmob is not full 3G in the US and that they are using a different spectrum, but I thought this was a quad band phone.

Are there any other suggestions on competitive phones or anything else you can think of?

Thanks in advance!

htc branded phone has front facing camera and no att software
att branded tilt has no front facing camera and att software (that can be removed very easily)

no need for supposrt with the forums around (howardforums and xda)

ATT will unlock if it was bought off them. call customer service for the unlock code.

phone will work in europe for sure (quadband) but 3g networks are different bands overseas and even in canada
