Switching from 8310 to iPhone & Back.

Right now, I am using my BB 8310 with the BIS package. I am thinking of activating an iPhone over this line, replacing my BIS data with the iPhone data.

I know that I will no longer get push email, however, I understand that most 3rd party BB apps will still work with the MediaMax/iPhone data packages.

If you have had experience using the iPhone/Mediamax packages with any of the below applications, I would appreciate your feedback as to whether or not they worked. Also, did you need to change any settings?

Google Maps
Yahoo Go 3.0
MS Live Search
Blackberry Maps
Handmark Express
Gmail
Viigo
Opera Mini
Telenav
RealDice Games

I have seen reports of Opera Mini and Yahoo Go 2.0 working, but any additional experience with any of those apps running with Media packages instead of a BB data package would be very helpful.

Thanks!

isnt iphone data just a normal medianet package? im sure u'll be able to use both the bb and the iphone with ur BIS plan with no problems or limitations. u wont be able to do so with a normal data plan. im guessing u need to get a normal data plan in order to activate the iphone?

Yes. the iPhone data is pretty much the same as a normal Media package with the addition of Visual Voicemail.

However, when I activate my iPhone, it is going to overwrite my BIS data package with an iPhone data package.

At a later date I could go back and tell ATT I returned the iPhone and to switch me back to the BIS package, but I was just curious as to what would and would not work on the Blackberry with the iPhone data package.

Thanks.

I recently switched from an iPhone to the Curve and I'll share my experience with you, as it's been pretty good for the most part.

First off, I had the unlimited data plan with the iPhone, which of course, is every plan with the iPhone, and just took my SimCard and put it in my new BB Curve. Everything worked right away, including:
-Media Net
-Opera Browser
-Gmail App
-Google Maps
-Ramble IM

The biggest annoyance is the notifications due to Visual Voicemail. If you keep the iPhone plan, the BB doesn't know how to read Visual Voicemail, so when someone leaves you a voicemail, you get a text message. Once you listen to and delete the voicemail, you get another text. It's pretty annoying, and you'll probably end up going back to your BB plan.

Now, neither my MediaNet or my Gmail App works, so I'm planning on calling customer service tomorrow. But it's worked perfectly fine for a month, so I"m not sure what the problem is.

Hope this helped some.

Thanks for the info.

My wife has an iPhone so I pulled the SIM out and put it in to my 8310 and came out with similar results. The Gmail app does not work, likewise with HandMark Express, but everything else seems to work fine, including the Blackberry Maps application, Yahoo to Go, MS Live Search, etc.

I was hoping Gmail would work, but if not, I guess we can always use Opera Mini to pull up the mail.

Yeah, that's strange though, b/c my G-mail App worked at first. I'm calling Customer service today, a little hesitant, as they're probably going to put me on a BB plan. I guess that's fine, but would've been nice if I could've kept the cheaper iphone plan.

If you switch to the Blackberry BIS Unlimited ($29) plan, using the same SIM card- you can switch back and forth from the Curve to the iPhone. Everything except visual voicemail on the iPhone will work. You also have to change the voicemail local access number on the Curve and have AT&T reset voicemail- but just use the same SIM and when it goes back in the iPhone- it will still work without a "new" activation. I've been doing this for months, using the iPhone on weekends.

So, I am using an iPhone right now. Could I get a BB Curve (or Pearl) and use my unlimited data for the iPhone with opera mini when I need to check something on the BB?

Yeah, you'll be able to use the web browsing, just no push e-mail or bb messenger.

Would this be the preferred method of using a BB without the hefty BB plans? I am thinking of getting the BB Curve for more functionality and so I can get access to my work email. Should I just get the unlimited plan with t'ing? Is it worth the price with AT&T?

Thanks!

I just order the curve and plan on using unlimited media net for $15 to use with jivetalk and view some wap sites while bored at work. I can't afford $30 for BIS on top of my $30 unlimited family text.
