So I went to plug my touch into my computer and didn't think about it and plugged the Motorola standard usb end into my touch and ... it works fine!

Every mini-usb charger that I have used has worked on my Tytn.

Since its designed not to fit will it wear it out in the long run... I had no clue I didn't have to use the adapter to charge it... I lost one and bought another off of ebay for like 25 bucks

The difference is the Moto charger is less powered so it will take longer to charge and may not have enough to start charging a dead battery.

no miniUSB is a standardized plug. all miniUSBs will fit with each other.

but like Jwy said, it might not be as powerful.

For some of us, it's black since it's night.

Yep, and all my other HTC devices. BB chargers work also. If the mini usb fits.....

^exactly.. the moto charger is only 500mAh where the HTC charger is 1amp meaning the moto charger will take twice as long to charge it.
But all the mini usb's are the same physical size.

Lower amperage will kill your battery over time.

Uh, no. Higher amperage kills the battery faster because charging the battery faster generates more heat, accelerating the breakdown of the chemicals in the battery.

ahh, NO..... where did u learn ur electronics from..??

At highest amperage input off of USB standard, is far below -C rate of ANY li-Ion.

So why is the end different inside the htc.. and why do you get 2 adaptors when you buy the phone?

Posted by: Ktreece777

You guys are taking that wrong... I understand a motorola charger will charge it fine! I didn't know though that you didn't have to use the supplied adaptors to plug the charger to the phone... The actual miniusb end will plug directly into the phone... and my question is... since it actually isn't a complete snug fit... will it hurt the phone in the long run

Posted by: WarRaven

Nope,it will not accelerate wear, just slightly different shape to accomadate the include 2-way plug that allows you to charge your HTC and listen to music or use headphones to accept calls.

Peace

It is a different size so that it can carry the audio to a headset or to the supplied splitter. The mini-USB cable that it comes with (at least mine) is the same size as all other mini-USB cables.

Bingo!

Motorola headset accessories don't work with the Touch. I found that out the hard way. On a related note, anyone want a mini-USB to 3.5mm stereo plug adapter?

Why shouldn't it? Same voltage, same plug = one charger for at home, one for the car, for all of my devices. And about time too, it was getting freaking irritating with all those different "standards"

I previously confirmed all the mini usb chargers I used work with the Touch too (as expected), but I got some weird advice from a Best Buy rep (didn't ask for it, lol). He said they all are interchangeable EXCEPT Moto Razr chargers- too much or too little juice, I can't remember. He seemed confident. I HAVE NOT VERIFIED THIS!

I know that a Razr car charger won't charge when the battery is below 20%.

My wife has the Razr and the v3xx and both chargers are rated at 5V at .5amps and both charge my tilt. They charge slow but they charge even at low 5%. My tilt's charger is rated at 5V at 1amp which explains why the other 2 charge so low.. 1/2 the amperage.
My V365 charger also charges the tilt.

I've recently started doing the same - turning the mini USB upside down fits my HTC / Tmo Shadow just fine. Is there any known damage? I've seen some yes/nos throughout this thread.

Any know the good word?

~Cheers & Thanks

As long as you don't forcefully jab the plug in, you'll be fine. I've been doing it for years and none of my HTC devices ever got damaged there, not even loose.

Gotcha -

I likely missed this, but what is the reason behind the big HTC adapters then if the a standard USB fits? - aside from the obvious 'plug more things in at once'.

It's a modified Mini-USB that adds pins for things like audio and a mic. Their reason for it is to save space from separate ports. The shape is probably to signify that you need special plugs for some things like audio where the Motorola headphones won't work.
